So... having this group of unkillable badasses facing a ramdon cult could go wrong if not handle propperly. Heck, in RE8 Christ literally decimated the entire Village by himself with five ramdon people as support, Leon became the most dangerous creature in Spain the three days he was there playing Bingo and Jill grabbed the most powerful Bioweapon made by Umbrella and tore it a new one... literally. Ethan in RE7 and RE8 sort of worked because he was an average Joe trying to survive, despite him having the intelligence and emotions of a Wallnut.
My thoughts exactly. How can this game ever hope to be horror-focused or even survival horror IF we are playing as veterans? Leon running from a witch, Jill from a goat man? These character have faced and conquered FAR WORSE than that stuff.

This is why people should've shut the hell up about 5&6 and accepted the transitional change from horror to action because it was the only logical way to have progressed with these characters. The franchise should've just ended at 5 but we all know that nothing has an ending anymore and I hate it. They can't set anything up long-term like they did with Wesker because it takes them too long to make each game and it'd take them 50 years to close an entire storyline. The few setups they do explore they immediately forget like Simmons' Family and how involved they are with the government(s) and Alex Wesker is still currently hiding within Natalia's subconscious yet there's been nothing on those two threads, most likely forgotten like Jake, who had a lot of potential as well as Sherry taking over as the new active agents that could reasonably still be doing this stuff that could've been the replacement to Chris and Jill duo. I wish we could at least get some kind of confirmation on the current status of Ashely or Billy. I'm genuinely surprised they even remembered Barry was a character in this franchise in all honesty.
I agree, a new character brings the plot more on a human level, I love the main cast but they have seen and lived trough any kind of horrors and lost friends and partners, they are emotionally invulnerable, it would be nice a new MC while the old cast appears in game like Chris in 8, maybe adding them as playable characters in DLCs or NG+

I'd like it to be 2 separate campaigns for each character, with their own distinctive tones. Also, exclusive side quests, mini-games, and secrets. Maybe a 3rd campaign in the future, as DLC, with Chris. Let's say around 8-10 hours each if aiming only to complete their stories (double that if aiming to 100% them).
These IDIOTS at Capcom should never have aged these characters. WHY would you age these intellectual properties?? These are IPs so many companies would kill for.

