Great build James! By watching the previous videos, I know you're an accurate builder, so I was surprised the formers F8 and F9 did not end up on top of the cross bars...not even close. Before glueing on F8 I think I would have held a straight bar on top of the upper stringer, just to make sure it wasn't sagging or bulging. Keep up the good work !
Thanks, well it was weird. I did check to see if perhaps it was bowing upward or something, but it was pretty straight, I checked the angle of the two laminated formers up front, and the rear cross piece in front of the horizontal stabilizer cant go anywhere else. So its all in the correct places, but both formers had to be pushed back to meet. And the cross pieces are also in the correct spot. So all I can say is that there have been a few fit issues with this kit and this may be another? Or I made a mistake, but I have not identified where I went wrong if thats the case. Ill have to check it further. Thanks again.
Well done. From the camera angle it looked as if the upper former didn’t align with the supports in the bottom fuselage. I think I would have added a brace in the fuselage under the former to give it more support and a larger glue surface.
Yes, the fit was off. I placed the large former at the proper angle and then the first stinger, but the two remaining formers had to be slid back to meet. But that pushed them beyond the cross supports, more fit issues with this kit
@@JamesRCPlaneTech well you are doing a fantastic job. I bought the smoothie after your last build, thinking I will pass on this one. Plus I plan to fly it on electric power and it’s a little big.
Thanks a lot. Ya this is the biggest plane I have built. And yes, the formers did not end up right on top of the cross braces, another fit issue. Instructions did say that they may do that. I may add additional braces like you mentioned
Love your build serieses James. Informative and no short cuts. Would like to know why you don't use Epoxy, but you usually use CA isn't considered weak?. Also, would be nice to show how you adjust the angle of the engine to obtain optimum thrust. Is it ok to use gas rather than nitro even the manufacturer doesn't mention the gas option? Would like to see also installation of a gas engine and a tank, maybe a 10cc stinger. Still watching the Barnstormer video , then will move to USA smoothly then the rest. Thank for sharing your knowledge. Tought me alot.
Hi, thanks a lot, I appreciate it. CA is really strong, and good for much of the building. But epoxy is even stronger and the best for things like firewall and landing gear. You could use epoxy for more but thats a lot of mixing. For this kit, the thrust angle is along center, they don’t have it angled. Im still wondering why, and need to confirm it. But if I need to I will show it. I will be using a DLE-20 and will show mounting it when I get to that step. Thanks
Hello I am about to start building this kit. On their website they mentioned that you can build the wing in two halves… Is this something you are going to do? I have the dye cut kit and did not see any mention about being able to build the wing in two pieces that can be assembled at the field. Just curious if your instructions have an update that mine do not?
Beautiful, like watching art being created.
James, it’s coming along nicely!
Thanks!
Super merci 😊👍

Hi, I’ll have to take a look at the website. I don’t recall seeing that note. It’s not in the instructions. I built mine as one piece. It is long.
