  • Yatagarasu was developed by PDW:HOTAPEN, a small, japanese indie game development team comprised of three former SNK / King of Fighters developers. They are currently working on the new version of Yatagarasu, Attack on Cataclysm.
This game is one that I believe is fun, fair, and shows potential for a large and strong community. The new version will be released on Steam and have GGPO netcode, which already mitigates a lot of the issues that most smaller fighting game communities have. I am making these tutorials in the hope that you will join those of us who are excited for Attack on Cataclysm, and maybe even pick up the current version to get a head start!

Looking forward to Yatagarasu release! These vids were great learning material. I had dabbled with an earlier version but mostly just looking forward to the one releasing this year (hopefully?).

Fantastic video as always, this was more helpful than I thought would even be possible.

You could increase your parry window in 3s as well. If you let go of F or D within a few frames the window was a lot longer, and if you held it the window would cut off early.

Great video, it explains everything except for the basic purpose of parrying. For the people that never played 3rd strike, what does parrying do? The video implied that it negates damage, but what else does it do? I guess you get frame advantage? Does the advantage depend on the move your parrying? Or do you always get +5 frames or something?

Game looks great. I have a few questions about the mechanics that I don't think you mentioned:
    1. Does attempting an air parry negate the trip guard when you land like when you miss an air attack?
    2. Does the damage scaling reset after a stun like in 3rd strike? I understand you can't stun from a combo, but after the stun is inflicted and they are in juggle state, do the hits from the juggle count toward the the damage scaling on the free stun combo?
    3. I noticed that in the previous video, when you punished an air parry attempt with what I assume was the Grappler's HP, the other character bounced off the ground for a juggle instead of going straight up. Is this significant in any way and are there any other situations/moves that cause it?
Apologies if you've answered these in the videos. You were very informative and thorough but it was still a lot to take in. Great videos and I look forward to more.

      1) no
      2) if you juggle someone after a stun, that is all included in the combo after they get up dizzy as well. It is all one combo and the scaling does not reset.
      3) Some characters have access to a "ground-bounce" move in their BL Counter combos. (Chadha's HP, Hanzo's j.HK, Hina's db, qcf, uf+P special, Hina can do her ground-bounce without a BL Counter)

so, because the recovery windows for parries are distinct, you could effectively press both at the same time after you get knocked down and that would stop them from trying any meaty attacks?

No. Pressing both parries at the same time produces no parry attempt. IF you were to press one and then the other, then you would be able to parry low-then-high or vice versa, but you cannot attempt to parry both zones at once.