@@infinitePenguin0I like Chris as well but they need to do something besides repeat how jaded and cynical he is and then having him find his motivation again before going back to being jaded for the next game.
If these rumours are true then I’m a little disappointed that Chris won’t be the main character of this game. But oh well. Leon’s cool and it’s been too long since Jill has been the main character in a mainline Resident Evil game.
I know death island wasn’t all that great. But I did like seeing Jill struggle with the guilt of Weskers mind control I hope they maybe explore that a little more. She’ll be at least 50. I’d like to see our hero’s at least come to a place of contentment in their lives. However I do think that if these rumors are true it’s a good step to better quality games.
I'll have you know I quite liked "Mr. Personality's" story. Village definitely went overboard and was not my favorite, but I still really enjoyed it. And the ending with his sacrifice was pretty darn good in my eyes. Either way I'm excited for 9
One thing I loved about the molded was like old re games you could read and dodge their attacks. No button press, just slightly shift you character and completely dodge their swing. It felt rewarding for learning patterns. The jack boss fight has a similar thing with an achievement for ducking the insta kill.
I skipped RE 7 and 8 due to being first person only perspective. Hopefully RE 9 will go back to 3rd person. If not, then I'll just have to wait until the RE 5 remake.
The 1st person perspective is pretty cool though; makes it feel much more claustrophobic, especially for the first half of 7 and House Beneviento in Village. I'd recommend playing them, especially now they're dirt cheap.
@@Garviel-Loken Yeah but the game wasn't designed to be played that way and it shows; it doesn't have anywhere near the combat nuance of the over-the-shoulder games.
@alondite215 I disagree with that. With the exception of melee combat, which I always thought was a bit ridiculous in games about creatures you want to stay as far away from as possible, I don't really see a difference. Both 1st and 3rd person offer the ability to aim at body parts and you can run around monsters to aim at other body parts from behind. 4, 5 and 6 truly jumped the shark when it came to melee combat, it's not nuance to make a kick the same comparable strength as a magnum because you shot something in its knee.
I for one Drinker, am extremely apprehensive about Capcom right now. While some changes have been expected for the series, their reboots concern me with how the characters act and behave, especially Reboot 4. Minus all the sex jokes being removed, there's a lot of genuinely grinding moments that I absolutely cannot stand, one of and the biggest for me was the Leon vs Ada scene. It's completely butchered and worse in every single way possible, there's no show of strength, skill, intelligence, or athleticism in the entire scene. Leon originally doesn't (and shouldn't) trust Ada and keeps her weapon away from her, even unloading it before tossing it away. He grills her hard about her connection to Wesker and what she's after and she plays coy with him while dropping her sunglasses, which is a trap to later create a flashbang for her to make a getaway from him now that he has the advantage. This simply doesn't happen in the remake and I can't for the life of me understand why, other than the writers are completely hacks and didn't understand the point of the scene, and it's one of the biggest plot points of the *franchise* for Leon's character because up until then, we didn't actually know whether Ada survived Racoon City and were only speculating if it was her because of her red dress that she had during 2. Conveniently in both REmakes 2 and 4 she isn't wearing her iconic red dress and doesn't strike out as the femme fatale that she is. She's just flat and boring now, as well as her interactions and involvement with Leon. There's no spice between them anymore, and no sense their usual cat and mouse shenanigans which, for all its flaws, 6 still built on successfully. All this from ONE scene getting flubbed and I understand it might not mean anything to most people, but still to this day the original Resident Evil 4 is one of my all time favorite games ever. I've played it countlessly time and time again and always found something new either gameplay or narrative wise that I've come to love and appreciate from the game or what impact it had on the series. And I simply couldn't stand the numerous little flaws that drained the soul out of the original, including all the sexual stuff with Ashely. Had that been the only thing removed, no big deal, but when it's coupled with all these other minor flaws, I just wish they didn't touch it and it worries me what Capcom thinks they're doing with their decisions lately, especially concerning how they've been handling Street Fighter 6 and Dead Rising Remake. I just don't trust them to not screw this up, something I didn't know I'd have to worry about since DMC5 but here we are yet again where we don't know if Capcom is gonna give us another banger or vomit sludge again.
One of things that made Resident Evil Vendetta so good was it showed Leon basically sick and tired of all this. And let's not kid ourselves, Leon has carried this franchise as much as Jill has. As a fan of his character, he deserves a break and good retirement.
@TheCyclicGamer I mean I did say the reverse. But when many people, especially those who have played from the beginning, when you think of Resident Evil, Jill is usually the first one who comes to mind.
These idiots want RE to go back to being survival horror but at the same time want tired old characters to keep returning as protagonists. It's like watching a horror movie and expecting to get scared by the monsters when the main character is fucking Doom Slayer.
@@themightydenis loved how 7 and 8 brought down the scale of the story and games overall to something more streamlined. Capcom really needed that shake up after throwing everything and the kitchen sink on RE6 which had ideas for at least two separate games if played right.

I hope they will implement the Village DLC's perspective shift, alternating from 1st to 3rd person was really refreshing in multiple gameplays and change of pacing. Playing in 1st person create a lot of immersion in dark and small places, while 3rd is good for the action moments when you have to be quick in shooting and evading enemies.

