I'm a Disney employee and I volunteered that day Thursday the 6th of October since no else wanted to work.. I was so scared going to work in those whether conditions i was driving in I4 everybody was heading WEST except my self and another car behind me... But Disney provided us a room to stay at and all the food during our stay and a hurricane special pay... I was there and took car of our guests... Abdellah

I live in Florida, and Disney does "educational" field trips where your class goes into the park an hour before it opens and learn historical things. ( we saw the president show & rode big thunder mountain!) it was totally empty!!

The closest I've ever been to a large strom/blizzard was back in college in Iowa. The blizzard ended up quite a way away, but it was scary as heck for someone from the tropics like me. Seeing the whole sky lit up because there was so much snow freaked me out bad. Thankfully I was with other students, all huddled together in the dorm basement. And thankfully someone brought a guitar--that really help eased the tension.

Blizzards are far less damaging and far less scary then a Hurricane. I grew up in Wisconsin, and there they have far more blizzards then Idaho.
But now I live in Florida, and I went through Hurricane Charlie, and 2 other hurricanes back to back in less then 2 weeks.
At least in blizzards you usually never loose power. They also have far less wind by OVER 3/4 less wind then a hurricane.
But Hurricanes can have gusts of wind around 150+ mph, and loose electricity, and much much more damage.
Dorm Basement? Dude Blizzards are not that bad you need to go in the basement.
I lived in Wisconsin for 27 years, and not once did we have to go in the basement. not once. and Wis. has far more blizzards and stronger then Idaho.

TheRockCynic I live in NC and it was really bad for me. So many roads were closed many roads have huge holes. There are lakes drained of water too...

I find it fishy that Disney World was untouched by the Hurrican as if they had some kind of force field when the hurrican got near it dissolved in seconds

I live close to WDW, and no. We were just too far inland for much to get us. A lot of wind.
yeah for the most part Orlando will get the storms but not the actual hurriccane. it's just the location

I'm in my school's band and we were supposed to perform in one of the parades at Disney World that exact day but because of the hurricane, they cancelled our trip:(

Phoenix breeze I went to Florida last year and I was evacuated from Blizzard Beach (because water parks aren't safe in storms) because of an incoming hurricane that was due within the next hour, turns out it wasn't a hurricane just a thunderstorm and didn't come till 8pm that night, another 4/5 hours later!!

My wife and I were on our first ever trip to WDW from California, and everyone we talked to said the weather would be just fine that time of year, so only prepared for heat and humidity. Then, two days into our trip they upgraded the incoming storm to a Cat-4! We were in Epcot when the storm really picked up around 4pm, and I literally saw a little girl tossed to the ground by the wind! To be sure, it's a historical trip I will never forget.

Closest thing to this that's ever happened to me was when I was on star tours the fire alarm went off and we had to evacuate it the store by it and space mountain were closed too. JUST TAKE ME BACK TO DISNEYLAND 😭 it would have been the last ride we went on! But noooo!

Jenna Poole+ you have 2 days left at Disney, and have to sit in a room the rest of the time, and see if you get ADHD. All you can think about is the money you are wasting, with your pre paid Disney entrance, hotel and car rental.
Now I am sure, Disney reimburse you the days they can not open, but not the hotel and car rental.
Not to mention NOTHING to do in a hotel room.
Now Justin goes all the time to Disney World, Land, and Lands in other countries all the time, but for a family that had to save years for a trip to Disney world, and kids board in a hotel, room, they will even think more about the costs of hotel and car rental and not be able to get into Disney.

I was at Disney when the hurricane came, strong wind and we had to stay in the hotel and the parks closed at 5:00 pm, I was at the parade and it was rainy, the good thing was I was at Bay Lake and we could go across the bridge to the Contempary
Having had to ride out Matthew- for some reason I keep reivisiting this video. The calm, quiet nature of the park is so settling, the rumbling of the windy sky- it's all so relaxing despite the tense atmosphere. This is definitely one of my favorite videos from Justin.

I visited Florida a couple of months after this and the East Coast was still fairly devastated. The fields were still flooded and there was a ton of damage.
I've been in other hurricanes on FL and I'd never seen anything like that.

wow... at least people staying on property got to enjoy the park for some of the day before the storm came. bummer for those that had 3-4 day passes and couldnt have a full stay. but better safe than sorry of course!!!

Oh my goodness I was there during the hurricane. I was staying at Pop Century and they shut down the food court for a while which was pretty suckish. But we got to walk right on splash mountain like 5 times in a row at the very end which was awesome.
Great job Justin. I worked at Disney World the first time it closed due to a hurricane threat. Best company I ever worked for, it was a childhood wish come true.

When I worked there in 2000 for a year. We had so many days we had to shut down for weather related events. Although, I did work at blizzard beach.
Phew! I'm glad I wasn't in this terrible storm! Well at least we got a little wind and rain in northern Cali.
