    Looks like this motor will be a real runner. Super compression for a 1971. In the last video you changed the kill switch on the BEEF motor and took the parts from the BEAST. What's up with the BEAST? I was looking forward to you getting that one back in service again. As always, I truly enjoy your channel. I always look to see if there's a new vid from This Old Outboard when I sign into TH-cam. Thanks again for all you do.

    If you have any notions about making that 1971 20 into a 25, then you're headed for trouble - or a lot of work.
    While the motors look alike and have the same cubic inches (22), the 18 and 20 use the same crankshaft (#315286). But the 25 uses a better counter-balanced crankshaft (#383182). This is so the 25hp motor will hold up under higher rpms - up to 1000rpms more than the 18/20. But, I know you're going to do whatever you want to do......... Thanks for the video.     That's the carb that I been telling you about look at the part number on the side look in the throat it doesn't have that thin brass bar . That's what i put on my boat made it go 48 mph them reeds are different to small . that carb needs to be on your boat more gas more power just try it you will be impressed. 15 pitch prop of course keep your stock reeds

      Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Those aren't part numbers. This is a 20-25 hp carb not 35, 35's weren't around in 1971. They're very common carbs, I have a few. That "brass rod" is not a rod its a fuel passage for idle/slow/medium speeds until the high speed "emulsion tube" kicks in. You originally said that "type" of carb is a true 35 and the others were 25's, and I said show me. Hahaha! The 35's didn't come around until 76, but the 40 horses had been around the whole time. The 35's in 76 were using a high speed jet size 59d, while the 25's of that era were were all 72d and 67d for the 20 hp's. It really doesn't have anything to do with the brass "rod", they just redesigned the carbs and with a port, feeding the low speed side and eliminated the small brass tube. But the high speed brass tube is still there coming up from the bowl. Keep reading next comment!

    I wish you would of polished the points first and ran it would of started right up then do your cleaning,LOL! I wanted to hear it come back to life.Oh by the way 25S had there own cylinder heads with 72D jets as being the difference... That motor will run sweet had the same one given to me in the 1990S by a friend lost it in the bay got it back three days later I think I told you the story...... later

      @@THISOLDOUTBOARD1A 1971 25 HP cylinder head had a thinner thickness for higher compression its a diffferent P/N than the 18 and 20S. While that motor has 140 lbs that is really high. In 1972 they came out with pressure back rings which would seal with the engines compression as you may know. Anyhoo nice motor those 22 cubic inch blocks were the best OMC produced lightweight and simple...

    They used that carb on 60 70 hp envrude 1970 1979 middle carb 3 cylinder now you have one 🙋

      Yes these carbs were used all over the place, but you have to keep on a three cylinder outboard, that one carb is only feeding one cylinder, whereas that one carb has to feed two cylinders on a smaller outboard, thats where jet size comes into play!

      @@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 yes that carb body is the one I used with the same main jet size I never changed it my parts motor was the same as that points motor you have. The only only thing was defendant was the reeds were small holes 20 hp parts motor . My motor is the same as you got on your boat cdi primer motor had bigger reed holes for more gas to inter. The points motor had like 3leaf clover pedal holes makes it 20 hp . Did that help out any what I text 🙋

    Just picked up a 1971 25hp and a 1978 25hp got the pair for 75$ got both going with only a few hours of work. I am looking at redoing a 1984 Smokercraft pro angler 16 center console before I head off to college I was wondering how much resin and plywood it took you to do the entire 16ft StarCraft you have.

      Hey. Sounds good! I believe it was 3 4x8 sheets. And if your gonna use resin I would recommend you use the cloth too. The reason I didn't was because it wasn't in my budget. Most people use a good oil based exterior house paint, about 5-8 coats. The resin is too brittle and easily can crack/chip just bumping into something. And water is like luv, it will find a way! The floor has held up pretty good considering its in the elements 24/7 but it did get a few leaks and needed repaired. Don't know if you saw those vids. Thanks for tuning in!

      What you should do is lookup your parts motor on marineengine.com and see what size high speed jet that carb has.

    A hand impact driver would do you good for screws like on the thrust plate. China-freight has em and they are cheap, but they work well.
    Hate to see you work harder than you should with the hammer and screw driver. Besides it being harder on you, it's bad on the screw slots, and that's bad on the driver.

      Hey. Hahaha! Seriously? Work harder? I know you mean well but not my first rodeo here. Very common practice to tap them loose, then tap them back down on installation as seen ih the next episode. If you beat on it which is totally unnecessary with an impact driver you may end up warping the brass armature plate support and thats a no-no! It's no fun trying straighten one of those out.       I'm not kidding!! It just takes a light tap, and they come right out. But hey, if it works for you, super!!
      That plate rests on bosses, and it takes a harder blow to bend that stuff than you think. I I haven't bent 1 yet.
      Great videos brother, you are entertaining to watch, and I watch re-runs of your old videos where you are almost swearing like a sailor on my bad days just to pick me up for a laugh.
