Thank you for sharing your journey. I have four boys as well, 12, 11, 8 and 3. My second one seems like he learns like your second one. I enjoy watching your videos! 😀 Rebecca
I really enjoyed your video. been thinking hard about Language Arts for my ADHD boy who will be in 6th next year. Do you think Masterbooks would be a good curriculum for ADHD? I’m also seriously considering The Good and the Beautiful, but I’m afraid to overwhelm him. Thank you for any advice. 😄
My 1st question would be has he had any exposure to LA? Winston Grammar may be a good intro. But I am starting to think FIX IT. One sentence a day🤗. I have never used TGTB but for my own self it looks overwhelming 🤷🏻♀️ I would start with baby steps. I do really encourage you to pray about it! With Fix IT it will build slowly over the years. 😉❤️🙏 Please keep in mind these are my own perspectives and you know your child best!!
I tried TGATB with my ADHD son last year (5th grade). Overall, I really liked it. But it was too visually overwhelming for my son, and he strongly disliked it. This year we’re doing IEW S & S, Fix It grammar, and CLE Reading. So far, it’s the best combination we’ve tried. Good luck to you! Language Arts is a tough one, and there are so many options!
What did you use with an ADHD son who struggles with spelling and physically with writing for English we have zero high school English credits right now because I just stopped doing full load and he only has science and math credits really which is what he enjoys and more excels and understandS
This is definitely a challenge and it takes a little firmness and a lot of love!! I think what helped him is that he did take a co-op class for composition and there did use some of IEW. The next year we did a little bit more IEW and his Sr year he did an online dual credit. For my son and I think from what I am hearing others it is challenging because they do understand more that they will let you know. Maybe trying IEW level C and using it over 2 years. Starting off small in the writing helps and maybe even have him writing about his interest. By writing I mean typing 😉 . You could start by having him do a paragraph overview of what he liked most about science that week.
How about jumping up and down on one leg 5 times. Read a few paragraphs, switch legs, jump 5 times, read a bit more. However, have them summarize what they just read while jumping. If they didn't get it repeat the passages again. And so on. This is different, but it uses their energy, and you are doing school work at the same time. It's a different way to focus. Also, this helps with testing.
We used BJU more often than Abeka. We tried Abeka when my oldest was in 4th and it confused both of us and we dropped it. With BJU we did use videos, but i easily could have taught it myself. I know this doesn’t help you much, but it has been so long i don’t think i could give a true comparison 😉
You are so genuine 😍 thank you 🙏
❤️
Had never heard of the $99 BJU sale. Wow, thanks for the info!
Thanks for watching!! To be clear, I have not seen that deal in a few years, and I have checked☺️❤️

My boys are young but I also have 4 of them!! 6, 4, 2, 1
exciting times❤️🙏
What are the differences between bju and abeka's language in your opinion?

We tried BJU English 5. The grammar moved too fast for my kids.
Good to hear another perspective!! I am sorry it didn’t work!❤️
I don’t think we ever used one beyond 4th grade🤔
What do you use now?
We have used Shurley English and Winston Grammar in the elementary years. I just started IEW fix it with my sixth grader😉
😊
