As someone who is almost 75 years old I don't have as much time to wait for 'Dune Messiah'.... so please, please get on with it, thank you. From an ardent fan who has read ALL the books several times over!
I want Mr.Villeneuve to take his time when adapting the massive and epic Messiah. Doing a screenplay for that book is a daunting task. Like Miss Ferguson and Taylor-Joy said, there is a lot that has to go into this adaptation, and rushing will do no good. As long as the film doesn't take six years to make. I will be happy when it comes.
I'm like legit insanely excited by the chance to see RAMA as directed by Denis. I hope bro takes a break--he deserves it. Love the idea of him casually just dropping another watershed scifi adaptation (this time, Isamov) just as a little vacay before getting back into the DUNE 3 slalom. Denis is rapidly becoming my GOAT.
Also hoping the traps so common to sequels are avoided. If Villeneuve's appetite for Dune is a bit spent, I say let's just savor the first two for now.
At most I'd wait patiently if there is only one movie between part 2 and messiah, which would be around 6 years most. Going longer would just ruin my patience entirely.
Even as a STAUNCH defender of Avatar waiting-fatigue became ambivalence and I never actually got to watch Avatar2... was no longer 'invested'. An active franchise needs boots on the ground, not pie in the sky.
A few comments. 1) I'd like to see Villenueve tackle Taylor Sheriden's third (if I recall correctly) SIcario movie. Definitely a small movie by comparison. 2) Villenueve has already compressed the timeline in Dune2, so the 12 year gap is perhaps suggestive and not definitive. 3) as another comment has suggested--I'm not that excited about Cleopatra, and frankly not particularly excited about Rama either. So, my $0.02 do SIcario 3 and the get back to Dune Messiah and solve the Channi character.
If they didn't have "Dune 3" ready to roll it would have been grand if the last movie ended with a closer vibe to the book. I mean Chani was so upset she's still riding off on that worm!!
There was a great what if . Nuclear war ( the day after) it was a massive tv event in the 80s scared people to death. Very unpleasant but essential viewing I remember two British things. One was an animated film , two elderly people trying to survive, the old man following all the recommended survival advice. Doesn't end well and think the beginning of up. Except she/ he die in the end .( sorry spoilers) but its a nuclear apocalypse .
It would be incredibly hard to make Dune Messiah without heavy changes. It would be great to merge it with aspects of Children of Dune. Otherwise I doubt there is enough meat to do a film just on Messiah.
Childrens way too big though. I think messiah could work maybe with an extended prologue where he shows some of the holy war. But people want big action and messiah wont really do it for them, until the end maybe with some edits. I would love it though
I don’t think he will ever make Messiah. Someone else will, and could be for the better…maybe. Cameron had Battle Angel sitting on his desk for many years before he passed it on to Rodriguez, who did a good job in the end.
Im fine if they make certain changes for Messiah. A huge expectation has been made, so perhaps including a bit of a Fremen civil war as the climax would be fine. As long as they keep most of the conflict political and internal. The very end probably will be about the same, since Villeneuve described the ending of Messiah to be one of his favorites, so that is a good sign. As long as he has the twins be born (allowing for somebody to adapt Children of Dune), and Paul does his walk, then I'll be good.
Thanks Elaine. If they can make game of thrones court politics interesting and have battles I mean there is no reason it couldn't be as big . Showing the war Or paul direcing the war from his keep If they used the encyclopedia he and chain leave with the fedykin the biggest battle of the war . And its mentioned in messiah. The victory upsets his enemies. Eddric is agitated . The book has a 9 mouth time line or a little longer.
The more time that passes the less likely the third movie will ever get made all the actors will have new projects! It’s hard to to get lots of people on the same page
It is weird that Timothee and Zendaya haven't been announced to be cast in anything films. Josh and Austin have been cast in like 2 movies. Austin's character is dead so he is free to work on anything he likes. And Josh seems like he has small supporting roles in his next films. Nothing that will take up too much time or overlap into Messiah's schedule. But nothing for Dune's leads??? After T's current film and Z I think is doing another Spider-Man movie. But nothing planned after those projects.
