    “Why does she act like she’s in a different movie from everyone else”
    This is my prime issue with her; she’s in the wrong movie

    I should point out that it's very hypocritical of Disney to make anti-capitalism jokes when they're one of the biggest capitalist companies in the world.

    This movie made me miss shai labouf with Crystal Skull. That movie showed that even though Indy was older, he was still a force to be reconned to with. Plus... Mutt never left Indy to die... Multiple times

      Agreed. And I used to not appreciate that movie but now am grateful it exists to at least divert anyone’s potential time and sanity from Dial a Ditzybitch.

      I find the movie really fun, and it fits as an homage to the 50s genre of Tarzan jungle adventures and outer space/spacemen movies. Each movie was a different type of homage to classic movies/shows from the 40s-50s.

    She put Indiana in situations where he could get killed with no remorse. She’s an evil character.

    Never try to build a new movie character at the expense of an established and beloved movie character. The audience will resent it, and rightly so.

    These people literally made Elsa look like a good, standup woman. The actual, unironic Femme Fatale working with the Nazis (though not exactly for them) in Last Crusade, who for whatever her many, MANY other sins doesn't try to outright kill Indy and actually risks her life hoodwinking the Nazis, and who clearly shows some love for the archaeology and the deeper meaning of the artifacts rather than just MERELY power.
    Elsa's not a good guy, she just looks like one compared to this corrupt, vile, violent, ungrateful backstabber.

    It almost seemed like there was an "attempt" to create a complex character who would eventually have an arc but no. They wrote her as a horrible person and it was like "are they gonna have her grow?" But they forgot writing 101 and she doesn't change.

    I didn't really think I could hate Phoebe Waller Bridge any more after what she's done to Star Wars (as the feminist robot in Solo) and James Bond (cucking 007 in the script), but she has really found every possible way to be scorned and despised by destroying another hero and another beloved and profitable franchise.
    HOW DID THIS HAPPEN? AGAIN???

    Helena is so bad written that I only can see her as a villan. And not a "good" one, she is disturbing like Jar Jar Binks, you simple can´t like the girl.

    At the end, if you remember, Indy still a murder by the police... We don´t see the resolution of this problem. This movie is a master class of bad writing. I really try to like it, really. For Harrison, for the character of Indy. Sometimes I think It´s better then KOCS, but, the days are passing, and as Sallah Says "perhaps, perhaps not".

  • @DelightfullyMADD

    What's even more disgusting about hooking Indie back up with Marrion at the end is that, if you have any understanding of Indie from the last movies... he had a house, a nice house, and tenure and definitely a very good income... and after he and Marrion divorced, he's now living in a crappy apartment like a doddering old has-been.
    Marrion literally took Indie's house from him in the divorce... and probably was reaming him for alimony on top of that. So even at the end, Helena only managed to get Indie back together with the b*tch who divorced him over their son deciding to go to war and get himself killed, took everything from him in that divorce... but hey, here ya go Indie, get back together with the woman who ditched you and took your house and money! You're welcome~

    • @Preplot
      @Preplot  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      They're not divorced yet (there was a notice on his table, easy to miss), but you're right, he's done nothing wrong and it looks like he's been kicked out of the house. It's funny.
      I don't know why Indy is so obsessed with this woman, but I blame Crystal Skull.

  • @spencerreid2086

    to be Honest the film would be better in my opinion if Helena was one of the villains you can still have Voller and his people as the main physical threat throughout the film but have Helena be the main one that's meant to mirror Indie somewhat the movie could have focused on him not moving on from Mutt and Marion.
    and Helena could have mirrored it in her being obsessed over the artefact that her father was also obsessed with and Indie follows her around hoping to save her from her obsession and due to his relationship with her father he refuses to believe that she's too far gone even after she does bad things like leaves him for dead and puts other lives in danger.
    and Ultimately Indie has to let her go and realise that she can't be helped and is too far gone maybe during the climax the characters crash the plane but Voller and some of the Henchmen are still alive and it could be that the portal is closing in mere minutes Voller and his men are are fighting with the warring people.
    and the Dial is right smack in the middle of it all since no one's focusing on him Indie gets in the smaller plane that the kid brought and he shouts to Helena to come with him giving her one last chance to let it go but Helena like the other villains in the series refuses.
    and instead runs to the Dial Indie realises there's no more time and takes off in the plane with the kid and after they make it through the portal closes just as Helena gets her hands on the Dial only to realise her refusal to let go has quite literally left her stuck in the past.
    and her and Voller's exact fate is up to you really maybe Indie sees in the History books that they were seen as strange invaders and were slaughtered by the armies or maybe they were imprisoned I don't know.
    just an idea I had I'm not saying this would have made the movie amazing or anything but it would make Helena a less shit character in my opinion if the film actually just acknowledged how evil some of her actions are.

