I just bought a 2023 Softail Standard this year, and I will attest that this bike is one of the nicest softails Harley has ever made. The Milwaukee 8 107 has a ton of power and is nothing short of phenomenal.
I have this bike and changing out the seat to a saddleman explorer was a game changer. Old seat had me numb in 10 minutes of riding and feeling like I had to really hang on at freeway speeds. All kinds of plans as time and budget allow. Love this bike (upgraded from an 883)!
Oh man I am so excited for this video. I have been considering this bike since the release and I wanted to hear your feedback since I trust it so much. Great job as always blockhead
Here's my take as a guy approaching 60 years old.... the seat, yeah its not the best by no means..I traded my electraglide in for one of these. It was a 2004 88 inch 5 speed.. At my age, this bike needs no more performance..it very torquey. Its light ( why I traded, my back injury is catching up) and it has plenty of power to get around cars at the drop of a hat. My forward controls are perfect. Ill probably eventually replace the seat, but I found some Basani slip ons ill be putting on. With the daytripper tall back rest, a Bluetooth soundbar installed, and a detachable windshield, my bike is all but complete and trip ready. I was cruising around yesterday and thought id get into the throttle more than normal....The bike jumped from 70 mph to 110 in no time with more throttle just waiting on me but I backed her down. The bike weighs like 50 or 60 pounds more than a sportster. Blockhead was right when he was talking about the weight difference. Ive only owned dressers and a Heritage before, the ability to move this bike around was a huge selling point for me.. in the next ten years, ill have to move to a tri glide. Its coming I know, but until then, ill be enjoying 2 wheels any way I can. Ride safe fellers!
Iron 1200 - $9999. Softail standard - $13599. To me If I was getting into a Harley I’d elect for the standard. Fully upgradable to how you want it. Great job blockhead.
Thanks for your review man! Glad to hear those comments from a Harley experienced guy like you! I'm waiting for mine to arrive at the dealership in a month or so here in Barcelona, my first Harley!

Got a 2021 softail standard Wednesday and absolutely love it. It's got some pep with that 107 engine but super monuveraable and light. Definitely worth the price! The customization ability is insane with this bike as well.

I bought one today! Traded in my 04 electraglide. Asked if I could use my bike for some credit, they gave my 3,000.00 in credit for customizing. And I cant wait to start adding my personal touches. Picking it up Friday. So glad to get off the 88
Totally agree that stock seat is junk! Switched to a Saddleman StepUp and then a Saddleman Explorer (better passenger comfort) on the Softail Slim I had. A set of Rinehart SlipOns make that Milwaukee-Eight sing a beautiful song.
@@thtigmif Sure, understand. My friend went this route instead of a Sportster for the little difference in price and wanted new. She took private lessons for 6 weeks and is riding good. I agree it has a lot of power and torque for some but she thankfully was able to handle it.

I pick up my 2021 FXST on 2/27. Rode HD's for 30 years and have been away from the brand for 10 years now. Looking forward to re-engaging with HD again. The new M8 motor, frame, suspension and minimalist look drew me back once again. I'll be keeping my 2015 Indian Chieftain for trips.

I have this bike. You are spot on with the seat comfort. There are a few options, but you almost have to look for street bob seats to actually find them. Options are getting better though. I also fully agree with buying this bike to build, which is what I did.
Yes the stock seat sucks so bad looks good but that's it and anything that fits a new street bob fits this one i always just look for street bob parts when I want something for it

