Too many people shy away from discussing money unless they are trying to talk you into buying their course on “How to make $$$!!!”. This is great content and I vote for you to keep it up.
Thanks! Usually if someone's charging you money to tell you how to make money, they're not very good at making money in the way they're teaching you in the paid course - otherwise they'd just be doing that instead of selling you the course. This is something anyone can do and has a huge, gigantic market - happy to share :)
@@Corter great video! I really enjoy watching you make stuff as you discuss different topics. Will you share with us where you sources your magnesium stamps?
Here's a tip for bag making: make a shallow hole somewhere on your bench to fit exactly the bottom die of your rivet setter. Then get a couple of rivet setting punches from buckleguy and voila, you can set rivets anywhere on a panel or hide of leather (because that benchtop rivet setter only has a small depth)
That buckle guy press is a godsent. I love mine. I had a bought a little wonder press first and just spent too much time trying to dial the thing. I ended up sending it back buying this cheaper press and being way happier. It just works. Sets things straight every time.
Really appreciate that you made this video. A great insight & very informative. I would like to see more of this kind of thing from you. So far I'm doing everything by hand & contemplating making the jump from hobby leather maker to small enterprise. I've had more & more requests for products (I only do small things as I dont have the "heavy equipment"). I am about to invest in equipment, but here in the UK we just dont have the access to the goodies you have in the US. I will get there. Well, I best get back to the Xmas orders I have had in. Thank you for sharing some of your business acumen its greatly appreciated.
Yeah, and the import duties play havoc with initial cost too. But, check out the Southern Leather Company [SLC] nonetheless and via email ask them about process to get things into England.
@@kristi94 As beginner there is no need for high end tools. Develop your abilities and see what you use most, then if finances allow CAREFULLY purchase high end tools. Whew, I'm glad you clarified everything in the end of the video because for a while there I thought you were leading people down the primrose path. Hi Corter Leather. I know many others have asked, will you share you stamp maker please? I don't understand how to properly size the artwork from the BG die you are using to send to a maker if I have to source my own. Thanks for all the sweet videos!
Once again thank for the inside information at the end of the business, it's very helpful, but where do you get you dye cut and stamp made. Do I have to check in the state I live in to find it for myself. please advices us on that, and the cost for a small one to a bigger on like let say a bag. keep the video coming. thank you.
This video leaves me with more questions than answers, where can I get customized split rings made, where do you get custom dies made? If you're going to make a video like this you need to link where all the parts come from not just those from your sponsor....
Our sponsor makes our custom split rings tho haha. We've been working with them for 10 years before working with them in a sponsor form, we have a whole video about it :)
How do you factor in the cost of the custom die? You menioned the cost of leather, rivets, and split rings, but do you charge a set up front fee to get the custom die made for each order?

Hey, ive seen your leather piping video. But i really want to make a bag that is inspired to the LV Pochette Kassak bag, which requires 360 degrees leather piping. I was wondering how you would tackles this problem
You didn't count your time to acquire the stamps or the depreciated cost of the tooling. Those hidden cost are going to change the actual time per hour cost.
I do, in the end I talk about how you're not going to be making $100 an hour 8 hours a day every day because you've got to take into account all of the back end work you're not getting paid for. However I think depreciation is kind of a moot point on a $200 press that will set enough rivets to make you a million dollars in profit before it even thinks of giving up the ghost :)
I don't sell leather craft but I would start with setting up an Etsy shop or similar. I would also try to get a stand at different markets. Perhaps contact wedding arrangement agencies and ask if they want to collaborate and have keychains or whatever you're selling as part of a package.
@@Tashyncho-Sapa The idea was that the agency would hand them out as gifts to the wedding attendees, maybe stamped with bride & groom + date.