Maybe an unpopular take but I actually really liked Ethan. Playing as a husband and then father with the sole purpose of trying to save my family was cool. Im not saying hes on Chris or Leons level but I think he gets far too much hate for no real reason. Was he more boring than Chris and Leon, well yea, hes just a guy. Hes not highly trained or part of some elite group. I dont know, I thought Ethan was a cool change of pace for the franchise, especially for going back to their more horror roots in 7. It worked. Jack Baker wouldnt have been nearly as intimidating if you could just Roundhouse him as Leon or Haymaker him as Chris.
I would love if they did a RE based on Skinwalkers , make it horror based , walking through skin walker ranch at night being stalked by skinwalkers , maybe introduce a new parasite that can cause humans to shapeshift into animals doesn’t seem really far off than what Miranda can do so I feel like it can easily be tied into the mold
I understand why not everybody likes Ethan, and I'm happy for his story to be finished up and for Capcom to bring back some more recognizable characters, but I have a fondness for the guy. Dude got turned into something inhuman, but in his head he was just a regular guy that didn't let anything stop him. Part of me gets a chuckle imagining Chris in the debriefing of the Baker Incident hearing that the 50-60 dead Molded around the property were killed by some schmuck with a pistol and bad one-liners. And the ending of RE 8 really sold me on him. The poor bastard literally ran himself to pieces to protect his family. It's cheesy as hell, but it worked for me. Maybe they'll bring back some REAL underused characters, like Ark Thompson
@@AllKnowingOne88 I'd 100% agree with you if it wasn't for RE remakes we were talking about. Those are the rare cases of me actually getting excited for a remake these days, gotta praise them when you see them.
I loved every RE mainline title except 6. They werent all horror but they were all fun. I really liked the hub concept in RE8 and hope they bring that back in a way, like all the little side quests you can do and backtracking secrets. I liked the horror dollhouse part in 8 but the puzzle solving was pretty weak in both 7 and 8. I think rather than having isolated sections where you finish it and never come back, they should stick with the longer puzzles that require you to backtrack and keep connectivity between the areas. Basically closer to RE3's (original) clock tower. RE7 and RE8 to some extent kind of feel like RE5 but with no loading zones/level boundaries.
The lore for Resident Evil is so unbelievably batSchitt & all over the place... There are games that feel like standalone genre pieces for the most part... then there are incestuous shipper bait dumpster fires that make current year Disney seem subtle.
I guarantee the relationship between Leon and Jill will be stoic and professional with zero flare, per usual for current day Capcom. But the game will still be fun.
Personally I enjoyed conclusion to Ethan's story a great deal, thank you very much, his journey to save his loved ones brought at least bit of human element, and we didn't have much of that since Claire. While I adore veteran characters like Jill or Barry as much as the next person, RE never had a clear-cut central protagonist. Chris might be the closest to that idea. As for RE 9 rumors, I'm hopeful for Jill making a return to mainline entry - her possible presence would probably soften the burden of another game with emo Leon. I just can't help but feel that Capcom shoves him in too many projects, not to mention he was most entertaining as a rookie cop anyways.
0:08 I did :( I like Ethan even if they screwed up his character in 7. I think he still has potential to be a great character, of course this is assuming they bring him back somehow. I loved his character in 8. They made him such a chad even if he still felt hollow. I feel like he'll make some sort of appearance in 9, of course in what context remains to be seen.
Dude, I unironically got chills when you said Barry might be in this rumored game. This definitely isn't the first time I've heard this rumor. However, last time it was just info on who would be the primary protagonists, Leon and Jill. Not all this extra information on the setting and potential plot points. When leaks get this crazy, it usually means they're ready to show something. I'm certain they'll reveal something soon, at The Video Game Awards, or in their own stream.
This is neither here nor there, but I did notice this morning when I was sitting in my living room enjoying my second cup of coffee and looking at my TH-cam feed on the Roku screen that Drinker has a really good eye for visual art. The images on his thumbnails are really beautiful, intriguing, and stimulating (even the picture he picked of Hollywood burning down was just lovely). And on the subject of absence of annoying sales pitches, he doesn't advertise anything other than his plushies (almost wanted to get the Doggo one, can't do the Drinker doll in my bedroom. Well, the Bible does call the Roman Catholic Church "Mystery, Babylon the Great, the Mother of all Harlots and Abominations of the Earth". And back in the 1970s, Pastor David Wilkerson prophesied there would one day be nudity in the Church and be seen as a form of worship.
Village would have been an amazing stand alone survival horror game that could kick off a brand new franchise. But no, God forbid they do anything unique. They have to take our childhood IPs and Frankenstein it into an unrecognizable BS.
I just hope they embrace being a horror franchise. Resident Evil 7 was much scarier than Village, by miles. Prioritising action over horror is what caused the franchise to fall in the first place.
You want horror? Get these people to stop demanding the return of tired old characters who literally have nothing to do with the franchise at this point anymore.

