My orchestra is playing this song for Festival this year, and we're dedicating it to the middle school's conductor who is actually Egyptian. And not just of Egyptian descent. He was born in Egypt.
Soon He Newbold is great at really showcasing insturments that usually don't get heard like the viola and cello and bass. But them at the same time, brings the violin part to a whole new level. Love this composer!!
Betty Oster maybe you did, but there’s a whole lot of pieces that have the same style as this, and they can be mixed up easily if you haven’t heard them for a while :P
Yes, I know that now. I didn't when I posted this comment. I guess I saw an unfamiliar name and, in a fit of prejudice, assumed it was the name of a man. That's probably both racist and sexist, so yikes.
I don't mind being a violist, it's not like our parts are that bad. Our director tends to choose pieces that highlight violas, which is odd seeing as we have three, one who knows how to play and yet does nothing, and two (me being one of those) who are beginners, so basically we have to put our all into those parts. I suppose it's good encouragement, but there are actually tons of pieces that give violas a highlight, or at least a very similar part to the cellos, which I love having. The only thing that bothers me is when people see my case that is just a little less than twice the size of a violin case and call my instrument a violin.
its good that u have the melody and u r lucky to ahve it as a viola, i one my self love the melody along with others but dont u find it boring just playing quarter notes all the time? and btw u should always put ur all into it :)))
Andy Lam Well I suppose, though a lot of our parts aren't quarter notes. In fact, our last three that we played in concert had viola solos. That, and I'm also used to rhythm otherwise because I play a lot of rhythm guitar and bass, so quarter notes aren't new to me. I do find it hard to read the music in songs like Shepherd's Hey though where literally just about every note is a quarter note and it's hard to keep track of.
Isaac Talisman Nice! Did you do well? I'm sure you did, viola solos are amazing when they are included. When i sai quarter notes i meant like simple music, like quarter notes! :) most of the time we dont get melodies nor solos.
At that point, it's a matter to take to your director. Our director chose parts that highlight us so we do well, and I will say I got way better with just those three songs.
Oh my goodness, one of my top favorite pieces of all time… I absolutely LOVED playing it. We were originally gonna perform this in 10th grade, but since the stupid pandemic hit, we didn’t, and that completely broke me… but luckily we got to play it again when I was in 12th grade, and it made me the happiest person alive ^^
+fiery pheonix I got this song in full orchestra too for all county. I play viola and I love the song. Sadly, the full orchestra kind of ruins it and it sounds much better with only a string orchestra.
were doing this piece for out 7/8 grade orchestra and band concert, I dont really think this piece deserves above a 3 let alone a 4.5 (as a band player I feel they should really add band instruments to these music videos, 4:09 is my fav part when the brass usually takes over)
Violas Are Amazing... I'd switch if my conductor would let me... Don't be discouraged... The viola has the most amazing range in the ensemble and it's a kick ass instrument in general
CC Vegetarian Violinist that's unfortunate but my teacher let me switch from one of the best 1st violinist to bass and then cello for a bit but I'm sticking with bass
i remember when i first learned to play this song. i had a hard time with th=at first set of triplets and the melody in the beginning where it introduces it with the violas
+Derrius Brooks Everyone knows Egypt is in Africa. The only time you would have to say where a country is in a video is if the country is small (Like Qatar, Bahrain, Andorra, Vatican City, Malta, ect.) or when it is not known as much (Cameroon, Kuwait, Liechtenstein, Swaziland, Nepal for some reason, Belize, ect.) Just don't flaunt obvious information like that. It irritates people.
played this at my school district's concert festival a little over a week ago (2nd violin on 2nd chair!!) and i've gotta say i think its one of my favorites, even though it was difficult lol there's just something about those triplet parts man
My advanced sixth grade orchestra from middle school had about 27 violin players and one viola, and that viola player wasn't exactly the best. Feeling bad, first chair from violins switched to viola. (Then I got first chair. :P)
I play the viola, but I don't hear many people talking about violas, I usually hear stuff about violins (almost all the time) and it kinda annoys me...
It's so beautiful but I've only been playing the violin for 1 year and 3 months and I have to play excerpts from this song and all of them are the hardest ones. But besides that I really like this song~ it's so cool.
Yeah.. I guess it also makes it somewhat harder to play too because playing melody is much easier than just notes that by themselves make no sense. Forces you to actually listen and play with the other parts instead of just constantly playing forte like so many violin sections do (not all)
I'm playing this for my region concert and I got 4th chair but the 3 people that beat me were playing science they were 5 and 7 and I've been playing since I was 10
Hey, dont be hatin, its already hard to scrape together a few of us that play normally, nobody likes playing viola for some reason and everyone chooses violin D=
lol lol orchestra players have to take the fact that most popular orchestras or symphonies use "band" instruments. I mean band is actually really bad at describing the instruments. Half of "band" instruments are actually orchestral instruments and the other half are jazz instruments
its so amusing to look back on pieces like these and see all the comments from middle schoolers....
Woah
middle schoolers?
@@toad2047bro I’m playing this in 8th grade 💀

Betty Oster maybe you did, but there’s a whole lot of pieces that have the same style as this, and they can be mixed up easily if you haven’t heard them for a while :P
I love Newbold's work. There's just something that makes all his pieces sound really good. This and Arabian Dream are my favorites.
Mephostopheles Soon Hee Newbold is a female.

I love the Egyptian feel! Also I notice good bass parts for once
Miss playing this song in orchestra so much last year in spring as senior in High school . ;(
It sounds something from there. Beautiful piece of music.
