Baggage is right, these two are the worst case scenario to sue Disney at a vulnerable time. One who is just a actress with all the ingredients for a lawsuit, another is a celebrity CEO who will potentially upscale the stakes then take it as far as it can go based on his influence in Gina's decision. She has a solid case but Elon can make it worse for Disney and they can only gaslight and pretend this is a non-issue despite the fact that they are shady enough to have dirt on them that Gina may exploit. At this point, it's not about the money, it's about covering their asses from their reputation getting any worse than it is. Disney WAS too big to fail but somehow had the stars aligned and failed themselves in ways that defy the bounds of logic based on their persistence to pursue political agendas that has already been exposed.
The more interesting point here is justice in American is the preserve of rich men with (almost) unlimited bank accounts. The only way Gina can clear her name is when Elon rocks up with his cheque book. What is that about?
Gina was horribly treated, and to take on this giant company for her termination would have been way beyond her means. What other choice did she have but to walk away and suffer the humiliation dumped upon her? Elon, because he can, reached out and said, "I got your back." It's a dream come true. The big guy standing up for the little guy.
What will really be interesting is when this goes to court and they force Disney to disclose their assets for damages.... and the numbers don't match what they have been telling investors.
Some articles say she's suing to be re-cast. Maybe they just want to make her look bitter and desperate? She should be going after money money money and I hope that's what this is.
"controversial" several people who are in the "IN" crowd politically have said exactly what she said with zero consequences. Therefore it's not controversial.
Does Disney even have some money left to try buy off Gina Carano off court settlement after they suffer a lot of flops and money losses with their failure of movies and shows?
They're actively trying to burn at _least_ $300,000,000 on a new _Pirates of the Carribean_ they're going to give _The Little Mermaid_ treatment to, all without Johnny Depp.
That's exactly where the confidence comes from. Disney is in hellfire and pretending everything is okay for some deranged reason and continues to double down on their agenda despite the obvious financial leakage but this is a bluff and a sign of weakness so if noted figures will test waters and sue, perhaps they might succeed since they feel Disney is this delusional.

Bob: “fuck you elon, we pulling disney adverts off twitter!” Elon: “fuck you bob, ill buy disney just so i can put the disney adverts back on twitter! I mean X!”
Sad thing is that if the social media handler for Disney had left it at, "Ms. Carrano is not currently under contract with Disney, and there are no plans to put her on contract in the future," they would have been find. But the handler just had to go on and, using the Official Disney Account, describes her views as "abhorrent and repugnant." They deserve the pain that is coming.
The thing with Gina Carano is the whole thing was started by some trolls acting as the "pronoun police". She simply said she didn't want to put them in her bio. That's it.
That's some serious revisionism on Elon's take over of Twiiter. Dude made an offer for a joke, waived his right of due diligence and got forced to finish the deal by the courts. He definitely didn't want it until the lawsuit told him he did.
I watched a Razorfist stream recently, and he said that it might be smarter for Elon to buy up Disney properties like Star Wars so that they become increasingly irrelevant over the next few years. Then he can swoop in and buy the company for probably much less than he would spend now.
It’s all about the timing. The drivel coming out of the Dizney own studios isn’t drawing flies. The parks are stagnating. The losses from streaming are lessening…but still losses. This can only help Peltz.
It's not the firing that is legally a problem. You can fire anyone for any reason(unless they have an ironclad contract). You can fire them if you don't like the shoes they wear. What you absolutely can not do is slander someone you have fired and call them a bigot. That is why Disney is in trouble here.

It was my understanding that Disney simply didn't opt to renew her contract. That's a lot different than getting fired. Defamation is a different charge, but that may be harder to win. I don't like either group, frankly. Carano and Disney can walk off a cliff together as far as I'm concerned. Neither of them give two shits about me.
Well realistically any time the treatment of Jews in WW2 comes up, or especially gets used in comparison/metaphor, people get their panties in a bunch. So in that respect, I would argue that what Carano said WAS controversial. But 1) It was significantly less controversial than the similar post made by Pedro Pascal, and he didn't get fired. And 2) just because what Carano said could be considered controversial, doesn't mean it wasn't true. Also Disney's assertion that her comments were "denigrating" to minorities was a bunch of dishonest, emotionally manipulative crap. Nothing about what Carano said denigrated anybody. She just made the point that people shouldn't hate each other for their political views, and that continuing to do so could lead to worse things. Which is a perfectly reasonable opinion.

