Thanks. We are using aquarium soil. It can be considered as dirt since the soil will break down into very fine particles, plus dead plants/animals matters are seep deep into the soil layer.
Maintenance of planted tank includes trimming of aquatic plants, changing of water and dosing of fertilizers. For water changes, you will need to remove algae growing on the glass (if any) and siphon out the water using a manual/auto pump. The amount of water changed depends on what you want to do. Usually ranges from 10 to 50% (de-chlorinated water). Replacement is easy, just top it up. But try not to disturb the plants and soil when adding water.
Hi. Yes, you could say that. But test the water parameter to ensure that it is still on the safe side if you wish to decrease the frequency of water changes.
Hi. Scarlet Bardis eats only live or frozen worms, daphnia, brineshrimps etc. They will not eat dry feed. SB are also quite territorial and fight very often. Therefore, you need more hiding space for individual scarlet bardis to hide etc.
@bm20197 Thanks! I never trim my Japanese Hairgrass as they will not grow tall. Older leaves just dies off and floats to the top and quickly replaced by new leaves. As for the other plants like Tenellus, I trim them once every 2-4 weeks depending on their growth.
We are using compress CO2 regulated by solenoid regulator. And finally diffused by a diffuser. A more efficient method of dissolving CO2 would be via a reactor though.
You need not trim them if you want them to carpet. They do not grow tall. Old leaves will turn yellow and float to the surface and new leaves will replace them. Maintenance is really easy. :)
I do not vacuum the soil at all. The dead plants or food matters will break down and taken up but the plants as nutrients. And there are lots of baby shrimps crawling everywhere. Theres no way I could vacuum without killing the babies.
Thank you for your quick response. So good to know that vacuuming is not necessary to have a healthy and beautiful fish tank!
Top notch all the way through! Beautiful arrangement, a living piece of art, which I think is most of our goal. Nicely done!
I love your water art gardens. Beautiful !

With this beautiful Japanese grass everywhere, how do you vacuum the soil? Or do you not do it at all?
Yes, you can. :)

Yes, we are using aquarium soil.
If you have time can u make a tutorail on how u made those carpets
Dear viewers, there is a typo error in the naming of 1 of the aquatic plants. It should be Eleocharis Vivipara and NOT Eleocharis Vivapara. :)
i have a question are you using aquasoil?
Hopefully after college when I get a job I'll put one like this in my office :p haha are you using amano soil?

We will try to more tutorials.

They are Dwarf/Japanese Hairgrass.
We are using iMovie from Apple.
Haha.. This tank has been teared down. I will try to make a tutorial on similar design.
We are not specifically use only ADA. We are using other brands.

How many gallons
Nope, we never vaccum the substrate because we are using soil. Since it is fully planted, the 'dead organic matters' is beneficial to the plants.
Nope, we are using another brand, ANS which works fine. :)
i guess he is talking about ada aquasoil
