    If you are concerned about money, get the Stingray and then buy the Z06 grill, front splitter, and side rockers. It gives you that badass look for about $1000.

      I did exactly that plus Procharger , LT4 fuel system , methanol injection, and headers. So basically when everybody says “oh look a stingray “. I can put a “ I just pumped the neighbors cat look on their face when i gap the crap out on them.

    Grandsport any day but I can't afford it so I gotta go with the stingray

  • @615Z06
    @615Z06 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    It depends on what you want to do with the car, and your resources. I track mine often, so went for a Z06 with Z07 package. Won LS Fest in it last week. If I could only afford a Vette for daily driving, it would be a Stingray. You can drive one for a very reasonable price, and maintain it reasonably as well. Luckily, they built one for each of us.

  • @polarbear111000
    @polarbear111000 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    My first Vette is the 2017 Z06 with Z07 package. I went for the top right out of the box, and I have no regrets. The only thing I would say with respect to taking a Grand Sport or base Stingray, and then modifying it to make huge power, is.....say goodbye to your warranty. The whole advantage of buying a new car with all the power you need is the 5 year 100,000 mile warranty that comes along with it. I don't like surprises............especially ones I have to pay for......

    • @Corvettes918
      @Corvettes918  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Large Modifications defiantly come after the warranty is over. did they change the warranty for 2017. The 2016 only came with 5 year 60K. You defiantly have a great car the only thing I would change on the Z07 package are the tires. Cup 2's shouldn't come on those cars.

    • @z28ninja
      @z28ninja 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act covers this issue. Modifying your car does not void the manufactures warranty. This is a myth. Dealers say modifications void the warranty because the dealership eats the cost of repairs. The dealer has to show positive proof and without doubt or question that a particular modification caused the malfunction of the warrantied part. If you come across a dealership who says your mod voided out your manufactures warranty, you need to show them, The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. They know of this Act, but do not have to inform you of it.

    I've owned a 2016 C7 stingray and now own a 2018 Grandsport, it's definitely a nicer car than a C7 stingray, it's more balanced , the GS has the wider body and tires and better suspension to handle the power better.. from a dig it just hooks so much better..

  • @finler1
    @finler1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Corvette Stingray 2LT with Z51 package and MRC is the bomb mac-diggity. Dual mode exhaust sings. In my opinion as good as most any other Corvette out there performance wise, GS or Stingray. Differences seem mostly cosmetic - GS has external lower rear vent - Stingray has lower rear vent under the car. Identical horsepower and torque numbers. GS has stage 2 aero, 2 extra brake pistons and slightly wider wheels. GS does look more aggressive but real world performance is identical. The big jump is from 460 horse power to 650 for Z06 and even higher for ZR1. In the end I think what matters is are you happy with your choice? I think just owning a Corvette is a blast. Besides you can always change the car over time to suit your needs.

    Bought a stingray to build it up and track it myself. After i’m done I will be buying a 2019 Zr1 as a little reward and treat lol I am fortunate to own super cars but it just is not the same experience as building a sports car into a beast BY YOURSELF. Nothing like it. C7 is the perfect car for that. I used to drive a continental GT as my daily but ever since i got the stingray, that’s been my #1 choice for DD.

    Hello there. I just ran across your videos and I am sold on the Grand Sport C7 now. I've owned 8 different Corvettes and I'm currently driving a convertible Mercedes but now realize that I miss my Vettes. Not so much for what others think, but because it really is my car of choice and i miss the positive feeling of the low, hard ride. Anyway, i like the way that you present your videos and will subscribe. Keep presenting OUR cars in a positive light and may God bless your Family as well as your Corvette Family!!

    I'd need to drive both to see daily capability/comfort/practicality. The Grand Sport is gorgeous, it genuinely stirs something inside your soul and that's what I want, I just hope the cheaper Z51 is not way too comfortable in comparison.
    I would get the Zo6 if it didn't have those overheating issues. Probably the mid-engined Zo6 will be the car to get.

    • @Corvettes918
      @Corvettes918  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a way around the overheating issues see my video overheating fix plus this only happen if you are on the track and its a hot day and you are putting down allot laps. Normal driving and even out getting on it with some friends has never been an issue for me.

    Long story hopefully short. I intend to put 20-40k miles on a Corvette over a 2 year period. Tire question: I don't want to get caught in the rain with Cup Tires which is stock on the Grand Sport and Z06, being that I want to put miles on it...stick with a regular Stingray? Tire wise the maximum life on tires is 15k. What would you suggest regarding tires and model?

    • @Corvettes918
      @Corvettes918  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The cup 2 tires only come with the Z07 package not al GS and Z06 have them most are super sports which do just fine in rain. The super sports will give you 25-30k miles if you have the camber and toe put to nearly zero.

