I bought two yesterday. Good to know they only grow 5mm per year and will outlive me. Thanks for the video. It's very helpful for me who know completely nothing about Moss Balls. Cheers.
They're also surprisingly DENSE, I didn't know they were actual balls, I thought they were like a moss covered plastic ball that people made by hand but there 100% algae xD
I just subscribed to your channel yesterday. I like how you get right to the point. The amount of enthusiasm you show really keeps me interested during the whole video. Keep doing what you. I’ll be looking forward to the next video.
This is so helpful, thank you! I've got two moss balls, both of which are looking dingy after a couple of months in a tank with a betta and tetras. Now I know what to do to perk them up!
I just bought a Marino moss ball yesterday and wondering how to care for it, don’t want it to turn brown or anything, so thanks for the info. Well made video 👍
I seem to come across your videos at the perfect time. I've watched 2 today that were right on time! Your content is not like others, you are a great visual teacher. Thank you for sharing your knowledge 😎
I recently received Marimo in the mail but being in the desert heat caused them to be a little dingy and brown. Thanks for the tips, they are doing well and my fancy goldfish will love them!
I just got one as I keep shrimp in my tank and they love feeing off them. Thanks for the advice I didn’t know you had to keep them in the fridge every so often.
Thank you for the tips! Been searching for alternatives to the salt treatment to care for my marimo. Putting them in the fridge rn 😊 looking forward to recharged & happy moss balls!
Omg...Thank you Soo much for this info. I've just removed mine from my Aquarium. It's a mess. I usually rinse and clean it during water changes. I never heard of cleaning and adding water, and into the Fridge. I will "definitely, give this a try. "Hopefully, I will see Green again. Thank's! Such Great Info.❤😊
Thank you, I keep a nano vase, soil and one plant. Added three 1" Marimo balls to it, and a couple to my small guppy tank. Doing well so far! Thanks for advice about the fridge.
I was moving across the country in the winter and left my moss in a glass water bottle by accident in my car overnight. It froze solid. I left it just to see what happened and… It loved it.
I use to have moss balls in my tanks but moved on from keeping them. I use to tear them in half or thirds and make like a little "carpet" for my shrimp (flatten moss out)and you could put small pieces (mold to shape) on driftwood branches. My shrimp loved them.
@@MagicallyMusical they don't die if you tear them, they're very resilient. If you roll them back into a ball and secure it with a bit of string they recover pretty quickly.
I live in a warm climate and the room I want to keep them(as decoration no fish/animals) and during the summer it gets quite hot, if I do that once a week will it be fine, would it be helpful to keep a thermometer, and drop ice if the temperature gets too high?
Btw something you didn't say, make sure you don't compact them to much as the middle needs a little light to, if it's to tight it will rot from the inside
I just received mine a few days ago.No it not in a tropical tank .Now that I know it ok to have a betta in the tank with it . I'm going to get me another fish they are so beautiful I love them. Thanks for sharing.
I have one of these things and I had no Idea what it was... everything in the tank died but that so I felt bad packing up the tank so I just moved it to my basement... I put water in it once a month or so and forget he was in there... well long story short is I am getting all my tanks back up and running again and there he was in my little 5 gallon tank filled up with alge and untouched for for 2 or 3 years.... he looks great! Still green but a bit bigger... so I finally found something I can not kill!
I.. Kinda like to run the tank on max flow on my betta and the java loaches move them around I started with two small ones now I have about four miss shapened ones that are pretty large
I am having a problem with one of my marimo balls. I had four of them in my corydora tank. They were doing well. I took the biggest one out to put in my goldfish tank. I thought it would do well in there. After about a week I noticed a big brown spot. I tried to clean it by pulling the loose brown stuff off and put it back in my corydora tank. Is there anything I can do to help it to do well again. Should I do the fridge idea at this point? Or is it too late to save it?
would it be beneficial or harmful if i were to keep a glass of tap water in the fridge and when i notice the water too warm, change it out with the cold tap water?
So I just bought some Marimo moss balls they had near the Bettas at PetSmart. I quarantined and cleaned them, but I noticed that they don’t feel like I thought they would. There’s no ball in the middle, and no seam but the green hairs feel more stiff and pokey than I thought they would. Should they feel this way? Or have I accidentally bought some made of fiber glass?
i have one , well two i cut it in half got it just over a year ago looks just like when i got it nice and green i stopped trying to place them because the corys all ways move them around , the shrimp keep them clean , i do at times add some salt (not much) temp is set at 78 i use kent and seachem plantfood and all is well , thanks for the vid didnt know it was a ball of algae , learn something everyday
Also curious, what do you think of people splitting their moss balls to create new ones? I’m super new to having moss balls in my tank. So any tips are appreciated!
Thanks for the info! I had ordered some mossballs online to throw in my tanks as well as just to keep as pets on their own & one of them arrived looking more olive green than dark green & I was worried about it not getting enough light. Since there's nothing in the bowl it's in besides a fake plant & a mermaid ornament, I'll try putting it in the fridge & see if that'll revive it. :D
I've had my moss ball for about 1 and a half months. I bought it for my Betta tank after watching TH-cam videos about Betta care.... It seems to be fine. When I do a water change I squeeze the moss ball and then just leave it alone.... Is that fine for it? It's only been a month and a half but I kill plants normally..... 😣
Hey! This is a warning if you don’t know already! I recommend you destroy the moss balls as soon as possible! An invasive species call zebra mussels were found in many of them worldwide. They are known to cause major water problems and are very destructive to the environment. If you want more info you can read here: www.fws.gov/fisheries/ans/zebra-mussel-disposal.html www.usgs.gov/news/invasive-zebra-mussels-found-pet-stores-21-states If you want to know how to destroy them read here: www.mass.gov/service-details/help-stop-the-spread-of-zebra-mussels I advise you to do a little more research in this and then you can decide wether you want to destroy them or not. This is not meant to scare but to inform. I only want the environment to remain safe. Hope this helps and I hope you and your fish tank stays safe!
I recently bought 4 medium size and 1 nano for 10 dollars. They sit in three of my betta aquariums and for now I believe in good health. I use led lamps to light throughout the day and switched them of at midnight and turned them back again in the morning. Is led light sufficient?
I got 11 so far for my 15 gallon betta tank .. some of them I got are partially ripped, I dont know if they will be good or if I should exchange them. How often should I pull them out, clean them and put them in a fridge? one a week or once every two weeks? Ps: Amazing video! Thank you!
I just got my moss ball today his name is Grool. It is so cute. I notice you said that you can put them in the refrigerator for a vacation. But can you just put ice into the water? Just like a couple of cubes?
My beta tank creates quite a bit of algae. Since Marimo moss balls are a different kind of algae, will it kill the ugly green stuff on the glass and substrate?

Yes. They'll last as long as you live if you don't kill them haha