This all sounds fine. I hope it's more survival focused that action focused and that the mold infected look more like zombies than tar monsters. Also that the unkillable stalker enemies are regulated to certain sections and segments. The unkillable enemy is alot of fun in small doses, but after a while, it stops being scary or even tense and just becomes tedious. Gotta say, though, what would really get me excited would be a full-blown remaster of RE 1,2, and 3. Not a remake, just a remaster. Keep the gameplay, story, layout, and dialog all the same and just significantly up the audio/visual quality, and I don't mean just smoothing out the polygons and calling it a day. I mean, redo the backgrounds, character models, textures, the whole sha-bang.
His terrible, poorly thought-out one-liners conveyed a lot of personality imo. He's just a dork trying his best. A lot more interesting than infallible action man.
@@tyclips4155 I get if you like that as a matter of personal preference, but it is a bold claim to say he has more personality when he's 80% audience insert/silent protag, 10% bad jokes/lines/plot decisions and then 10% exposition machine. Honestly I really want a multiplayer feature like thie one in resident evil 5. I loved playing that game with my friends. Whether it was online or split screen, it was just fun playing with other ppl in the story mode. We laughed, we raged, we died and we beat the game doing all of that together.
Ethan actually had a great arc. He wasn't some generic badass super soldier, but an actually relatable down to earth guy. Which imo is a perfect protagonist for a horror game.
The Winters mini saga was great. Not perfect but definitely will be remembered as classics. For all its flaws Village is actually one of my favorites. But we don't need more so it'll be good to get the oldies back
Seeing as how RE7 pretty much saved the series due to how it simultaneously went back to its roots yet completely re-invented itself, and Village is actually a strong contender for my favorite RE, I would definitely disagree on what 9’s direction should be (a sequel to 7/Village with the First-Person perspective). I appreciate your enthusiasm for the series as a longtime viewer (it’s my favorite game series, and likely my favorite franchise period) and hope that we’ll see more of it soon.
Drinker has to stop doggin on RE7 and RE8, both were great games and a good pivot from the original formula. They also can be used well to lead back to the main series focus, so I see nothing wrong with them.
I loved the gothic horror of RE8 and I think Capcom should do more projects like it. Maybe even in different time periods. Slasher/Thriller Resident Evil that is set in a small U.S town in the 80's with themes inspired by the legendary slasher films. Have the game be semi-open world á la Evil Within 2, with genre appropriate setting changes. RE8 and past titles have established that these mutations pre-date Umbrella. So maybe a Resident Evil set in the 1800s American West? I feel like RE as a series can be made to be a lot more versatile than it is now.
I would love a RE game where all the main characters from Chris, Jill, Claire, Leon, Ada, Barry, and Rebecca all team up together. Kinda of like what we saw in that RE Death Island film.
Doesn't matter how old Leon gets, his hair will never change.

