Steam returns to the English Riviera | Dartmouth Steam Railway 13/04/2021

Public steam services have returned to the English Riviera once more, as the easing of lockdown restrictions has allowed the Dartmouth Steam Railway to recommence passenger services once again.
With 4MT - 75014 at the helm, the DSR operated six return trips over the 6.7 mile line between Paignton and Kingswear - battling the steep gradients that the English Riviera has to offer. The railway are currently running a service three days a week; Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, until the restrictions are further eased on the 17th of May.
Locomotives:
BR Standard Class 4MT - 75014 "Braveheart"

Spent two years as a fireman on this line. 1988-1990 Wouldn't call myself a steam or train enthusiast but absolutely loved this job looking back. Track maintenance through the winter months. Thanks for posting

At 3:17, the scene bears remarkable resemblance to the West Highland Line as it approaches Glenfinnan Viaduct, appropriate for an engine with the name 'Braveheart'. Looked awesome!

75014 spent its final years based in Shrewsbury where it worked some of the last steam services over the Cambrian line in mid Wales

I envy you I retired to northern France about eight years ago but returned regularly for my parents and used to manage to see some steam whilst there but have not been able to get back since December 2019 because of COVID and am desperately in need of a steam train fix. There is very little mainline stream here and most of the heritage railways are metre gauge and just run on odd weekends no regular services.

Really nice combination of heritage steam and Devon scenery. This is a line I've never been able to visit unfortunately living "up North". Just a pity about those awful green water slides ! Please keep your videos coming.

I remember riding with “braveheart” on Dartmouth railway in 2019. By then her name plate was red than light blue as you see it.

Stunning video. Really capture the atmosphere of both the line and the surrounding area. So so good to see these heritage lines back up and running again. A quick techie question - do you use the zoom controller on your camcorder, or do you have a separate LANC zoom controller ? I struggle to get my zooming out slow enough using the in-built one on my XA11 - yours seem more natural looking to the extent that I don't even notice when you are zooming out. Many thanks - Nigel.

The camera is a Panasonic HC-V770, using the standard in-built zoom control. It takes a bit of getting used to, as it still suffers from the standard Panasonic quirk of staggered zooming when zooming out. Cheers.
