When shopping for a chorus pedal, I have two categories that I look for. The Beatles 'Something' (I know that was a Leslie) and 80's soft rock/pop like The Pretenders and The Smiths.
I have used a NUX CH3 at $35.00 USD that is killer. Years ago NUX made a line of pedals that they discontinued years ago. In fact they are at least on their 3rd edition of pedals each edition a totally different pedal in a different casing. Yet the CH3 has weathered every change in their line which speaks well for its quality of sound etc.I once sold mine in favour of a Strymon pedal.A year later I bought the Nix CH3 for a second time. It's that good. I am sure based on the old Boss CE-2 ...now brought back as a Waza Craft.
Cloud chorus sounds good- got the right balance and not too much treble compared to the others. The Azor for simplicity. The azor sounds very close to the other sonicake. But the other sonicake offers a bit more features. They’re all great, but I guess they all offer something each player needs.
Nice!im a great fan.this is where i took all the info about affordable rig before i bought my rig.(the mosky ping spring reverb).realy helpful .thanks.this a must see video for everyone who wants to start their journey learning to compose their own signature rig.thanks a lot.Best recomendation ever.cool authentic
You were right in the last video, your notifications aren't making it to my inbox, I have to go see if you uploaded anything new. Will check back daily anyways. Cheers Ryan.
Hey Ryan, i have another comparison for you, the Sonicake 5th Dimension vs the Joyo Vision vs the Mooer Factory Mod Mk2 vs the Donner Mod Square (available direct from Donner). Would LOVE to see that shoot out!!! Keep up the awesome content!
I got the cloud chorus..... But wondering if I should have spent a bit more for the fifth dimension because of the versatility.... I think the cloud chorus just sounded spot on as a quality analog chorus for silly money. I paid $24 on sale on eBay the other day.
I initiallyu bought he Soinic dimension pedal after watching your video. Unforunately, I found the tiny knobs hard to use to get a perfect sound. I just returned it.
I'm looking for a mini-pedal for a compact pedal board. I have an EHX Epitome with the "electric mistress" that has chorus which can sound like a Leslie speaker. Their stand-alone is just a flanger, which I don't use for that sound.
I have a Kmise Phaser and tremolo and they don't pop like the Kmise analog chorus, which I thought sounded the best BTW. I think I'll get the blue chorus. I already have the Amoon chorus, which sounds much like it, but has a level control which I keep on max anyway. The Kmise would look better on my board and one less knob to think about.
I purchased one, but it behaves more like a flanger going though an envelope filter with my rig. Doesn't ring enough. Seems to round. My friend was happy when I just gave it to him. Sharing the love.
First! And you're making me spend more money, Ryan! That 5th Dimension is so sweet, I just messaged Sonicake about adding one to an order I've got with 'em.
@Clayton Salvigsen Depends on your definition of "a lot", I suppose. For my purposes, though, it works, and it's still far cheaper than comparable ones.
How could you do a chorus demo and not play "come As You Are"? Awesome video. I've been considering the Sonicake multi effects and wondering what the chorus sounds like (I'm a big chorus fan). I love your affordaboard series, no other (good) reviewers are covering these budget pedals. They're the reason I subscribed. Best wishes!
Going by the sizes, the Behringer may be the only one that can run on a battery. That said, you can buy a connector for battery to DC input. The stereo function might be worth more than the subtleties of tone for some folks too. But that Kmise is a beaut!
Agreed! Sonic wins. The features really put it over the top. I have been playing in stereo lately and so that UC200 really sparked my interest. I kept hoping that you would noon the tone on it. I think it would have rated better. Did you ever do the VD400 Delay? I'm getting one of those next. Thanks for doing these vids.
Hey Ryan - Curious: Have you ever tried making an all-Joyo afford-a-board? Like many others, I'm sure, I have become a pedal collector (mostly ODs & distortions) since COVID. I discovered the Joyo brand via Henning Pauly, and I have to say IMO they are pretty decent pedals. And I'm talking about the old school pedals, not the fancy ones with the lights (although they're nice too). I mean I think their Classic Chorus is really nice. I could definitely see myself doing an all-Joyo pedalboard. What say you?
man I wish you moved the tone knob more on the behringer and messed with the level more to help it brighten up! but thanks anyway for this! very informative
I have the Behringer. The only thing it has going for it is the stereo output. The sound is unfortunately terrible. It kind of put a bad taste in my mouth for Behringer, so I've been looking elsewhere.
@@ascendtranscend3812 If I were to pick a Boss chorus, it would have to be one of the Ensemble pedals. I'm just not personally a big fan of about half of the Boss pedals I've encountered. I do know that the Behringers are essentially Boss clones, but there has to be something sacrificed for that cheap price. Build quality exterior, yes because those are all plastic (still mostly durable unless one is a true stomper). But I'm wondering where the sound comes up short compared to Bosses (if at all). I'm still on a quest for the right affordable chorus. Haven't found it yet. Maybe it doesn't exist. I just picked up the Azor. I actually like the sound, but where it comes up short is the function. There is a horribly loud pop sound that comes out of it when clicking on. Thinking I had a defective one, I had them replace it and the same thing still happened. Anyways, that was a long story. I'm just thankful for dudes like the one in this video that actually cruises through these cheap pedals and not look down on them.
You missed one! Twinote's Analog Chorus! Dirt cheap, has a blend knob and sounds very good! Edit: I know you're just doing pedals you already have around, but just keep this one in mind in case you do cheap chorus again
When reviewing chorus pedals it should be a law you must play Purple Rain immediately. And also use the neck pickup at least once. And a single coil guitar once also. Using P90s and always on bridge is never going to show the true character of any chorus pedal imo.
Personally I liked the first one the best,, from a pure classic chorus tone that I would actually use in a song. If I can critique two things, you spent too much time making goofy sounds with some of them that no one would actually use, or only for special effects, like the speed super fast or the depth too high. Or you went the other way and it’s too mild. Maybe start with a similar setting on all of them - by ear not setting the knobs the same - and then explore the more extreme settings. Also you should have had the Behringer in mono. That’s why it sounded so different. You have to have equal volume from each amp.
Pickups have no effect on sound unless you mean single coil to p90s to humbucker.. but a cheap humbucker and an expensive seymour Duncan pickup will sound the exact same.
Geez, 14 minutes in and he hasn't had to tune yet! That never happens! :D Why are there 3 F's in the hashtagged affordaboard? P.S. I thought the character of the guitar came out best with the Azor.
I think a good Chorus should sound like how a good Champagne tastes - light, bubbly, clear, and refreshing. So, I preferred the Sonicake 5th Dimension, and the Kmise Analog Chorus. I didn't like the gimmicky features of some of the other pedals.
You should do an Afford-a-Board Pro ...I think some of the pedals already chosen would still pass as Pro but some may needed to move up to $50.00 USD perhaps even $100.00 USD
Man I just found this channel, I'm so engaged with all your videos, thanks for all the reviews, greetings from Mexico!
When shopping for a chorus pedal, I have two categories that I look for. The Beatles 'Something' (I know that was a Leslie) and 80's soft rock/pop like The Pretenders and The Smiths.
The blue Kmise sounded best but that loud popping noise is a deal breaker for me.
This video is perfectly timed -- I just ordered a Keeley Caverns 2, and might need a chorus next.
As i was listening to the Sonicake affordaboard, i looooved that chorus sound! So i'm glad they won this one :)