Sounds more like 2028 before he returns to Arrakis. Especially with these other projects he wants to do (or has to do). If he continues to be successful on balance, the third Dune movie should be astounding. The Studios will give him anything he wants by that time most likely. Great video.
I'm not excited at all by a Dune 3! However, I wouldn't be surprised if Denis Villeneuve next project is the adaptation of "Annie Jacobsen: Nuclear War" book which would make a very, very good movie in his hands. 🤞🤞
Seems like dune franchise holds a special place amongst the pop culture zeitgeist. It should and must take the reins at sci-fi space opera genre. Star wars is pretty much irrelevant now. Dune will be the hottest commodity in the town.
2:28 huh... doesn't look like Cleopatra like it needs sandy yellow background, some pyramids and she needs to be wearing more golden egyptian garb. She just looks like some random medieval nobel not EGYPTIAN QUEEN like did egyptians really have hairnets with pearls and stuff?
Nerd Cookies, Thanks for another great video! 👍👍👏 Cleopatra, Nooooooooooo! "Rendezvous with Rama" could be very interesting, but not a lot of action in the novel; not sure a movie would attract a big audience.
If Dennis' goal of doing a project away from dune is to happen that could be anywhere from. 2-5yrs duration then however long it would take to make dune 3 which could be 2-3yrs so in theory a max of about 8yrs till dune 3 could be sooner 🤷
Would a big star be willing to do what Paul did in Masiah? Based on what I hear, Cleopatra is already misscastes. Rama may be good but the book is a rich story that does not lend itself to check the box casting.
As difficult as Dune (book one) was to adapt, it at least followed a somewhat typical "Hero's Journey" structure. Dune Messiah is a lot slower, and weirder, with a lot of the narrative tension happening via internal dialogue. We know Villeneuve is not a big narration guy, so I really wonder how he plans to approach this story. P.S. Peter Dinklage seems like the obvious choice to cast as Bijaz, but it could also be a good opportunity for another actor within the community
Future Dune projects should be series. With a GoT budget this will allow it to explore the lore and ideas more in my opinion. High budget films are too risky and exhausting these days
If there's anybody that can adapt the Ender's Game Universe books, it's Denis. Sadly I don't think it's ever going to get a good adaptation, even though I thought that Gavin Hood adaptation was pretty good. The design for the Formics was exactly how I envisioned it in my head
Personally, my expectations on Dune Messiah are much higher than they were for Dune part 2, which kinda left me unsatisfied. Mind you it was the second best Dune movie ever made (after Dune part 1), but as I said from the start, Dune should have been three movies. Too much was left out and I didn't buy the magic tricks that made the sudden changes to Paul and Jessica. Messiah however is a big story with a lot of shocks in it. It's going to happen, you can't wait long with that many in demand actors. Anyone with half a brain would seize the opportunity to drop everything and go all out until the Dune saga is finished. I bet they even shot some scenes already for Dune part 3 while shooting Dune part 2.
I don’t think they will move forward with the Dune series. The Story is good but it’s not as cinematic with big action scenes. It’s more story driven than action. Sadly that doesn’t sell tickets anymore.
Honestly after what he did with Chani in the second movie I don't even care to see a third. Seems like he totally missed the point of the end of the book: "That woman over there will be my wife and you but a concubine because this is a political thing and we must weld peace out of this moment" Paul - “Do you know so little of my son?” Jessica whispered. “See that princess standing there, so haughty and confident: They say she has pretensions of a literary nature. Let us hope she finds solace in such things; she’ll have little else.” A bitter laugh escaped Jessica. “Think on it, Chani: that princess will have the name, yet she’ll live as less than a concubine-never to know a moment of tenderness from the man to whom she’s bound. While we, Chani, we who carry the name of concubine-history will call us wives.” Chani in this movie acted like a petulant child throughout the entire thing, and their chemistry was non-existent. Even how Villeneuve changed how Chani viewed her nickname from Usul - Sihaya. The movie lost me there.
