    I remember when the vortec 350 came out and everyone thought they had hotrods. Those trucks probably ran a 16. Now we have 2.7 4 cylinders running low 15s and people are calling them slow. Times sure have changed.

    People that make fun of this engine are just showing their ignorance. I love old stuff, but I'm not offended by new stuff. I have a '71 Buick Riviera with a 7.5L V8 (455) it weighs 4500lbs and is rated roughly 330hp and 500lb torque gross. Probably closer to 260hp net. At run what you brung my best time was 16.2 in the quarter. This 2.7 is beating an engine almost 3 times its size. Sure, the 455 has more potential, but we are not talking hypothetical.

    A friend of mine has the same engine in his Silverado and he launches it in AWD at 3800 rpm. It launches good but runs a 15 flat at best. They just run out of steam at the higher mph due to the small displacement. Not bad though considering his previous Silveradio with a 5.3 ran the same time in the 1/4. Both trucks are double cab configs.

    You don’t need helmets to drag race? The drag strip near me house requires helmets because it’s safer

    • @JrsGasolineAlley
      @JrsGasolineAlley  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't when you go this slow, lol. NHRA rules (what most tracks require) for test-n-tune days like this is 13.99 or faster require helmet.

      Depends on what you're racing.if you're running low 9's you probably need full roll cage, helmets and everything.running 85 mph in the quarter mile isn't that dangerous.they have it figured out, they're not going to let people get out there and hurt themselves if they can help it.

    It's a truck, with a turd for an engine.

      lol, thats a intersting remark. Personally I really like the motor and most people I know who have driven them feel that way too.

      @@JrsGasolineAlley Compared to my truck, it is a turd. A 4 cylinder has no place in a truck. That engine is for a school girls car, and I can't see anyone realistically walking into a GM dealer and picking this out for a truck.
      Yes, I'll have that slate blue with a 2.7 turbo please😆

      The 2.7 turbo has more power and torque then the 4.3 v6

    • @shickenchits8123
      @shickenchits8123 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Shabnation Yes it does. It is also comparable to the 5.3 in 0-60 times, however, it belongs in a Malibu. GM could have at least turbocharged the 4.3 to run with the Ford.

      I really think it’s a good motor. I traded my GMC in for a new 2021 6.2/10 speed on a Friday night. By the time we finished the deal...it was to late for them to prep my new truck and I was given a 2020 with the 2.7 for the weekend. That thing really has torque just above idle and is much better than the 4.3. The big question is how will it hold up in a few more years. I would have zero nerves about the 2nd gen 2.7ecoboost motor... but I have two co workers who had expensive failures on their gen 1 eco boost motors (a timing chain and a blown turbo). If the longevity is there and GM gradually ups the already generous power...they have a nice light duty truck on their hands.
