There was this mix, the Carnage mix and a lesser known mix call Hibakusha mix. The voice on the record is Patrick Allen. They used him as he had actually recorded an official voice over for the Government at the time on how to react if a nuclear attack happened.
I was just after listening to the Annihilation and say your May 2021 reaction. That siren at the beginning gave me the shivers and made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Brilliant music, & lyrics and vocals by Hollie Johnston's vocals! The monologues recited by the actor impersonating Ronald Regan; is brilliant. As is the announcer advising what to do in an airstrike. Trevor Horn was producer and the sound quality, from his production, is second to none. It was a worrying time in the 80's with the cold war then as it was in the early 1960's. I believe that there were different remixed for months. I love the quip "War breaks out, and nobody turns up!"
WOW, fantastic mix, remember when this was released. Great to revisit and the reminder of the Apocalypse we were all told was about to happen. Thanks for reacting.
@@lordlockdown64 I'm afraid I had an anti Frankie t shirt that said 'F... what Frankie says'. My mom told me to not to wear it in public after I got refused service in a few shops. I was 17 at the time lol.
I had to go listen to the original again to compare. This one is definitely darker and more ominous. The original seems almost upbeat by comparison. I remember Relax being a big hit, and the band had a cameo in the 1984 thriller movie Body Double. After that, I picked up Welcome to the Pleasuredome and would play the hell out of it. It's one of those albums that are great to listen to from start to finish. In fact, I'm going to do that as I work today. "The world is my oyster..."
Loved the Muttley Crew tshirt, hope to find one here. Now Two Tribes is essential Frankie, we used to use it for the High School Basketball team I coached, and it usually freaked out the other team
a musical Trip through the Cold War in the 80`s...Timeless Band !! Sting did a amazing Song too called "Russians"....it gives back the Chills to me when i think back that Time
This was *the* crucial 12" mix of TT. Carnage Mix was the second most important. Somehow no one mix had absolutely everything in it that one might like...
"We're living in a land where sex and horror are the new God's". This used to be called the 12 inch, my copy has nothing about ("Annihilation") I must have been "with it" back in '84 without even knowing how hip I was. It's very strange to think we were dancing at the hippodrome to a song about (anti) nuclear war, what a strange but pleasurable age we grew up in. What a warped species we are😲🤪😁😆😂🤣
@@gpreactions3194 how true that is makes you wonder if ants have their reminiscentes of "that time we raided that colony", or sharks giving it the "that wasn't a fight when I was your age I had 3 dolphins at once", ...NO?, Just me then.....😳🤪
Think the nuclear instructions was from the real notebook as in the bbc once banned "the war game" semi documentary? Ztt records did loads of remixes as they did with the band Propaganda. loved dancing to this and didn't get asked to stop unlike the relax track :-)
Strange you can dance to death and destruction, but not sexual liberation; what a strange time we lived in, I wouldn't have missed it for the world... Dear Melenials, You're welcome
Hahahaha. You know this song girl. Relax was filthy. 🇬🇧🤣🤣🤣🤣 Love from Glasgow. The speech he makes is from the 1923 trial of Adolf Hitler . Very weird . You may pronounce us guilty a thousand times over etc. I'm not a nazi just awake but not woke. 🇬🇧😍🇬🇧🤣 Fcuking hate racism. I'll let you know about more songs you should listen to. Really love your videos Joe x. Hello by the way! 🇬🇧🤣 I'm 55 in April. 🤣😭
Black gas - oil. This version removes many of the backing vocals so that makes it bleaker and more solo. At the time I was 13 so I enjoyed the energy and catchiness.
If you remember this track from 1984 so badly that you need to react to THIS (the album) version of it, then darlin (sorry, a sexist but era-appropriate term ;) you have to ask yourself whether you were really paying attention back in the day. I was there too. For that 12 year-old me this and those nuclear war movies defined the era. Completely and forever. Traumatically, actually (I still have nightmares about it all).
When I about 13 just about everyhing scared me, so I probably just avoided watching the UK version of a nuclear war. Also, I never got to choose what to watch on television, that was my Dad's job, I was way down the pecking order, plus my dad maybe witnessed enough horrors during the war that he chose not to watch dramatised horrors on television. FGTH two tribes did bring that scenario home to me of what could happen but the video seemed oddly ridiculous at the time and definitely took the edge off my fears. But saying that there was plenty enough other reminders of impending nuclear destruction on the news and even one of my brothers had a book called the 3rd World War that detailed exactly what would happen to my city and the exact area I lived in. Being told about that book scared me a lot. As an aside to this, in 1984 I did remember being scared by the concept of an alien invasion having had several strange experiences when I was younger and then in '84 'V' came out. When I was 11 - 13 there was a couple of stories on the 6 O' clock news about multiple sightings of UFOs, I then watched War of the worlds (1950s) for the first time when I was 11, so even though you got scared by the threat of nuclear war at the age of 12, I got scared by the hint of alien invasion at roughly the same age. In 1984 I was 17 and one of 4 million unemployed, I had lots of other issues on my mind that year.

Yeah I loved that line too. And i find that the air raid siren has the same affect on me. x

Great record.....still have the vinyl record....a perfect record for that particular time.
Ditto
We partied our 🫏🫏off to this at the clubs in 83-85!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🎶🎶🕺🏿
12”s of absolute art
I used to blast this out my window in 84 to scare my neighbours. 🇬🇧🤩🤣🤣🤣
Lol. The siren would have scared them. Haha
I usually wasn't a big fan of mixes and 12-inch versions but this one was fantastic. Like you say, much more ominous than the original.
Great remix I've never heard this version. Shall be playing this a lot now.
Loved the original version, it takes me back to the glorious 80s when life and music was amazing (for me).
Did you have a 'Frankie Says' t-shirt? x
@@gpreactions3194 Haha no did you?

What a track! So powerful!

Sting; the Russians love their children too.
The Cold War didn't tail off, it reached a fever pitch in the 80s, then fell off a cliff.
When I was in my late teens in the 80's they played war sirens to mark something . Terrifying
That is a lang time ago i both it and stil love the muziek fgth

I'm full of such fun facts. 🤣🤣
I loved this when it came out but if I'm honest I prefer the single release version
Black gas - oil.

I was thinking afterwards whether it was oil, so I'm glad you got that too x
My school went through drills for this when I was 8 to 10
Bet that was scary. x
They told that to us as kids during the cold war

Everyone over 10 was responsible for a younger child