If they continue the FPS route I'm out, I prefer the three remake camera styles.
@@Sevatar_VIIIth Might be an option they did this in Village so you never know. I’m fine with either or both offer something of dynamic and horror aspect 7 did this perfectly with its Texas chainsaw massacre vibes.
Its so hard to get back to Resident Evil without VR. RE7 in VR broke me in a good way and I can't play anymore without the VR support. I hope they bring it at release so we don't have to rely on mods!
Bring back an older version of normal Jill...the one from REmake!!!
Hey Gamer, i must say, i hate those rumers. I don´t click at any news that says "rumors". But when i see the Critical Gamer making a Video about those rumors, i have to watch it! Thats how much of a reputation you got for me! Keep gaming you drunken legend!

Leon and Jill focused plot! Hell yeah take my money!
Should be Chris and Jill. Leon is overused. 🙄
@@infinitePenguin0 I disagree vehemently
@@mmanzanozr1 cool. doesn't change the fact that Leon is overused.
@@infinitePenguin0I like Chris as well but they need to do something besides repeat how jaded and cynical he is and then having him find his motivation again before going back to being jaded for the next game.
@4thSurviver It's a game about fighting bioweapons. As long as he is cool and looks cool, I'm happy.
Please, please:
-Be offline
-Be Third person
-Have mercenaries / Raid mode (Reunion would be amazing)
*Looking at the end of RE5* "How the hell is this *grounded*?"
*Glances at RE7 & 8* "By comparison."
you have to turn off the suspension of belief in RE5
i didnt hate death island but the movies are canon, so i'd expect some kind of reference if any of these rumors prove to be true.
If these rumours are true then I’m a little disappointed that Chris won’t be the main character of this game. But oh well. Leon’s cool and it’s been too long since Jill has been the main character in a mainline Resident Evil game.
That's basically only RE3, isn't it? In RE1 she was the easy mode.
ye what happened about that plotline with Chris and his squad dealing with a corrupterd BSAA?
Capcom hate Chris. It's obvious.
@@mattmark94if jill is still working with the BSAA as the leak is stating that means they have to address the BSAA situation
There could always be a DLC with Chris as the main character.
I feel like the series hasn't been right since Wesker snuffed it.
You missed out.
Because RE5 is where the main story for RE ended. Everything after has been bonus chapters essentially.
It's about time Jill was playable in a main line title.
She's playable in three mainline titles.
@@KrokPanther she will get overshadowed by Leon. Because Capcom only cares about Leon. 🙄
I agree, The best character in the series for me
I know death island wasn’t all that great.
You can play 8 in 3rd person now.
@alondite215 I disagree with that.
I think Death Island stated that Jill doesn’t age due to her brief G-Virus infection in RE3.
I love the voice matchup right at the end. The Critical Drinkerette. =P
One of things that made Resident Evil Vendetta so good was it showed Leon basically sick and tired of all this. And let's not kid ourselves, Leon has carried this franchise as much as Jill has. As a fan of his character, he deserves a break and good retirement.
Jill, carrying this franchise as much as Leon? Are you high?
@TheCyclicGamer I mean I did say the reverse. But when many people, especially those who have played from the beginning, when you think of Resident Evil, Jill is usually the first one who comes to mind.
What about the rumours of the Code: Veronica remake? As someone thoroughly enjoying the REmakes right now, that's what I want to see.
I actually liked 7!
And 8! The POINT was to make them different after RE6 mess of a script
These idiots want RE to go back to being survival horror but at the same time want tired old characters to keep returning as protagonists. It's like watching a horror movie and expecting to get scared by the monsters when the main character is fucking Doom Slayer.
@ AGREED
@@themightydenis loved how 7 and 8 brought down the scale of the story and games overall to something more streamlined. Capcom really needed that shake up after throwing everything and the kitchen sink on RE6 which had ideas for at least two separate games if played right.
I wanted to hate 7 so bad especially considering it was a copy of P.T. but they really made it their own and I enjoyed it, loved 8 too. Im perfectly fine at this point giving Capcom a chance to surprise me
8 is ok but rips off RE4 way too much. 7 is one of the best
Ada Wong was supposed to have an appearance in RE Village, but was ultimately cut, so hopefully she will have a part in RE9.
Hopefully it's better than village
I hope they will implement the Village DLC's perspective shift, alternating from 1st to 3rd person was really refreshing in multiple gameplays and change of pacing. Playing in 1st person create a lot of immersion in dark and small places, while 3rd is good for the action moments when you have to be quick in shooting and evading enemies.
Well it’ll be trash if they use the emo girl boss Jill character model…
Bring back 1990’s Jill or I’d even take early 2000 Jill lol just don’t give me RE 3 remake Jill or whatever that was in the Netflix death island version

