As advance as weather technology has gotten it's still not perfect. Irma was projected to be a serious major hurricane, but suddenly started to weaken right before it made landfall in florida and hit as a cat 3 instead of a cat 4 or 5 like projected. Even though a cat 3 is major it could have been a devastating hurricane which thankfully it wasn't. Forecasting weather is a tough job, there are many factors that can suddenly change a forecast at the last minute especially with hurricanes. With that said, It's better to get something wrong and have people over prepare for it, than to get something wrong and have people under prepare for it.
I know because I live in Florida, everybody was freaking out acting like they were going to die but it was WAY worse in Puerto Rico. Yeah it was bad bad people were over exaggerating how it would be for us...
Gabi Pro Andrew was a category 5 hurricane with storm surge, flash flooding and tornadoes. Irma was a bitchy little category 2 with a lot of rain and no power. At least the roof was still over our heads this time 😂

Errija James oh ya know just walking out side on a bridge during a major hurricane! I'm from up North but lived here long enough to know it not the smartest idea lol
I visited the park the first day they reopened and you really could not tell that a hurricane had hit inside the Disney properties with the exception of a small handful of downed trees. Hats off to Disney to be able to do what they do. They are definitely a well oiled machine. My heart goes out to the residents of Florida and all the areas and islands that were affected during this storm and all the others. I will be donating!
CelticShadow75 should really watch docs of the underbelly of disney. It has water proof tunnels with buildings structured with hurricanes in mind. they have plans for emergency like this. One of my boyfriends cousin works there during vaca months. And was there during irma, was scary but she was safe. :D
I was actually in Disney when Irma hit I was staying at the Boardwalk Villas. When the storm was over I remember looking across at Yacht and Beach club resort, and seeing a ton of trees have fallen over as well as damaging a ton of the property. BTW I remember the wait times for the major attractions were 5 minutes and sometimes walk ons which is crazy!
when this hurricane was happening i was so curious to what was going on at Disneyworld and I saw this video in my recommended and IMMEDIATELY clicked it and to my surprise YOU filmed and put this video up! Thanks Jake!
I'm a little jealous. Not because of the hurricane, but because I'm pretty sure the Contemporary is the only hotel we haven't stayed at. :P Glad you're safe, Jake.

and he double back flipped off a building onto the roof of another building where he climbed into the window of a hotel and ran down the hall at full speed knocking everyone out of his way as he speeds through jumps out of an open window lands on the cold wet road tens of feet below him without a scratch then teleports to Neptune
Some of your best work here, Jake! But I must say I'm surprised you and Matt Sonswa didn't try to ride out the storm and vlog from Discovery Island or the maybe even live from the recently "abandoned" great movie ride!?!? It's great that the Magic Kingdom, etc are now closed well ahead of hurricanes as until 9/11 it was a point of pride that Disney World never closes. As a former cast member, I can vouch for the plans and procedures still in place to evac and shelter all guests into the Utilidors. What a magical cluster fcuk that would be to execute. Stay safe and keep the great work coming!
I think they park two monorails in the Contemporary Lobby every night, as normal practice, since their maintenance center only holds 10 of their 12 trains in the fleet
If I remember correctly you are right on that. I think they would have parked the epcot ones at the ticket and transportation center, as it would have the better shelter than the epcot station.
Until the impending doom of you getting swept away and hitting buildings at such fast speeds that it could possibly badly injure or kill you and destroy all your hopes and dreams of possibly living atleast just one day. But yeah that sounds fun!
I was there yesterday at Hollywood Studios, and the wait for smugglers run (the new galaxy’s edge attraction) never went above 80 minutes, and i was able to get on in 60. Nothing like this video though lol, but the parking lot for hollywood studios was near empty on one side
Jake, when people said they wanted you to actually explore the places you talked about, I don’t think they meant explore Disney World during a hurricane.
best way to do that.. Not going outside during a hurricane. I've been through two myself, Irene in 2011 and Sandy in 2012. It's not exactly fun. I found someone else's satellite dish on my front steps after the first one.
Wow that's crazy. Would have loved to see the clean up of the park. Just seems crazy to me that they can do that in a single day and be back in business the next.
I honestly never felt so anxious in my life (I live in Tampa). At first, it was targeted to hit directly under me, Sarasota. As I got to the temp shelter, it had changed course slightly and hit around Naples/Ft Myers area, so Tampa mostly got about cat 2, maybe some cat 3 gusts. Power was out for about a week. Next time, I will just drive over to the opposite end of the state.
K05 T4R i wish you the best of luck. i am naturally scared of tornadoes, storms, etc. and i can’t imagine almost dying and being saved by god’s will because a storm died about a mile before me.