      For that you can get a C7 Z06 with the 3LZ package along with the Z07 package. Get the carbon Fiber interior pieces as well ad the carbon fiber Top and hood stinger. Thats probably going to MSRP at 108K but they will take 100K for it. Good luck on your new Corvette.

    For past 4 months got smart on the market - test drove about 12 local cars... had a great GS w 20k miles on it picked out at Stingray Chevy... interior noise - not from exhaust or engine but from road rumble/tires was on the high side for me. Took my wife for a test drive and she declared it: this will give us a headache on a 1hr+ drive... so much for the GS! I know its a sportscar for petes sake and the noise comes with the territory.... - Just wanted to share with others who like me LOVED the GS and may be interior noise-sensitive... I ended up with a 2019 3LT with 10k miles the npp exhaust and the Z51 chrome wheels - saved $10k and don't have a headache and enjoy driving 3 hrs to see my sister...
    I'll always miss that 2019 GS - the last of the best IMHO - but I'll do much better for my use on the stingray...
    if anyone wants my transparent top in trade for their CF just let me know!

    Not a convertible lol. I would say GS because it's the perfect middle of the road car. The handling of a Z06 yet the silky LT1. Plus you could easily add power to get where your comfortable and have the suspension to handle it. Plus the looks are amazing. Either way it's a win.

    • @Corvettes918

    Morning, with the 2018 GS you can get the ZO7 brakes with the ZO7 pkg now...also the dash over thee instrument cluster down to the grab handle comes in the color of the interior in a 2LT pkg, just like the 3LTpkg.
    Keep up the good work on your blogs...

    • @Corvettes918
      @Corvettes918  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Demmolitionman So you can get the carbon ceramics brakes and rotors without having to get the cup2 tires? I knew you can option for the Z07 Brakes without the package but I was thinking you still got stuck with those racing slicks. That is huge if you get the Z07 brake system and keep the pilot super Sport S 4 tires. It's much cheaper to do the after market Arrow kits yourself. Very good comment thanks for sharing.

      My first vette was an '80 had a lot fun in it, sold it got a '72, posted it on line to show it to peeps and got and offer 2 years later for 5,000 more than I paid, sold it. Should have kept it. Wife wanted a convertible bought an '87 absolutely the worst (mechanically speaking car ever!) sold it. Kids came along needed a 4 seater convert , bought a '06 Mustang GT, added every bolt on available black on black an posted it to show it and someone swooped in with an offer I couldn't refuse. Sold it. Bought a used '02 convert vette, drove it a couple years and missed the 4 seater (kids) sold it found another '06 exactly the same as the other one and drove it, but didn't want to go through all the "power" upgrades. Sold it, bought a '08 GT500. Wow what car! It's been a few years, wife can't drive it ,it's just too much for her to handle at (modified bolt ons tune etc.) over 550 at wheels. Recent vacation took us through Bowling Green and stopped at the corvette museum and sure enough the wife wants that new vette! Found a '14 with less that 20 k miles and it looks like I'll be parking my FORD next to her CHEVY which makes sense since one of us is a CUBS fan and the other is a SOX fan LoL!

    Love the cars but I just wonder why I dont see people my age of the 20's driving them. I chose a Z51 Package L3. It fit my budget and still gave me the performance I desire. After I pay her off, I may still get a Z06 of 2017 or 2018. However thats up for debate because Im still very happy with the Z51 Package. As you said, the C7 has that aggressive look. Its like comparing tron of the old days and then the newer one. C6 and before is my Fathers and Grandfathers gen. C7 is mine.

      Corvettes 918 In all honesty, Im still in shock how C7 is ending so quickly. The last is the Carbon 65, the 2018 Model and then C8 takes over. It is in my hopes that they change the Corvette so much on the C8 that the C7 maintains desirability/style, just like the C3. Im sticking with the C7. That body style rules.

Not saying that getting the brakes without the ZO7 pkg that those tires wouldnt not be included. But I don"t remmember on any of the videos them saying that.

    Think the GS is the sweet spot in the vette lineup. Get a bit of the performance goodies that stingray doesn't have but it won't break the bank. The zo6 is awesome but do you really need 650hp?

    By the looks it seems everyone prefers the grand sport over the base stingray, I do too I’ve seen both at the dealership I saw and got in a zo6 grand sport package with the carbon fiber I just might be the youngest c7 corvette owner with a manual transmission

    Just got a 2016 Stingray Z51. Love it so far! Couple questions, does track mode have the best/fastest throttle response vs all other modes including sport? Second, does it "hurt" the car if you just drive in track mode all the time? I usually drive in sport a lot but kinda love the track feel and throttle response better. Just didn't know if it's bad for the car to just keep in track mode 100% of the time.

      Speet bumps are never good for cars that sit this low. Even on stock bolts I think you may have an issue with hitting the nose depending on the type of bumps you have.

