    The Goodbye Tour
    Ozark Empire Fair
    Springfield, Missouri
The video is a little shaky at times because I didn't have a tripod. Where I was sitting I didn't have room for one. I did the best I could with what I had and so my hand got a little shaky at times. Hope that you enjoy these videos of Glen Campbell from his Goodbye Tour.

Glen's last solo here proves that musical genius is not of a human body and brain.....it is otherwordly, of the soul...and beyond. There should be no doubt.

I love TJ Kuenster here, the keyboardist who had been with Glen since 1977. Have seen many a concert with TJ's big smile just groovin' with Glen and waiting for his time to strut his stuff. However, on the Goodbye Tour, he was always so serious and very aware of Glen's actions on stage. Translated: I got your back friend, and won't let you down.
Also, notice how the crowd doesn't react negatively when Glen makes a mistake. Translated: We got your back Glen, and won't let you down. The man commanded respect through his music!

He wasn't in advanced stages of Dementia of Alzheimers type yet. It's a truly frightening ,creepy and cryptic Nuerodegenerative condition I would wish on nobody. It's traumatic for family like wife and offspring to go through it all with taking care of him when he reaches the point when he no longer can converse or then even body language goes to the wayside..

This is actually a miraculous performance. For anyone who doesn't know, Glen C was suffering from Alzheimers during this tour so every performance was akin to walking a tightrope. Often, Glen looks over to his son for support. Sometimes his face seems to be saying "I've forgotten the next line! What the heck comes next?' Yet somehow his musicality pulls him through.
He mistakenly cuts short the guitar solo first time round, but the band foillow him seamlessly. The solo goes as it should the 2nd time but Glen then loses his way a little vocally. Still his talent allows him to improvise a way back!
Performing with a faulty brain, and still finding a way to express creativity and beauty in an ever diminishing mental world is utterly heroic. Watching this brings a tear to my eye.

@Secret Mission. Excellent commentary. This song almost always brings tears to my eyes. Glen Campbell still has an excellent voice here. Only this week, I’m discovering Jimmy Webb and I’m so happy that he’s still around and not that old. Jimmy Webb is 73 in 2020. While Jimmy sings his songs well, he can’t sing them like Glen Campbell.

It was truly an amazing thing to experience and I brought my mom, who was then 86 years old, to the show with me, suffering with dementia 💔. This is a very special memory for me since she has now passed away at 90 years old.
She was my concert buddy and one of the reasons I chose to move to Music City a dozen years ago, back in the days before the music died..... sorry 💔 I am feeling a bit melancholy, it is the day after the loss of another great, John Prine, may he RIP.

With dementia, its the short term memory that goes first, while the longer term memories endure much longer. I believe that's what we are seeing and appreciating here. Wichita Lineman, like all of his other hits was already well imprinted in his mind from playing and performing it over and over, from way back. He's in 'auto-pilot' mode as he merely lets his hands and voice follow the familiar pattern. In this clip, I think* there are moments where he gets distracted, and needs the help of his fellow (family) band members to get him seated back in auto-pilot again. You can see clearly how his family lovingly make the necessary adjustments along the way.
Ardent Glen Campbell fans will tear up everytime we see clips like this. With his faithful band members these last performances are a precious gift; and the slight interruptions that dementia wroughts become a beautiful dimension of the late masterpieces this great legend has generously left us. My goodness, what a Legend. Thank you, Glen.

CAVERN1234 I agree, but the last 2+ years he hasn't been able to do either. During his farewell tour in 2011-12, he was on the 2nd verse of "Gentle on my mind", and the teleprompter went out. He was lost immediately and it was halted until they got it working again. My mom had Alzheimer's also and it was so hard to see her decline. You couldn't have a conversation at all.

It was so cool to here that even when he was having a bad day memory wise on this tour, that they said as soon as he was on stage it all seemed to come back to him and at least for a little while he was almost back to his old self. Even towards his last days when he could no longer remember his family they said he could still play. That's truly a man who was born for music.

Beautiful....and bittersweet. Glen Campbell was one of my very first musical influences when I was a child. I can still recall my late father playing GC's first album on his old tube stereo...and I was mesmerized. GC was one of the very few who could play virtually any style of music and any song still make it his own. Recently, I listened to his original recording of "Wichita Lineman", then a version from the beginning of his "Goodbye" tour...and now this one. Rather poetic in a sense, as he's "following that line into the distant sun".

The look on the bands faces when they think they’re finishing the number and glen pulls another terrific solo out of his memory banks somehow. What a man. Damn I’m gutted I found his talent after he passed away.

The music by Glen and Jimmy will last forever. So this Christmas, on my list, I'm asking my wife for his greatest hits. So my children, ages 13 and 16 will know what great song writing and masterful musicianship sounds like. Glen was and will always be a world wide treasure.

Glen isn't gone - but I miss him so much. I get teary-eyed whenever I see him in these videos. I was lucky to see him play a few years before this - and he was awesome.

Thank you so much for posting this! I was at this show & knowing that this would probably be the last time I would see this Amazing man perform was bitter sweet. He has played with virtually every entertainer on the planet, was one of the most sought after session players for the "Wrecking Crew", recorded guitar tracks on just about every album ever made in the 60's & 70's, hosted his own network television show, giving many - many people a shot at a music career that wouldn't have gotten one other wise... Most people don't know what an amazing guitar player Glen Campbell was/is, as he literally influenced many of the greats we hear today! Thanks again!