I found out I was pregnant a few days before this hurricane. We thought we were going to blow away. I was so scared I am extremely grateful my beautiful baby boy is ok. Stress was extremely high and I am glad I didn’t miscarry. I almost evacuated with some family friends but I decided to stay with my newly wed husband. I am glad I did. My friends got stuck running from hotel to hotel. It was bad. Hurricane weakened and It was not as bad as it looked at first. But it was a seriously scary time. No power for weeks later but we ride it out! My baby is perfectly healthy!
BTW Jake, The Contemporary was a great choice. While it's theming is sub-par, I think that it's views and ancient (70s) appearance make it Disney's best hotel by the Magic Kingdom.
i was at disney world two weeks before irma and i'm shocked. like i was right where you were, except it was way more busier. like jesus christ. anyways, this was amazing!! thank you for this view into the apocalypse 💕
nichon lait I wouldn't really call it an apocalypse, but I was there 3 weeks before the hurricane and it was busy then too. Sunny every day and busy (a bit too busy at Magic Kingdom :/ )
nichon lait same, it was for a holiday, I'm so happy we didn't stay any longer and flew back to New Zealand, we didn't even know any of this would happen, I guess my family leaves a trail of destruction, last time we came to America it flooded once we left, sooo~~~
Thank you so much for making this video! I know it’s been a few years since this happened. But I live in Jacksonville Florida and my girls and I were hunkered in while Irma hit and I didn’t even consider what was going on at Disney. I really enjoyed watching this and it makes me even more grateful for the work they all do there❤️👍🏼
If I learned anything from this video its that Disney is impeccably quick at designing, printing, and installing signs
Noah Bolanowski
they have plans in place for this. Disney as a park is a well oiled machine.

Him: *walks outside* I'm a bad bish u cant kill me
LMAO
Um
I was staying in a hotel in Orlando when this was happening and I saw a guy full speed BOLTING for the lobby
and?
and he double back flipped off a building onto the roof of another building where he climbed into the window of a hotel and ran down the hall at full speed knocking everyone out of his way as he speeds through jumps out of an open window lands on the cold wet road tens of feet below him without a scratch then teleports to Neptune
Wouldn't that be a terrible idea?
I love how the Disney employe cussed
Irma: *I`m the strongest hurricane ever!* *>:)*
Florence: *HOLD MY APPLE JUICE*
Super Typhoon Tip: y'all are cute.
Micheal: *_claps sarcastically_*
Katrina: Children please.
Sooo FUNNY chukydog
Hurricane John: I’m out bitches
The cast members that stayed and continued to do their jobs are awesome 💜
You should do an Abandoned episode on the Brazil Olympic Village.
ObeseManBehindACamera or really anything about the Brazil olympics
I think they park two monorails in the Contemporary Lobby every night, as normal practice, since their maintenance center only holds 10 of their 12 trains in the fleet
If I remember correctly you are right on that. I think they would have parked the epcot ones at the ticket and transportation center, as it would have the better shelter than the epcot station.
they can park them at any station, but when the weather gets ether rough or too cold, then the two odd trains out have to shelter in the contemporary.
I have to admit that looked pretty fun!
IKR!
Until the impending doom of you getting swept away and hitting buildings at such fast speeds that it could possibly badly injure or kill you and destroy all your hopes and dreams of possibly living atleast just one day. But yeah that sounds fun!
@@noer143 Lmao, that got dark.
Yep me too
Totally adding riding out a hurricane at Disney to my bucket list.
Who’s here after hearing that Hurricane Dorian is threatening NYC?
Hi
I was at disney a week before the hurricane was announced scary
Rick Vargas me
ME!!
I was there yesterday at Hollywood Studios, and the wait for smugglers run (the new galaxy’s edge attraction) never went above 80 minutes, and i was able to get on in 60. Nothing like this video though lol, but the parking lot for hollywood studios was near empty on one side
Man I'm just glad you're okay from the storm.
Hurricane Irma: *exists*
Bright Sun Films: *am i a joke to you?*
I don't know what that is so go head r/whooosh me
cool gamer me neither
Snowstrike same
Other way around really
If there is a natural disaster, Disney may be the safest place to be
+Gabriel Benselum Honestly.
Gabriel Benselum and happiest
It's where all the pedos go
Also the happiest.
That's because the magic is protecting everyone
disney: "don't go outside, it's dangerous"
this guy: "well, i am not going to do that"
Jake, when people said they wanted you to actually explore the places you talked about, I don’t think they meant explore Disney World during a hurricane.