    Coming back to your video, I have to commend all of your great work and sacrifice for watching such a bad movie. What shocks me the most is that the writers wanted to create an "empowered" woman and they created the most insufferable and toxic woman I've ever seen in my life.

    Well done. I think the reason this kind of analysis is so important is because the writers, director/producer, actors, media all lie to us and gaslight us about what we are watching with such brutal heavy handedness that it is cathartic to see the truth, even if it is about this mostly meaningless subject. The meaning is in the lie and exposing it. Thank you

    I think something that could have made helinas character more interesting would be perhaps she thought Indy caused her father to go crazy so she holds a grudge against him while Indy is trying to convince her that he was good friends with her dad, it’s only later that they find out that her father was working with the bad guys and now her and Indy can reconcile their differences

    All the story about this woman being the goddaughter from a colleague of Indiana Jones took too much place for nothing really worthy.

    People have noted that in the grand scheme of _Raiders of the Lost Ark_ Indy is ultimately superfluous because his actions don’t affect the outcome: Nazis still find the ark, open it, and get obliterated. The only affect he has is to speed up its discovery, delay its opening, and put it in the hands of “top men”. Based on some unused material, we can at least say Jones grew as a character because he became more of a believer since in the beginning, he seems amused by the notion that the Ark is anything more than a box made by possibly superstitious Jews, but then figures he should do as some text he looked over advised and not look while the Ark is opened. In _this_ film, if Indy had not done anything, 2 people would likely still be alive, the bad guys would have found the dial in the archive, somehow likely still figured out where the other piece was, and flown into the wrong historical date getting their asses handed to them by antique Romans.
    At least in the first 3 the Ark of the Covenant is locked away where no one can get their hands on it because of all those *top men* and poor warehousing skills; the village and its children are saved by getting at least one stone back in their possession; and Donovan and his lot are killed so they can’t lead Hitler to the Grail while Indy also repairs his relationship with his father.

    • @Preplot
      @Preplot  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think they were going for the "defiling or using ancient relics for your own greed or selfishness will get you killed" theme (like the Grail or the Ark), which would have been fine if it wasn't done so poorly. I lost it when they started shooting at the Romans. Why? What are you doing?

    • @MichaelAarons1701
      @MichaelAarons1701 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Preplot And that could have worked if they’d run with that arrogant belief that the newer generations are stronger against the old only to be sorely proven wrong. Considering that the Present is the bubblegum late 1960’s with the invading force being Nazi remnants led by a not-so-bright scientist who thought he could tell Hitler, “hold my beer” going against an army of Romans, the important quality of overwhelming, even frightening forces of the Old World would not be lost. There needs to be costly conditions to the treasure and overwhelming implications if not prepared because the world must always be left with power being tenuously within Man’s grasp or it can’t continue to function without major renovation. Keep the dial’s abilities for time travel to an immobile place, have the villains not be so specific in their destination (and really hateable), and make it a bit complicated so the danger outweighs the gain.

    I still get flak for saying Willie Scott is a better character than Helena. People think Willie is insufferable. Willie saves Indy and Shortround fairly early on. Yeah she screams but she is like a fish out of water taken out of her element. She doesnt straight up try to murder Indy or leave him for dead or try to pin murders on him or laugh when his friend gets blown up.

      You're right, but Indy's point of view is never heard or taken seriously, not just by Helena but by the film itself, because every time they have an argument she wins, or at least doesn't lose. Those lines are there for comic relief, to tell the grumpy old loser to shut his mouth or to make fun of him, not to show how flawed she is.