The last time he joked about buying something he brought it. In order to make it too expensive to buy the company Disney will have to start making money again which means it has to make good entertainment again. If they keep failing he'll be able to buy them. Either way Elon wins.
The US Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 bans private employers from discrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, national origin, or religion. So one cannot be fired due to race, color, sex, national origin, or religion. Other reasons are harassment or retaliation.Other than these reasons US employers can fire an employee for just about any reason. So Gina Carano has a tough case to prove and win.
Yep. It's unclear if she's suing for wrongful termination, defamation, or both. If defamation, that's a tall order when you're a public person. The quote she references is "... her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural & religious identities are abhorrent & unacceptable.”
To make matters worse, I sorely doubt that Disney-an extremely litigious corporation with a century's worth of experience in the courtroom-would have worded a statement regarding an employee's termination in a manner that exposes them to future litigation.
You could tell the Mando and Grogu movie was a hail mary pitch to try and pump investor interest. The poster looked like something any 12 year old could have made in MS paint lol.

Well if you're at home using Twitter or Facebook or even GAB what you say off the job is not your employers business. Unless you're employer is paying you 24/7 hourly wages which I doubt any company would do that. I mean even a butler has days off, so firing someone for something they said on social media is utter bullshit.
This whole situation has led to me developing some real interest & respect for Elon Musk. While I still dislike most of what he does, this push of his is looking good. To help people like Gina who have been wronged by overly powerful and corrupt companies over personal opinions. To push out the crowds that are destroying entertainment and social culture. And knowing he is a self-propelled force that cannot be bought or influenced by money. I may regret this in the future, but Godspeed you Musk.
I work for a major automotive company, their policy is if you have them as your employer on a social media site you represent them 24/7 and they will and have terminated people for things posted on FB , I don't have them as my employer on there anymore
Hope Gina destroys Disney in this and Elon and Peltz buy it cheap and finally restores it to what it used to be. Epic that they are all about women empowerment, etc and they are going to be taken down by how they terribly mistreated a woman. Only Disney could pull off such an epic fail lol.
I really hope that they do in fact push it till the end...it will have a much bigger payout if the lawsuit can damage Disney enough for a joint Musk takeover
Good on her. She was the BEST thing about the Mandalorian, and every action film she’s ever been in. God forbid she has her own mind and doesn’t conform to Disney’s ultra left wing communist ideals. I hate that company and haven’t given them a penny since they went up their own arse.
I'm no fanboy of his, but Elon is no dumby. He's a shrewd businessman and realizes the potential that Disney's IPs (Marvel, SW, etc.) has to turn serious profit if they went back to entertaining instead of their bogus culture war agenda. I hope he does get to acquire them.
I have been saying for years that Iger is tanking Disney deliberatly so he can put it in a position for hostile takeover. The assets are enormous both intellectual and physical. I would love it so much if Elon swooped in and bought it out from under Iger because Iger was greedy and wanted to get a better deal and was willing to tank it further.
Seeing how well Twitter is doing after elon took over this may be the only way to get rid of Disney forever. Seriously that man is like King Midas, only that everything he touches turns to shit XD
This is a slam dunk discrimination and defamation lawsuit. Imagine how ridiculous Disney is going to look when they have to start reading their internal emails in court.
I would argue that this is Favreau knowing that the only way to get Carano back is to have her name officially cleared. That said, Gina needs Disney to bend the knee before she’s able to come back.
Some things to consider. First of all, Gina herself was hired by Disney for woke reasons. As hot and powerful as she was in her youth, by the time she was hired for The Mandalorian, she was an overweight, middle aged soccer mom. A great many more suitable younger, fitter, better looking and better acting actresses ‘and actors’ were passed over so Disney could elevate the intersectional of someone who is female, overweight, vaguely ethnic looking or at least ‘counter white’ and middle aged. She got the role for intersectional reasons and she lost it for the same reasons. Live by the sword, die by the sword. Of course, I hope Disney get destroyed and go under but let’s not pretend that Gina got the role for her looks and fitness and acting ability. She is a wooden actor who happened to be an MMA star and hot in her youth. Super based and a great gal for sure though. Next, don’t forget that the only reason Elon bought Twitter in the end was to avoid further discovery on his text messages. People act like that wasn’t a thing but it was. Glad he bought it and although I don’t like some of his actions and ideas, on the whole he is great. But he took a 20 billion dollar haircut to avoid embarrassing texts being released. So it’s funny that he would force the lawsuit with Disney to make sure that ‘does’ happen to them.
first point may be true, but what text messages are you talking about? I really doubt he would waste 44billion just to cover up some "embarrassing text messages"
It was in the news in the earliest part of the court case where Musk tried to back out of the deal on the grounds that there were more Twitter bots than Twitter admitted so the valuation was inflated. Musk had a perfectly reasonable case but they blackmailed him with an implied threat to use discovery to make all his text messages public in the case. It was after this that he suddenly gave up the court case and paid the price for twitter that he knew it wasn't worth for. Ask yourself this, does he seem like the kind of guy to roll over for no reason? He and everyone knows he overpaid for Twitter by about $20 billion. He was willing to go only so far for the cause of free speech but not pay that much over the odds. But if you are worth $300 billion and someone threatens to legally air all your dirty laundry, probably including some raunchy stuff, then it's reasonable to assume he would fold. Especially as most of the money being overpaid was investor money and not his own. @@nahkaboltsi6315

