The criticism is justified. Football is a beautiful game, but not when Gareth is the manager. With the players we have, we can play the way Spain do. And we can play the game the way Klopp and Guardiola play it -- on the front foot! George Graham was called boring for a reason. Gareth's strategy is to win on penalties -- that's dross and uninspiring. Football is an entertainment business. What's exciting about passing backwards and sideways, and playing with 9 defenders in a low-block? Kane spends most of his time playing as a centre-back. Saka crossed the ball into the penalty area at least three times, and there was no one on the end of it.
Sigh. The argument about Southgate making so many semis or whatever completely lacks the context that Southgate has both ridden the wave of fortunate draws, and the re-structuring in English football since 2010 that’s led to a massively successful youth team and lots of players suited to international football.
The clear lack of a coherent system on the pitch this tournament, obviously unbalanced, dour reactive management relying on great players having to wing it to barely scrape past average opposition is why people don’t trust Southgate. It’s even more frustrating that he keeps harking back to England’s past failures as a reason why England need to be so cautious and pragmatic. He keeps setting the bar so low with performances and expectations 8 years after we can all see England are good enough with personnel now to play like a major nation and not like a nation with no resources hanging on desperately for a lucky moment.
England have never had better resources through the National team’s structural pyramid, and yet a manager at the senior level with less ambition. Just wait until England hire a manager and coaching team with ambition, and watch how they ease through these types of games in the future without much trouble.
I understand your exasperation completely. But most of the people who don’t get us are probably those who just get involved when a big tournament is on. Funnily enough I’m very confident we will get past Netherlands. But if we do then there will be no stopping the Saint Gareth brigade regardless of the result in the final.

What's with the rewriting history? England were not a better team than Croatia in 2018 or France in 2022 (though they were unlucky in the actual game vs France). Italy in 2021 was more of a toss up, but they were on an impressive unbeaten run at the time.

Germany , Romania Turkey Spain provided some excitement. We’ve been awful to watch tbh. Considering the talent we’ve got . Yeah well done for getting into semi’s last game was better . We can go one more and be more adventurous in our play. Get the balance right make harder decisions . Play Foden in his right positions, Should have bought a fit left back. Use the subs more proactively we’ve got a good squad trust them. Use different tools . Gordon, The likes of Trent in his proper position. Kane looks unfit. Play Toney, Ollie Watkins give the opposition different problems
England have been the most boring by far. Getting this far well done, but its been purely by luck, and that the teams they have faced haven't played well in the games. I think its about to change tomorrow night.

Apart from the first 30 minutes of the first match, England have been playing a kind anti-football. It’s bizarre. They have the players, but they can’t seem to gel as a team and just get down to playing some decent football.

We have done well in tournaments due to the institution of football in england producing good players .ie the level of training and investment etc its why our younger teams have won world cups and do well also....with a better maanger we would have won trophies already
Although we are in the semi did anyone think our amount of shots on target was worth real praise.the euros have not been great for any teams bar a few. watching the copa america it's like chalk and cheese most of those teams would beat the european teams at the moment,it's exciting to watch, fantastic quality from most of the teams in it.will a euro team the world cup I don't think so

I disagree, apart from Argentina, Uruguay, Venezuela and Ecuador the rest of the South American and North American teams have been woeful. Bolivia were an embarrassment, USA, Mexico, Jamaica would not beat the majority of the teams at the Euros.

The new presenter must do some research, she quotes Italy, Spain and France, how many Euros or World Cups have they won when compared to England. Why can’t the English media understand a manager has to learn to take criticism. Jamie is right.

Comment about how Gareth has taken England to more semi-finals than all the other managers combined is irrelevant - that's the same argument that keeps Harry Kane & Phil Foden on the pitch when clearly their performances in this tournament have not warranted it.

The truth is, talksport have been one of the worst propagators of bullying and criticism of the staff and players, constantly moaning, picking, criticising, and encouraging others to do the same.
This doesn't support the team, it does the opposite. So thank you talksport and other media, and loads of fans, for creating an environment in which players feel that negative pressure.
It is about time it stopped.
Supportiing and backing the team, making them feel ten feet tall will get much better results than the opposite.
No team has the right to win every game, to play beautiful football, and we all know England have done very little of that for a long time.
