      Driving at night is very hard and so easy to fall asleep at the wheel.

    Ahh, Rochester, close around 4am, dont open until 9am. I found that out when i rocked up at 5am, first there, got my head down for a few hours.

    • @rookietrucker1968
      @rookietrucker1968  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Is that still happening then, spoils what could be a perfect job, also idle time, pick up empty trailer, drive 5 miles and wait 6 hours for loaded trailer with critical departure time...

      @@rookietrucker1968 Yeah, thats the only downside, the waiting around. Only passed just before xmas and started this in the new year. Easy work otherwise and im enjoying it, racking up the hours and experience.

      @@Glenn7719 that's how i felt but now that i am doing general haulage the real challenges begin, single track country lanes, impossible looking turns, you really then start to learn how to handle this machines, i am always shattered now with 60+ hours per week and different start and finish times. i would like to go back to Amazon if they sorted out all the downsides of the job... keep it going mate you have done the hardest part of finding a job after a pass...

      @@rookietrucker1968 Thats it, i am fine where i am for the time being, not confident enough yet to do all that what you described. Around my 2nd week in around 2am, road closure, like you get at night, on my way down to Littlehampton, was a stormy Sunday night, really windy, and i came across a fallen tree blocking a country lane. I had to reverse the thing a good 400 yards and lucky for me, there was a fuel station i managed to turn round in. It could've been a lot worse, as some places there would be nowhere to turn around for miles. Had a few similar situations, but kept my cool and got through it. Its all part of the learning curve.

    Did you move onto a new company or stop Class 1 driving in full?, if it was the former, what company are you with now?, if you left the industry, what was the thing that pushed you to leave so soon after getting the licence?, was it bad management or just the waiting about you get that was the main annoying thing for you?. I am looking at getting into the industry, passed my test 20 Jan 23, but not been able to get on anywhere, due to everywhere asking for experience ot those who say "new passers welcome", never take an interview for me, which tells me "new passers are not welcome".....also I live in Manchester, so the company you worked at would be a no go for me, to try.

      I am still class 1 but with Ocado and it is a drama of a training induction, as you are in Manchester and close to the airport there is 2 Amazon hubs MAN1 and MAN2 if you hang about around there at the truck entrance you can ask drivers for contact details or prime marked vehicles will be marked on each side with contact details, each hub has multiple freight partners and that is a good starting point, apply directly...

    Hi, Ive been watching your videos for a while now, I'm contemplating going for a class 1, i was a bit worried about the drug test you mentioned because I'm on some prescription tablets (all legal) i was just wondering if these tests would flag this and would mean i would fail the test and not be allowed to work for them if they went on the test alone, not sure how these things work. any guidance would be really appreciated, congrats on the new job i hope you get to continue vlogging.

      They only test for illegal substances, best option is to speak to your doctor and if required ask for a letter, you can get your licence for free thru the government including medical, tacho card CPC and so on using the skills bootcamp... www.gov.uk/guidance/find-a-skills-bootcamp

      They don't do any drug testing on your medical, few providers of HGV medicals even do urine samples any more as they cannot diagnose diabetes from sugar in the urine, it must be done by blood. All your medical issues will be disclosed to the DVLA by your GP. Your medical provider won't even be able to access your medical records. Unless of course you pay your GP to conduct your medical (few GP's even offer it now.)
      What I'd be more concerned about is why you take the prescriptions. Any ongoing psychotic mental illness (bipolar, schizophrenia or any schizophrenia spectrum disorder) are instant refusal of HGV provisional. You need to go to a medical, take a list of all the medications you take orally and then go forward. You won't fail so long as you disclose everything. If you get into an accident on the roads, the police and your boss may run drug screenings. Some employers run random urine samples or drug wipes, even in factories on FTL if you drop a pallet you instantly get a drug test.

      P.O.A is useless. Dodgy companies will use it against you with "not hitting your contracted hours " if you are on 4 on 4 off or some don't even recognise it.
      It resets drive time after 45 minutes and you have to manually count your drive time from then onwards.
      It's either work or break.