This is the most entertaining Disney story since Avengers Endgame and man I am HERE for it. 😂🤣😂
The real Phase 5

Does Disney even have some money left to try buy off Gina Carano off court settlement after they suffer a lot of flops and money losses with their failure of movies and shows?
No amount of will get Gina to shut up. She's in it for the truth to be put out into the public.
Yes it's still pocket change to them, but I hope they go the distance to teach the biotches of Disney a lesson.

I hope they win this lawsuit.
Elon is pulling from his boy Peter Thiel’s playbook. Thiel settled his vendetta with Gawker by funding Hulk Hogan’s lawsuit.
The thing with Gina Carano is the whole thing was started by some trolls acting as the "pronoun police". She simply said she didn't want to put them in her bio. That's it.

I watched a Razorfist stream recently, and he said that it might be smarter for Elon to buy up Disney properties like Star Wars so that they become increasingly irrelevant over the next few years. Then he can swoop in and buy the company for probably much less than he would spend now.

In a sane world nothing Gina wrote would be seen as controversial but we don't even live adjacent to a sane world.
Lovely to see (or hear) Baggage Claim! I really like the dynamic in the gang in this episode.

I work in a warehouse for a major international company, and we've straight out been warned that our social media can be used against us at work.
Also social media clauses are very common in contracts......
Extremely, especially for Disney. Though.. doesn’t matter much, her contract ran out, she wasn’t fired.

Completely agree with BC. This is to expose Disney and the Twitterate. The content of twit should be available to the owner.
Why wouldn’t Elon buy Disney? I think that’s exactly what he has in mind.
I have only one question about this. If Musk is really all about free speech, why did he install a CEO at X who has connections to the WEF?
Disney likes strong, independent women, as long as she does everything they say.
Regarding her asking to get her job back, she should also ask to have full creative control over her character in the show 😂
I have been saying for years that Iger is tanking Disney deliberatly so he can put it in a position for hostile takeover.

Freedom of speech only means you don't go to jail for saying "I don't like the King's taxes". It has nothing to do with your job.
I hope there is NO settlement. We all want to see what's REALLY going at Disney.
