How do you replace all of the colors on the top with the shades of green after doing rand 1 6? When I try I just end up making only making the same color pixels that are touching that color not all of them.
MagicaVoxel has had a few updates since this came out. The “Replace Voxel Color” Tool (paint bucket icon) now can replace either All Colors (old) or Colors Connected by Region (new default). So under the paint bucket tool you’ll see new menus that aren’t visible in this video. Go to the Region menu and click the single large square (same color) instead of the 4 small squares (connected region). That should fix it for you.
@@Voxelize Perfect! Thanks for that hasty response, I really appreciate small community channels like yours that have well constructed thoughtful videos and people running them that are happy to help. :)
@Voxelize Instead of going through all the rigmarole of using another program for your palette you can just drop your "block.png" on the palette 1st and then drop the "block.png" into the scene. This get you the correct palette without using another program and gives better results IMHO.
Ah yeah, good note! I didn't know that was a feature at the time - I'm not sure it's referenced anywhere in documentation - maybe a tweet or video from Ephtracy I might have missed. Not sure how the results are any different since it should all be the same colors and I think some might benefit from learning more about how the palette system works, but it's good to know about that shortcut. In some cases you might not be dealing with a PNG with a tightly indexed palette, so this gives you the chance to customize in an image editor with some powerful palette editing features and be more selective with your tile import.
When I drag the pixel art into magicavoxel instead of showing the attach, erase etc its just shows the layers. How can I bring back those other things?
JackityCarver128 this is a new default behavior in MagicaVoxel. Instead of dropping the pixel art into your current object, it’s creating a new object. Press tab to enter the currently selected object (by default the new pixel art object will be the one selected). You can press tab to jump back and forth between object mode to edit the voxel models and scene mode to arrange multiple models for larger compositions.
Please note: VoxEdit does not import MagicaVoxel files with multiple objects, so you’ll have to delete the original volume that the file started with, or use the VOX export option if you plan on bringing the pixel art to The Sandbox marketplace. I have a video about moving files between different voxel programs here: th-cam.com/video/wA6j23S-1kM/w-d-xo.html
You might want to update you’re video drivers or make sure that your browser is set to use GPU acceleration to to make sure the audio doesn’t desync. You could also try lowering the video playback resolution.
Sorry I didn’t see this before. MagicaVoxel has had some updates since this was made. You might try pressing Tab to back up to the World Editor and delete the original cube. Drag the PNG into the empty space.
Hello, so MagicaVoxel won't even load my palette in :c. Do you know why this does happen? Or is there a solution for that? Thanks already :D EDIT: The files were broken. (I don't know why) So if you have got the same problem just try to save the file again or restart the program ;)
FireLord33 Glad you got it figured out. There were some changes in the latest version that I think enabled palettes from non PNG images but I may be remembering incorrectly. Always best to check the change log.
The only tool I know of off the top of my head that supports taking textures from meshes and turning them into color voxels is Qubicle. If you buy through Steam it's an added DLC - a fairly expensive tool but useful if you need to do that sort of conversion a lot. It's last update was 2017 though, so beware there might not be a lot of support left for this tool.
VoxEdit can import and export the VOX format that MagicaVoxel uses. There are also newer options to sync with MagicaVoxel allowing you to jump back and forth.
Infernex Infernex not at this time... at least not exactly. There are a few different methods depending on what software you use and what results you’re looking for. I do have a video where I briefly mention how to drop OBJ models into MagicaVoxel, which is a quick and easy way to convert, but it’s very limited: th-cam.com/video/wA6j23S-1kM/w-d-xo.html
You could use this same process for sprite sheets. Import the image to MagicaVoxel. But then you’ll want to look at the design from all sides and try to figure out how to adjust for depth. It’s a bit more complicated and requires some careful thinking and practice.
VXM is VoxEdit native. VOX is popular, semi open source, and used in most voxel programs now including MagicaVoxel, Voxel Max, Goxel, Particubes, Qubicle… and you can import and export VOX files with VoxEdit too.
This is great, but you only really need the middle tile copied 4 times. The other tiles are meant to be edge tiles which are not important to the final result.
@@Voxelize That's fair. However, since it's literally the same texture repeated there would only be variation near the edge. You would need to do variants of the middle tile to get noticeable changes.
I doubt you can do it at all with AI yet. Everything I've seen of AI trying to do actual 3D models has been absolutely unusable trash in game engines. Which is fine by me, I have fun doing this. AI can wash my dishes instead.
I haven't used Piskel before, but having just taken a look, it appears its palette files download in the GPL (GIMP Palette) format, which won't be very useful for this tutorial. You could manually draw a PNG palette strip in Piskel or GIMP, but that would be a lot of tedious work added to the whole process. I picked Aseprite since it's free, lightweight, and can easily give exactly the files you need for MagicaVoxel. GIMP might have a script to export a PNG palette from GPL as well, but I haven't really used GIMP in about 12 years.
Rabixelbit that will still work fine for making artwork you can drop into MagicaVoxel, but you’ll have to figure out a solution that works best for you to deal with the available palette. MagicaVoxel will try to pick the closest colors in the active palette. Let me know if you come up with a good method!
I sort of know how, but it’s way more complicated to do it in a paid program like Photoshop than one like the free version of Aseprite. Eventually I hope to get around to updating all my old tutorials and I’ll see if I can get the same results out of Photoshop for that. If you’re looking how to do it now, try setting the color mode to “indexed” and see what sort of options you have.
