What a handy little piece of equipment! Y’all certainly have a knack for finding and using all types of cool stuff like this! I do have a handheld tachometer as well. But it’s not one that will read the rpm from a plug wire. I gotta put reflective tape on what I want to read. Or there’s also a tip that goes on it you can touch to whatever it is you’re trying to read. I’ve tried that like twice on the flywheel screen. Doesn’t work out to well the little rubber tip goes flying every time 😄 anyway great tool review thanks for sharing it!

I have one of those somewhere! I think I saw Chichanic using one of these years ago. I seem to be using this more and more. Glad you found it helpful!

These newer generation digital tachometers are sure handy to have around. I have a super cheap digital optical style. I'm kind of curious to know why your c160 idles so low. Kohler Spec on minimum RPM is 1,200 I believe. My understanding is, below that you run the risk of not having enough cooling air or engine oil movement.

I could turn it up. I hardly ever idle it for any length of time. That’s a good point thought. Next time I have it out I’ll turn it up to 1200 to be safe.

I’ve had one for a couple of years now and found that in order to use it without the lead I have to hold the unit against the plug wire on the left side of the unit where the lead wire would plug into. The end of the unit is just a light that I have never found any use for. Mine does not work when I try to use the end of the tach. The readings jump up and down way too much. I’m not happy with my purchase and wish I had gone for something more reliable.
