    When you showed the right side from heel end, I could see a hump...like a back bow or too much relief, but then when you went to the left side it looked straight. But there are some angles you can see the twist...hard thing to put on camera, you did a good job.

      The thumbnail for this video was the first time that I was ever able to see an actual twist. First Rate! Keep it up, Randy.

    You can totally see how the neck shifts as you go up and down the board. Absolutely tragic. I'm glad it's still under warranty.

    My Epiphone LP was the same and the guitar store would not take it on a trade in saying it was unfixable. It played and sounded good. I gave it away.

    Hello!
    Thank you for the video!
    I'm about to buy a new Custom Shop Strat with 10-46 string gauge. The tech in the store measured the relief and the bass side reads 0.085" and the treble side reads 0.010".
    a 0.0015 difference.
    Do you recommend buying this one?
    I heard that more relief on the bass side is preferable.

    In the seventies, both Fender and Gibson shipped a fair amount of guitars with twisted necks, to the great frustration of many. But, maybe it wasn't a lack of quality control, as we've all been saying. Maybe... just maybe... they were secretly wishing to get into the light aircraft industry...

    I bought a 700 dollar jackson ms dinky archtop 8 string off of a guy from Canada (im American) 6 months back. The condition was rated very good and said only had minor bumps and scratches but played perfectly, the reason for him selling it said was that he had started using seven strings a lot more and just haven’t touched it for a bit. the guitar never sounded great but it was alright, I haven’t really had much time to sit down and play the guitar as it has been my first year of college, and I have been busy. Recently, I’ve had free time to really sit down and figure out what the problem is. It’s neck is twisted and warped in 2 different directions. I haven’t been able to contact the guy who sold it to me and I don’t think reverb can do anything, it’s a Neck through (Guitar) so there’s no way to remove the neck. I brought it to my local (Guitar) store and they said there’s almost no way to make this play good ever again. I’m bringing it to the theater tomorrow to see if there’s anything I can do. If not, I wasted $700 from a person scamming me and reverb.

    I have a LTD with neck thru and cant REPLACE IT i cant Shred or solo on it because of dead notes and i bought it in 2017 and I've tried to have this fixed and i would have to have my fingerboard removed and the neck plained. Being a neck thru body i CANT REPLACE THE NECK like a bolt on neck. I have an LTD FM-300 Series that is not repairable. The locking nut for the trem was stripped and i couldnt get proper replacement nut so my strings are 3/16" above the fingerboard at frets 1&2 so i can't even fret a clear note this was a NO SHRED NO GO GUITAR FOR ME. This is my bad experience of having a TWISTED GUITAR NECK.

    Hey sir Randy, i've adjust my truss rod neck. in this case, my neck on the low e string is looking straight, but on the high e string is bow forward. How's that possible?

    • @redlinemando
      @redlinemando 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Remember, a little bow is necessary or a guitar with low action will be prone to buzz. It's more common to see bow on the treble side with a straight or straighter bass side. You would think that there would be more stress on the bass side, but more bow always seems to occur on the treble side. This doesn't necessarily mean you have a twisted neck, but anyone should be aware of such changes & to inspect the neck every so often to see if one side is seeming to change more than the other. It is also worthy to note that humidity changes will effect neck relief as well. Sudden & drastic humidity changes can & will cause a neck to bow & sometimes twist so be aware of weather conditions when you ship instruments. Late spring & early fall are, in my opinion, the best times to ship with more ideal temperatures, but your location may be different.

  • @LazarusSchell

    Twisted necks are actually common….. But they take years to happen. If it’s a new neck, then it definitely a manufacturer problem.

  • @rockabillyray2236
    @rockabillyray2236 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Might the reversed headstock cause the longer bass strings to stress one side of the neck more than the other?

    • @RandySchartiger
      @RandySchartiger  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      that's a good possibility! the head stock really wasn't designed for string stress in the way it is applied here, and the entire neck is twisted rather than just twisted in one spot. thanks for this idea and thanks for watching!

    Hey Randy, could you ship Earl's neck to NJ? Ever try to twist Earls neck? Of course he'd probably like it and insist on a twist everyday! I tried to do a bit of a set up on a friends guitar, about $200 axe new, and the neck was twisted. I did the best I could and it was better but it's hard to make a Hugo into a Cadallac. But it turned out better than it was. I did indeed see that twist and that would be a hard thing to correct. I'd think about all you could do is make a new neck with some top of the line seasoned wood and reuse the fret board and tuners. But it would be cheaper just to buy a new one I recon, eh? Thanks for yet another THTNS video, much appreciated. May be you could adjust Earl's neck with a chain saw or do you think he'd like that? Thanks Kindly Bro! Blessings to All At THTNS from DaveyJO p.s. I think you need Peanuts!

    • @RandySchartiger
      @RandySchartiger  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ah yes a great idea adjusting Earls neck with a chainsaw! surely that would not be enjoyable for him as it would for me lol yeah may be able to take off the fret board and plane the neck flat. I've had success in forcing the twist out along with fails, but clamping it flat under heat and humidity sometimes works. thanks for having a look brother!

    It’s a real bummer when you go to all the trouble you did to get the setup perfect only to find out that you have wasted all of that time and energy. Don’t knock yourself out over this incident Randy - After you have played the instrument and everything and everything seems fine, you don’t feel the need to check for neck twisting😥. Take care my friend.

    Honestly you never held the camera level with the rosewood reveal line. Always tilted the camera a little. It also looks like some of the file work wasn't to profile radious. . Looks like a hump from the frets, but the wood looked ok. Not sure on camera, frets shouldn't buzz after a good set up too bad. If there is enough relief, you shouldn't hear buzzing alot. Maybe when you strum or pick hard.

    • @RandySchartiger
