Thanks for your recommendation, I have now moved from a GH5 to an A7iii. I had an issue with bracketed shots not aligning perfectly and requiring photoshop to align them. I have now discovered the issue is "steady shot". I have now turned it off and the bracketed shots are perfectly aligned.

Cool U. should be an accredited institution of higher learning. What a treasure trove these videos are. Thank you, Nathan. Based on this particular video I just today ordered a Tokina 16-28mm f/2.8 in Canon EF mount (currently $100 off or $599). I have total confidence in your recommendations.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this. I have been shooting on a Nikon D5500 for the last 3 years. I shake to think what my shutter count is since I am still shooting brackets (not confident in my lighting just yet), I did buy a D750 but need to get the lens for it and love to here that I didn't make a mistake in getting it.
Thank you as always and I look forward to growing more again this year.

You recommend a full frame camera but at iso 320 7.1, that would translate to X crop sensor Iso 160 at 5.6 or GFX Iso 800 f9 and get very similar, dynamic range, signal to noise ratio right?

Regarding other cameras and lenses not mentioned in this video: As I point out in the Fundamentals section of this video, these are recommendations based on business decisions for REP, which takes into account not just quality, but also budget (including redundancy), 3rd-party availability (for lenses, accessories, software, etc.), and more, while balancing this to quality expectations at all levels of REP. For instance, you could opt for a Panasonic S5, but pairing that with a Sigma 14-24 would total about $3400 per camera-lens setup, which is much higher than what I recommend in this video; and the recommendations in this video provide more choices for lenses and other 3rd party availability. In any event, you can check how your camera and lens compares quality-wise at dxomark.com, and then weigh that against the cost and quality of the options I talk about in this video, as well as how 3rd party availability stacks up.

      Thanks for the video.
My background is in architecture, and I've always taken arch. (interior and exterior) photos as an enthusiast/hobby.
I'm now looking at doing real estate photography, so I'm doing research on this.
One of the lenses I enjoy using is the Canon L 11-24/f4. I bought it because it was the widest lens that provides rectilinear images (all the lines are straight - so not a fish eye lens).
I enjoy it for my personal architectural images (especially the interior shots in beautiful interior spaces), but I was wondering if this lense is too wide for real estate.
I think I see most real estate photographers using Canon L 16-35 (f2.8).
I was looking at getting the Sigma 14mm f1.8 for astro-photography - and also thought that might work for real-estate, but figured I'd ask if neither of these two lenses, although wide, and high quality lenses, are not good angles (too wide??) for real-estate.
      -
Thanks in advance for your help. I'm learning a lot thanks to your videos (needless to say, I sub'd, and bell notification has been turned on).

Your timing couldn't be better sir! I would not consider myself a professional (yet) but I've been shooting real estate on a very old crop sensor for several years. Time to upgrade!
I started researching just last night and this morning I see you posted this... LOL
Any of these would be a HUGE upgrade from my current setup; but I'd also like to start to dabble in video as well.. would any of your top 3 be a good fit to start in that arena as well?
Thanks for all your time and effort in helping the REP community get better!

Appreciate the work & research you put into this video Nathan! With the general populus move to mirrorless, there are some insane deals to be found; especially on Nikon DSLR bodies & glass! I found a D780 with 1775 clicks for $1400 (covid related business closure) complimenting my 5 yr old D750 & an immaculate Nikkor 17-35mm f/2.8D IF-ED lens for $400! I was stunned for sure. Anyway, your insight is spot on I'm! I'm still using an old Nikkor 20mm f/2.8 AF-D for exteriors. Keep the knowledge, tips & tutelage coming; it's highly appreciated & greatly used! 👍

    • @NathanCoolPhoto

Since filters aren't necessary for RE photography it doesn't matter. All super wide angle lenses (including the OEMs) have the same issue: fixed lens hoods with no attachment for filters due to the bulbous front element.

I am really interested in getting into real estate photography for the first time. Any tips for a brand new beginner? These were all good camera tips :) I love Sony so I can use it for my video needs too, I tried the a7c and it is amazing but I decided to return it and wait for the rumored a7iv. I really want the a7siii but worry about it only having 12mp and that not being enough, what do you think?

    • @NathanCoolPhoto
      @NathanCoolPhoto  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Hi Molly, the best tip I can give beginners in real estate photography is to spend a few bucks and download at least the first e-book in my series (interiors). This will explain, in-depth, the gear, composition, lighting, editing, and much more to get you started. There are 8 books total in the series, so just start with the first and see how it goes from there. The e-books are much better (and cheaper) than the paperbacks, and can be read on any device using the free Kindle app. Here's a link if you'd like to check them out: amzn.to/3rLwpLy

What is the widest wide angle focal length needed for real estate photography? I am using Sony Prime 20 mm f/1.8 and zoom 12 - 24 mm F/4 - have a month to practice on them before I decide to return or not. I have a Sony zoom 24- 105. I have been puzzled about the protection of the 12-24 lens. Is the NA coating enough to protect it from the elements?

Great video! I'm really considering this Tokina Opera AF 16-28MM FX F/2.8 (Canon Mount) lens. From my understanding, if I get the Canon EOS RP camera body, attach a mount adapter EF - EOS R, I can use this lens? Hi Nathan, thank you for the great video.
Just need your idea about something:
    I have a Nikon d750 with 24 70 nikon lens.
I want to start real estate photography but my lens is not suitable for that.
In addition to that I am planning to do real estate videography too. But I don’t know exactly what to do because Nikon d750 apparently is not too good for the video.
So if I get a Tokina 16 35 lens for d750 I know I can do the photography but when it comes to video again I will have problems. So in your opinion should I leave my camera for the events etc and I should get a Sony a7 3 with a wide lens or should I take a tokina lens for Nikon d750 and get a canon m50 with a 16 35 like lens for video and also photography?
    Thank you

    • @NathanCoolPhoto

You should look at this from a different perspective: If you're serious about getting into REP, remember that it's a business. All businesses do best with an investment, so don't try to work with only what you have, but what will help start and grow your business, and then invest in that. That includes your gear, and the knowledge to put it to proper use for REP. I'd suggest downloading ebook #1 in my REP series to get started with some of the basics and see how it goes from there. Here's a link to that if you'd like to check it out: amzn.to/3S9VpKW
