Loved the video. Im in NZ and contacted Lin Pardey last year. She agreed to do an interview with me but, with Covid and that she was in Australia for a while, we have sofar not connected .Im currently in the boat yard that Wanderer 5 was built and that Eric Hiscock died.

When Lin & Larry started their sailing career, their heros were Erik and Susan Hiscock, a British couple who were among the first to circumnavigate following WWII. The Hisckocks made a documentary of one of their voyages for the BBC. Lin & Larry learned from their experience and adopted many of their movie storytelling techniques into their own films. Working with Lin, TSC recently released a tribute to her late husband and sailing partner. The 93 minute bio-documentary, THE REAL DEAL: Larry Pardey, Legendary Sailor & Adventurer is produced by Mike Anderson. We also distribute the 1960 16mm Hiscock documentary, Beyond the West Horizon, along with all the Pardey offshore videos.

Not sure how you manage to cram so much research into each week, but I have enjoyed this season of Lady K very much.

I love this video. I had the pleasure of meeting Larry & Lynn twice. The first time I had no idea who they were but loved listening to the stories. They are both very nice and friendly. The 2nd time, Larry was showing his decline so I spent most of the time talking to Lynn. I believe they already had a home base in New Zealand. Their behavior makes me long for sailing far to meet such kind and humble people.

i meet Lin and Larry in the mid/late 70’s and attended a slide show presentation at Orange Coast College of their circumnavigation.
i can still hear Larry’s voice narrating, and photo images are etched in my mind. bravo a life well lived !

Before the Pardey's, were Eric and Susan Hiscock. Yet another cruising couple who have many sea miles and many books to their credit.

The other cruising couple that I admired was Anne and Pete Hill. Their book “Voyaging on a Small Income” is dangerous for all wannabe’s. It’s unfortunate that they eventually split up. But that book is also inspiring. They were proponents of the simplified junk rig, but also of sorting out where things belonged on their vessel called “Badger”. Based on a design by Benford. I’ve seen some TH-cam videos of Anne, still cruising, and doing interviews. She still seems charming. You might want to do a video on them, as well

Despite having read many of their stories in magazines when I was growing up I only got a copy of the first book a couple of years ago. A great read though it does leave a bit of a nostalgic bite when I think of just how different (and usually more crowded and commercialized) so many of the places they visited on that first journey have become. The book includes an account of the material cost for Serrafyn and an estimate from a builder friend of theirs of how much he would have had to charge to build a boat like her. In today's dollars they came to $60K and $250K respectively! I would love to see you do some more episodes on some of the others who inspired many to go sailing. The Hiscocks have been mentioned already, then there are the Smeeton's and my personal favorite John Guzzwell. I got to see his Trekka in person a few years back. It was inspiring to see and touch the boat that had been built in my part of the world and then gone on to circle the planet more than once. It was also mind blowing to see how small she is!

I've heard about the books and this couple stories, and had decided to buy and read their book, since I'm a couple of years away from casting the lines, given this great video, I'll read their book. And it will be, as l9ng as it's fun, though I'm sure it will be since I seem to have the right attitude. Thank you. Awesome story. Fair winds, Captain Pardey.

We cruised for 8 years and several times something would happen we weren't ready for, and then something we read from the Pardeys would come to mind, and it was always the right answer. Go small, go now. Good advice.

Very interesting...Coming to think about it.....I did something similar , but I started in 1952 and only a year later I had some 8500 miles under me keel.
But that was years ago...Today, I am a retired Master mariner FG with a PhD. in Physical Chem. basking in me memories.....

Does Kismet translate to hindsight is 20/20? Sure we can look back at how small a chance many meetings are, but we would do the same for any other fateful meetings.
I prefer to enjoy life as it comes and not worry when my karma will pay me back. Most people are nice and we can all enjoy each other's company.
