any talk Hedges gives he always cites Wolin's inverted totalitarianism and Marx's quote about unfettered capitalism being a revolutionary forces. Glad he got to interview Wolin

It's really great that you're doing these interviews as there's not much online with Prof. Wolin. He's very interesting!

Greatly appreciated interview, in Canada if a paid day was proposed for voting or even a day off without pay, the cries would be deafening. So Hobbs it is, we give up our citizen rights; which empower those who do not want democracy

wait - did he say the solution is to give up our citizen rights!?!

I was wondering the same thing. But, found a transcript and He says the solution is to surrender your political rights.

You have to take into account the context. What Prof. Wolin was saying that the type of vicious economic system we've built, where you either have to choose to work (i.e. living paycheck to paycheck, which is very much a reality for most people, just to keep a roof over your head and feed your family) is in direct competition with a person's democratic duties and rights, such as voting or fighting for political change (which require a lot of energy and active participation).
What Prof. Wolin was saying is that given the choice between the two, people have the propensity to choose the former, which in turn demoralizes people for actually trying to change structural problems. What he was trying to say that this was essentially similar to giving up your democratic rights.

they don't go into why Father Coughlin became anti-Semitic. It again comes down to observing who had the money and the power. People can't just keep dismissing these facts. Lots of people come to the same conclusions.

Why not illuminate us, then? why do people become attracted to fascists and sociopaths? What's your qualified opinion on that? Perhaps, you also know the entire 18 centuries-long history of antisemitism and all the reasons for it. Is it the people *with* or *without* the money who had created and used antisemitic and other racists myths and policies?
