From what I've gathered by Dan's descriptions is that the 4th CLY had a lot of clever chaps who devised a unique kit to make their tanks into amphibious vehicles. We always hear about the American "Yankee ingenuity" but here is palpable evidence of British cleverness. The attitude within this outfit was "What? A river to cross without a tank supportable bridge? We'll just see about that!" A few improvised items later and presto! This was a brilliant example of the British soldiers' ability to "Adapt and overcome" as most Cavalry units throughout history have managed to do. Loved the presentation.

I love how Dan Taylor talks to himself during the phone interruption, “Bad machine. Do concentrate.” At 33:45 the high profile of the Sherman perhaps an unintended advantage. Wet gap crossing is one of the most challenging maneuvers required of any Army.

Just got to this show. Absolutely brilliant. Those river crossing photos are stunning. The bravery and ingenuity. Thanks for another great presentation.

Dan is great to talk to in person - my uncle was 4th CLY but captured in N Africa and he is a real mine of information!

Another outstanding presentation. I knew about the US crossing of the Volturno but this is the first presentation I have heard on the British crossing.