Ayden Hascerflef welp someone got to record it
Ayden Hascerflef lmao ikr I😅😅😅
Austin Alexander Hurr durr let him live durrrr.
best way to do that.. Not going outside during a hurricane. I've been through two myself, Irene in 2011 and Sandy in 2012. It's not exactly fun. I found someone else's satellite dish on my front steps after the first one.
I still had a metal disk the size of a large pizza thrown at my front door.
Bright Sun Films (BSF): *books a room during Irma*
Irma: *happens*
BSF: *shocked pikachu meme*
Wow that's crazy. Would have loved to see the clean up of the park. Just seems crazy to me that they can do that in a single day and be back in business the next.
Oli414 That’s Disney for you.
One of the, if not the, biggest employers in Florida. Whatcha expect? Haha
Well they have to be prepared they are a multi-hundred billion dollar company with parks that cost around a few billion dollars.
2017:
2018:
2019:
2020:”Hey you should really watch this!”
Lmao same
now I know to go to Disney when a hurricane hits, if I die anyway then at least I die at Disney,AYAYYE
u know it u AYEE
u know it u YASSS AYEEEE
u know it u it’s a happy way to die in the happiest place
yeah, man just imagine no people, man you could ride more rides.
u know it u same
what a crazy experience this must have been. thanks for the footage, always wondered what it would be like to experience a hurricane at Disney World!
It's a very bad idea to go outside during a hurricane. Especially since those were only tropical storm force winds, and you could still barely walk.
Yep, it's not the wind, it's what the wind's blowing. A piece of debris will take you out, a rock becomes a bullet.
Mohammad Usman it's a great idea. Hurricane partys for the win. :-) gotta lean all the way back in the wind while taking a shot. Lmfao
S
Mohammad Usman i was outside during Irene, but for sandy I was in my bunker for that hurricane
STFU, he asked them to do a video. so FUCK YOU
I honestly never felt so anxious in my life (I live in Tampa).
ChillCosmos Omg I live in Tampa to!i am so glad I slept through it!
Whoelse is reading the comments for story's or people claiming To be in that place as the same place as Jake
K05 T4R i wish you the best of luck. i am naturally scared of tornadoes, storms, etc. and i can’t imagine almost dying and being saved by god’s will because a storm died about a mile before me.
Not gonna lie, I'm jealous
CashewKing15 lol why
Same. I wish I was there when Irma struck.
Supertrain12 same not at Disney but I was still here... For some reason
CashewKing15 same
No you don’t^ it was hell.. even here in west Orlando. Mainly cause of the no electricity
OMG YOU LITERALLY RISKING YOUR LIFE TO RECORD A VID!
I'm proud of your correct usage of the word "literally"...
👍👊
Disney deals with this almost every year they are pros at protecting their guests
@@iamdepressedpacito1481 that doesnt mean jake couldnt have been killed.
Hopefully you didn’t mutilate his genitals
No one cares
I'm glad you were all okay!
BTW Jake, The Contemporary was a great choice. While it's theming is sub-par, I think that it's views and ancient (70s) appearance make it Disney's best hotel by the Magic Kingdom.
Pessimistic Videographer While it sorta looks dated. I think it looks futuristic because buildings could be built like that in the future.
Pessimistic Videographer I stayed there as a kid in the late 70s. Really cool experience all around.
i was at disney world two weeks before irma and i'm shocked. like i was right where you were, except it was way more busier. like jesus christ. anyways, this was amazing!! thank you for this view into the apocalypse 💕
nichon lait I wouldn't really call it an apocalypse, but I was there 3 weeks before the hurricane and it was busy then too. Sunny every day and busy (a bit too busy at Magic Kingdom :/ )
Shaw that's strange. i was saying that it's weird to see magic kingdom practically empty, much like what would happen during an apocalypse
nichon lait same, it was for a holiday, I'm so happy we didn't stay any longer and flew back to New Zealand, we didn't even know any of this would happen, I guess my family leaves a trail of destruction, last time we came to America it flooded once we left, sooo~~~
lily Honestly I’m not that shocked😂 It was 2 weeks before, so I️ would expect people to be there
lily same
Teacher:tell me how you felt during the hurricane this weekend
Me: *I wEnT tO dIsNeY wOrLd KnOwN aS tHe HaPpIeSt AnD sAfEsT pLaCe On EaRtH*
XD
Sea level: are you sure about that
Thank you so much for making this video! I know it’s been a few years since this happened. But I live in Jacksonville Florida and my girls and I were hunkered in while Irma hit and I didn’t even consider what was going on at Disney. I really enjoyed watching this and it makes me even more grateful for the work they all do there❤️👍🏼