I love just about everything about this bike. It’s a great platform to do whatever you want to it without having to buy everything you want it to be already built from the factory. You don’t like harleys fairings? That’s cool you can get your own elsewhere. Only thing I don’t like is it only comes in black. I’d love one in white. But that’s what’s great about it. Nice bike, a few changes I would make and that's just me. (#1) I never liked turn signals clamped on the handle bars, drop them down to the forks along side the headlight. That also frees up the clean look to the front. (#2) I would change the handle bar size to Chubby for a thick look and feel. (#3) Nice looking pipes but you have to hear them..... Nice Bike!
Great review as always..appreciate you putting the time and effort in..I’m on the fence with either a street bob or roadster..6’ and 250lbs..can the roadster work for me? Not any vids showing larger guys on roadsters riding or even just sitting on one..thanks
I was told by a mate who works at Harley that the 107 is the better engine for the softail because the gearbox doesn't play as nice with the 114. The 114 is the better engine for the tourers.
Also the 107 feels “snappier” then the 114. It pulls harder in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Where the 114 has the advantage is in the highway. It pulls harder in 5th and 6th (more passing power).
Good'ol test-ride videos! It never gets tired!!!I've mentioned this before, but I'm not sure how many would enjoy but it would be great to see you test-riding a Diavel/Diavel X and/or a Rocket III!Stay safe!!
Very good review, also in 2023. I'm a big fan of the laced wheels too and thanks to your review I made the decision for the softail std and not a Sportster 1200.
Me and a friend went to Buddy Stubbs HD in phoenix AZ where we are staying now for school went to look at a cheap softail but it was sold by the time we got there. We ended up at Arrowhead HD another dealership not to far away and they pointed me to the softail standard just waiting to get financing on it. I'm coming from a 2003 Honda shadow 750 ace.
I just got my Softail Standard 2 weeks ago and only thing I didn’t like was exhaust (sounds like it’s from the jetsons) and the seat! I’m saving up for those can’t wait to build mine (club style bike)
I swear that every time I look at the Standard or the Slim for the first second I see a panhead engine in them. It must be the combination of classic styling + black cylinders with chrome heads and pushrod covers.
The local Harley dealer has persuaded me to come and test ride one this weekend, although I have been looking at the 1200 Iron. As he hasn't got a 1200 Iron in stock, I suspect he may be trying to sell me what he has got. But I do like the minimalist look of this bike.
I traded my 2019 iron 1200 in for one of these. Everything is just sooooo much better compared to the sportster, nice actually have suspension. Gonna be buying a saddlemen seat for it, still trying to figure out what type of exhaust i want. Going between the Two Brothers Racing and Bassani's "new" road rage short/shorty whatever they call it.
Great bike and I like the options but they really should go a step further. It should come stripped down no bars, grips, seat, exhaust, you select the style you want. Then your not paying for crap your just going to take off anyway. Great vid.
I'm a newbie to motorcycles. Still need to take a riding course. However if I were to buy a motorcycle, I would want this Soft Tail. But walk before you run, so take a safety training class first.
I used to love the Street Bob until I sat on it at the Int'l Motorcycle show and now I really dont like it at all anymore. He's spot on about the seat comfort. I went from that and then jumped on a Slim and that was so much more comfortable
If I had new bike money in hand, I would definitely be looking at the standard as a second bike (my current is a 2000 XL1200 custom). I’ll be honest though. I kinda want to see you ride the flagship bikes from BMW: the RnineT pure, 1250GS, and S1000RR. Some of my favorite videos of yours are always when you go “off the reservation” as it were. Awesome video!!
I know this is kinda meant as a blank canvas (as others have stated), but wish it came with options to purchase "the blank canvas" with the 114 or the 117, and a 5gal tank would be a nice option. And yes I know you can get those after market.
I can definitely see a market for this bike, but for me I would probably opt for the Street Bob. I prefer the black over the chrome and even though I would change a lot on either one I would spend more than the $1000 difference just in blacking out the parts I wouldn't change on the Street Bob. For someone who wanted to save the extra money this would be a better option. My biggest complaint is the gas tank. It isn't even the size that bothers me so much as the look of the tank. Looks too much like the 1200 Custom or the Street 750 tank. I think maybe a tank lift would improve it.
I'll stick to my Low Rider, but if anything were to happen to it, I could maybe see snagging the Standard with the Stage II already installed. I think this thing will fly out of showrooms once people start customizing and showing them off!
Seriously considering this bike. Depends if there is something on the Streetbob already worth the $1500 markup. Other than a lifetime of not having to polish all that aluminium and chrome.
How about the Softail Sport Glide? Yeah, it’s more $$$ but it’s got so much more to offer. The best part are those gorgeous mantis wheels! Or maybe the best part is the quick detach bags. Or that cool looking mini fairing, also quick detach. Or that cruise control comes standard. As always, good video!
Ya, I love the Harley-Davidson Softail Standard, That's Probably one I would Want, If I still worked in a Dealership. I used to Work In a Dealership, !

I know this is kinda meant as a blank canvas (as others have stated), but wish it came with options to purchase "the blank canvas" with the 114 or the 117, and a 5gal tank would be a nice option. And yes I know you can get those after market.
Thanks man, great review! Best wishes from the Netherlands.
Those are slick starter bikes or a bike that you really want to build up the way you want. Nice video keep up the good work.
I PICK MINE UP JANUARY 28th I’m EXCITED ❗️❗️
Like how that right turn signal turned left. Turn signals should be located somewhere else vs handlebars
What if you want a USB port for it? Will you be able to buy 1 from Harley dealership?
if can change to 48 gas tank, bullet headlight and king queen seat, this bike will look great, old school look
I wish that there was at least an option for the 114. Now with the 117 coming out, maybe H-D will bump up to the 114 on the Softail Standard
Ya, I love the Harley-Davidson Softail Standard, That's Probably one I would Want, If I still worked in a Dealership. I used to Work In a Dealership, !
Orlando? That's where my mom (not successful. she dumped the street 500, the smallest harley they made) and stepdad went to get their endorsements to ride my mom's vespa. I need to get out there for some test rides someday
Basically a Street Bob with chrome.
Only thing I would change on the bike is the exhaust and I would put a rims instead of spoked
