  • Join us LIVE from Sotheby's New York for The Emily Fisher Landau Collection: An Era Defined Evening Auction.
The result of decades of inquiry and curiosity, the Emily Fisher Landau Collection is synonymous with connoisseurship and quality, and also speaks to Mrs. Fisher Landau’s voracious and instinctive approach to collecting.
The sale is led by superb examples from the greatest artists of the 20th century, highlighted by Pablo Picasso's Femme à la montre, Ed Ruscha's Securing the Last Letter (Boss), Jasper Johns' Flags, and Mark Rothko's Untitled, as well as exceptional examples by Andy Warhol, Mark Tansey, Robert Rauschenberg, and Glenn Ligon.

Brilliant auction. I applaud to Oliver Barker for his dignified presentation. For me the highlights were two muted grey paintings, one by Cy Twombly, "Untitled", and the other, Agnes Martin's early and rare masterpiece, "Grey Stone II". The Tansey, like Richter, questioning the impossibility of picturing in our modern age.

It'd be an amazing feeling to be in the room, next to people that are bidding and paying $10+M for their personal collections.

The Georgia O'Keefe is wonderful, bought directly from her, the provenence could not be more impeccable. Do not understand at all a gray Nothingness of barely visible stratification - I squinted and willfully glazed over my eyes, thinking I could see Mother Teresa?Yul Brenner?a cenotaph of the artist and just kept coming up empty! But what do I know? A Boston artist or Gallery owner will have to explain it to me, the huge $ needed to purchase it. Thank you for a great short video and the large painting of a male figure in the quarry? is a fantastic peon to Ann Rand, and that is the one for me if I had $8 million. (There's a wonderful curator and Director of the Gloucester, MA - Cape Ann Museum, named Oliver Barker, is this Sotheby's presenter and elegant auctionneer the same?) Thanks for sharing what's coming up on the block these days, but I'm beginning to wonder if H.Biden really has always been talented and unique with colors, because Agnes Martin's "Stone ll" is worse than studying the granite outcrop on our beach, and never looking at the bay, or looking for holes in an old pc.of Chinese white silk...wish I could paint something like that and be so appreciated people would bid it up to incredible amounts of cash.🤷🫣🙋

Paying thousands for a painting does not automatically make it art.

There are low riders that are more beautiful than the Mona Lisa but if you’re Picasso or Rembrandt and you can sell your soul and then it can be considered a Art. There are people in churches that sing better And write better songs than Bob Dylan but they didn’t sell their soul. You could be the greatest rock ‘n’ roll band of all time by saying I love you yeah yeah yeah . Just sign the contract😊 not really I’m just fucking with you😂

Just because it's art, doesn't mean you have to like it. Calling something "art" isn't a value judgement.

Can someone explain how faint almost colorless horizontal bands on a canvas by Agnes Martin is worth over $4,00,000? People are fools.

Please watch Christie's auctions to learn how this painful sale of precious art should be done. How can you show a work for sale without date of creation, dimension, materials used? I seriously question the authenticity of the work. It reads like a garage sale. As an artist, I am left feeling angry and sad.

That Picasso made me feel slightly nauseated. And Mark Tansey? Rich people are still buying that stuff?

ive never seen a more soulless collection of overrated scribblings in my life. It's more like non-art than art, more communist pretension than spontaneous creativity. When you can make a picture using a typewriter, that is not art. It is crap. But even If they had one of Picasso's turds up for sale, Oliver would still say, 'A wonderful wonderful object.'

Oh Sweetie - after you die, no one will care. But many of these masterpieces will still be highly prized parts of our culture and enjoyed by many in both public museums and private collections. Total. Overhyped. Rubbish = you.

It's almost sinful in a way, because - not being sure, of course even the most up-to-date gallery owner in my neck of the woods would think that Grey Stone ll was a glued on napkin, Damascene, maybe but still, $millions?!!
