this was a great mission to play LAST, and anyone just starting should consider leaving it until at least the end of the main story. I beat the whole campaign before moving on to the challenges, (only 2 challenge missions at the time of my playthrough) and "knights in power armor" is absolutely punishing if you play it the way you played 99% of the main missions. it was a fun curveball and i had to lose about 3 times before i took a step back and switched up my playstyle. my only cryptic hint for anyone about to start it is "think heinlein, not verhoeven" honestly this game had a small handful of missions like that, most of which did a good job of keeping a very repetitive game (mechanics wise) feeling fresh.
Got it first try due to the Royal Guard just deciding to ignore my Howitzer Mech at the end. I really though id get reinforcements if I cleared out the middle. (I did not get any tho)
Since only 3 power troopers available, i always upgraded them with two rocket and one engineer, and prioritize having howitzer mech at first to fight that annoying scorpion bug
I was very surprised the howitzer marauder was able to hit like it did. Also for some reason the royal guard just lost interest and let me get shots in. Overall a pretty difficult map.
@@darkshadowdb I managed to figure it out. Finished the mission without losing anyone. After you get to the second Marauder pad instead of continuing around the right side of the map, go back around the left towards the third Marauder pad and clear that out. Once you have 3 Marauders the last hive where all of the Scorpions pop out becomes much easier to manage. Your infantry can level up to engineers and you can repair the Marauders on the fly.
This is a mix universe between the movies, animated TV series and the recent straight to Blue Ray CGI movies, only loosely related to the books. It is also satire from the get go and the rest is reimagined.
@@OGSpaceMarine As you said, they where on a budget, but at the same time, the 1998 SST movie was a satire of authoritarianism, militarism and all those tropes, hence why they went with massed infantry battles, instead of the mech suits they have on the book. Again, that movie (on which this game is based) mostly only takes some aspects of the original books and ignores others. In the books, the Arachnids are still a hive mind, but they have technology as well. Eventually, even the movie only verse eventually gives us the Marauders (in one of the worse movies I have ever seen) and those are the ones depicted here. Furthermore, the 3D animated anime movies of the mid 2010's all have power suits and even more powerful marauders, so they are closer to the books while also being a continuation of the movie verse and being depicted in this game as the power suit troopers, so eventually we do get back to the books, just in a roundabout way.

But the "current" iteration of this story is the one primarily based on the 1998 movie of the same name and this game and other games and possibly future media it appears are going to be part of a mixed universe, that combines the 1998 movie (and its 2 sequels), the 3D animated TV series, SST Roughencks and the 3D animated movies, picking and choosing parts of each and incorporating them all into a single combined universe. I for one like this to the degree that we get more SST, but I admit the book source is far better on many fronts.

Mech suits were in the beginning of the novel but they are still going to act like they weren’t 🙄