I would like a Berry mode. Just a short scenario where you play as Berry with voice lines that might as well been in RE 1.
Rebecca Chambers needs more love.
Seems cool, though I’m not the biggest fan of à big bad chasing you non stop that you can’t kill 😔

I am a big horror fan so 7 was my favourite just by the virtue of actually trying to be a horror but I am up for anything at this point.

I still want Resident Evil one to be remade. In the new engine, like Resident Evil 2 and 3
Zero could use that treatment, too. Might as well do at least the main numbered series at this point.
RE:0 and RE:CV for me personally.

@@AllKnowingOne88 I'd 100% agree with you if it wasn't for RE remakes we were talking about. Those are the rare cases of me actually getting excited for a remake these days, gotta praise them when you see them.
@@Jasper_Silva mansion doesnt need remake, its art as it is.
As a long time fan, I pick and choose the lore to suit myself 😂
As a new time fan (3-ish years) I chose to follow the remake lore for the most part
Wait till you get into Resident Evil Gaiden where Leon Dies.
I guarantee the relationship between Leon and Jill will be stoic and professional with zero flare, per usual for current day Capcom. But the game will still be fun.
Yep.. they ruined ada by making her less flirty and more "buisness". Even changed her iconic lines in RE4. 🙄
@@coreymckee4844 Yup, just as they also took Leon "Ladies Man" Kennedy out back and shot him.
Redfield was shit in the village. Ethan was a gigachad dad, no Ethan disrespect
Yeah, the Ethan Winter story was great in RE7, a bit unnecessary for RE8, and now I don't want to be about him again in RE9.
Honestly, Ethan should have been a one and done protagonist and then become a supporting character.
Actually makes you want to click on them, and he doesn't use clickbait titles - also appreciated. And on the subject of absence of annoying sales pitches, he doesn't advertise anything other than his plushies (almost wanted to get the Doggo one, can't do the Drinker doll in my bedroom. I'd want to see his dreamy blue eyes - the dark, sinister sunglasses staring at me is not conducive to a good night sleep, especially in my super cheery, sunny yellow bedroom. P.S. I recently looked at his t-shirts, and I was hoping to find the one with the ship going down with the 'nah, it'll be fine' caption. But it's gone. I guess if you snooze, you lose.

@@TheCyclicGamer You're preaching to the converted. I despised what they did with Chris Redfield in Village, they turned him into the biggest moron in the franchise.

Resident Evil 9: The Final Chapter
So, the end of the franchise.
Leon aside, Ethan Winters had more personality than all the legacy characters combined.
"What?" "Huh" "What’s going on?!" - Ethan
Yeah what a wellspring of personality.
@@Straitzotruly riveting
Bro, Ethan's poor maimed hands have more screentime and character than he does. He's a one-note silent protag that they forgot to make fully silent.
I get the others being cliche action people but Ethan just has no identity at all.
But we don't need more so it'll be good to get the oldies back
Get rid of the ethan winters storyline de canonise that shit
Same goes to the reimaginings of 2, 3 and 4. Jill, Claire and Ada were atrocious in those games
All I care about is Good Gameplay , Good Writing , Consistant Storytelling.
PS :- Leon gotta have that swagger lord hair as well.
I enjoyed 8 way more than I expected to. Surprised me in the best ways. Good job Capcom, looking forward to 9.
Totally agree. The remakes have given me a lot of confidence too. More of that is fine with me.