The blue Kmise Analog got royally robbed.

blue Kmise one has a pretty loud pop every time it’s pressed. Anyone else hear that?
When you started the KMise at noon it was instant Paradise City by GnR. Sounds good!
That was my favorite too!
i heard that too.
To me that sounded the best.

The blue kmise sounded really good. Surprised you didn’t pick that one.
That very first strum sounded lovely - 2:43
@@anglianreed5218 Paradise City
That's exactly what I was thinking of when I heard it. :)
I also thought the blue kmise sounded great
I’ve been using that Kmise chorus. I really like it.
Beringer ultra chorus is the most versatile chorus of them all for pretty much any money!
Great job on this shootout ryan !!
I appreciate your vibes in this video Ryan.

I thought the Sonicake Dimension pedal won. There are different Chorus effects on the pedal including a stereo option plus other cool stuff.
Kmise Analog Chorus for me. Sounds the same as the classic CE-2.
I know !! That’s the one I liked right off the bat!
Kmise analog chorus the best!!
I purchased one, but it behaves more like a flanger going though an envelope filter with my rig. Doesn't ring enough. Seems to round. My friend was happy when I just gave it to him. Sharing the love.
As soon as he hit the G-chord on double noon, it was instant "Paradise City", just for a moment.
@@tomshaw6373 Appreciate the note! I also thought it wasn't quite a chorus effect...

Delicious pedals
I have the ultra chorus and I find it pretty subtle
Glad I watched this one. I was looking for a phaser and chorus and I think the 5th Dimension will suit my needs. Thanks dude-man! Keep a-rocking!
I am a chorus junkie and own/have owned dozens over decades. I prefer Sonicake core tone over any other chorus ever made, regardless of cost.
cool, i need a chorus pedal
One thing I hate are Chafing Scratchy sounding Chorus pedals.
Agreed with SONICAKE being the winner here but the AZOR was the best chorus. Just not very adaptable other than it's best setting.

my 2nd pick would be the Classic Chorus with the Fist Punch

MXR 234 is prob my fav chrous it has real special quality to it not sure why
I vote for the Cloud or Azor, but the Cloud has a toggle switch for the edge IMHO.
Whould you say the kmise blue pedal is better then the ammoon chores pedal?
How many pedals do you have now Ryan? Lol
Don't buy the cloud chorus. A lot of the time they don't work out of the box (lights up but no effect.)