    In your intro you remarked that for the person who doesn't want a ZO6's massive amounts of power a Grand Sport or Stingray maybe your best options.
    The Grand Sport has similar body styling to a ZO6 and with some modifications can perform like a ZO6 (slightly less money?).
    A Stingray is about 100 hp less then a Grand Sport but has enough "go" to satisfy most drivers and its body style is intentionally similar to a classic Stingray.
    If my garage was big enough I'd get a Stingray.

    • @Corvettes918
      @Corvettes918  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      All true points but to get a 650HP and 650Tq stock with a 5 year 60K mike warranty is pretty impressive. You procharge a Stingray or GS, along with a tune and maybe cam or heads. The first time you that car doing some laps if something goes wrong and the car is sidelined because now the people who did the mods are saying you did something to it on the track that Z06 for the money will seam like a steel. Push that stock Z06 all you want and if you tear it up take it back to the dealer so GM will fix it on their dime. 😎. Great comment thanks for watching.

    I went Stingray, partially because of money, and partly because I daily drive my corvette and the roads here in AZ are horrible and there are lots of speed bumps and steep driveways. Lowered suspension, aero and super low profile tires make for a lot of repair bills around here!!

    There is only going to be 650 Carbon 65's made in GS and Z06 trim 450 for the US market and 200 for GM's world market with probably the lion share going to Canada and Europe.
    They made about as many GS as they did Stingrays for 2017 so from a collectability standpoint one will not demand more for being made less like the later C6 2011+ where the GS was being made like 3 or 4 to 1 ratio over the regular vettes even these GS will demand more money but it could flip after 40 or 50 years where the regular vettes due to being less of them surpass the GS C6's.
    I was told by a few GM exects in marketing and sales that the new GS was brought out with the heavy road track/autocross oriented user in mind or the ones that want to compete in a lower class or HP group races. I'm talking about people that do it for a living at it, where they have almost everything the Z06 has minus the S/C LT-4 engine. The GS shares more with the Z06 than the Z-51. So it comes down to what your use for the car is if you hit an autocross or track like 2-3 times a month then the GS is the way to go. But if you want a fun car and one that you don't see at every street corner then the Z06 fits the bill. Or if you just don't like or trust supercharged engines for what ever reason the GS is also the way to go.
    I was told a funny story that Road America had an open track day in early fall 2015 where a few GM test drivers was giving classes and rides around the track and they was besting Z06's driven by their owners with just run of the mill Z51 Vettes around the track by a full 2 to 3 seconds a lap! Just goes to show you that you can have all the HP in the world but if you don't have the skills the better driver will pass you in what should be the inferior car. It was these types of people the GS was made for.

    • @Corvettes918
      @Corvettes918  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      great comment. It all comes down to the driver. 80% of Corvettes will never see a track but knowing you are driving something that can do those things is more than enough for most guys.

    Hi Chuck! Enjoy your channel and enthusiasm. Admire your story of overcoming your loss.
    My question is: in your video, between the ceramic matrix gray of the carbon 65 edition and the arctic white, which did you like better?
    I haven't seen the carbon 65 in person yet. I'm thinking about ordering a grand sport with hyper green hash marks when the plant opens back up, but I can't decide on color. Narrowed it down to these two.
    Thanks in advance!

    GREAT VIDEO Chuck, I have a 2ss/rs Camaro. I have customized it and I just love her to death but every since I joined your channel I have started craving Corvettes, the last two weeks I've been seeking I thought I found the nicest Stingray until I saw this video. I now know I can't purchase the stingray. I can't get the Z06 either bc of the sticker price but I can and I will look for the Grandsport. I want it as pretty as your Z06 that I feel in love with the moment I saw her:) This video allowed me to see just how much more AGGRESSIVE the Grandsport looks over the Stringray. Don't get me wrong the Stringray is nice but the Grandsport looks better and I can imitate your Z06 and be happy. LOL. Keep the video's coming I'm sure I speak for all the guys we really enjoy them as car enthusiasts. Thanks again.

    Hi Chuck, Man of Few Words here. Missed you live because Mother Nature gave Northern NJ a nice evening for a cruise night. I'm really starting to like the Carbon 65, but man, it's a $15k option which is a bit hard to swallow. Loved your dialogue and Stingray vs. GS is always a good subject. Looking forward to Saturday at 9:00AM. Until then, have a gifted week and Save the Wave. Peter P.S. I was at Kerbeck in Atlantic City yesterday and their "sources" tell them the new ZR1 will not be revealed until the Geneva Auto Show in 2018 and they have no idea when you'll be able to order one. I would be interested in what your sources might have to say about it. Maybe this subject would make for good content in an upcoming video of yours.

Over 250 cars turned out. As to the ZR1, I agree with you. I'll be at Carlisle August 24 - August 27. I've got you on speed email if there's anything news worthy. Stay tuned.
