    The test pilots wear orange flight suit to aid in visually spotting them for recovery if some reason they have to bail out from the aircraft in flight. All Airbus test aircraft feature an escape hatch inside the fuselage for them to evacuate from in an emergency. A first flight is basically flying into the unkown despite gazillions of computer model and wind tunnel testing. Nobody knows what is really going to happen hence the orange suits and parachutes just as a precuation.

    In my humble opinion, the A346 is the most beautiful airliner in production today.
    I sure wish I could have one for a private plane! That's class, elegance and style!

    The A340-600 still is the most elegant commercial aircraft existing nowadays IMO.
    And as a frequent traveler it's still my favourite aircraft be aboard, too. So incredibly quieter than all those noisy twins (A330 and B777), so smooth (haven't tried the A380 yet).
    Too bad that her higher fuel consumption is slowly making it vanish from airline fleets :-(

    That is actually the typical rotation in an A340-600. The pilots do not rotate the aircraft to more that 10 degrees until the aircraft lifts off of the ground. This is due to the tail strike risk the extra length causes.

      +Andrew Anane One of the. Although it does have quite the impeccable safety record, the 777, 767, and 747 compare pretty well with it. I would agree though that she is a beauty and a very sleek-looking aircraft.

      Not sure how you came to this conclusion that the A340-600 is the safest plane. According to wiki, only 97 of these planes were built and came into service in 2002 and many of this type are being withdrawn from service so not many of this type are flying today. Unless the A340-600 are produced in quantities similar to other types, you can't conclude that this is the safest plane.

    It depends who the manufacturers for the engines are for example Rolls Royce is in Britain but GE and Pratt & Whitney are in America (and some of Canada). Parts are also made in Sweden, Australia, Japan, etc. Airbus and Boeing are more worldwide than most think they are!

    Best passenger aircraft I've ever travelled on, for the reasons above amongst others. Also the most aesthetically pleasing of all Airbus's, though could be supplanted by the A350.

  • @aspiringdrummer17
    @aspiringdrummer17 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @SuperMole666 They did actually use the whole '4 engines are better than 2 thing' during the advertising campaign when the A340 first came out. It showed a picture of the A340 flying over stormy seas with a paragraph underneath stating "If you're over the middle of the Pacific, you want to be in the middle of four engines." You can probably still find the picture on google if you look for it

    He didn't really get caught in ground effect at all (which is interesting because the 330 generally "floats" forever) - yet both aircraft share very similar wings.
    This is a BEAST of a plane - those super high bypass engines just give it a really muscular look over the -300s

    @m3stw4nted Gear down is only at take off to reduce work load in case of an emergency. Gear is always cycled at least once in flight. Even the A380 B787 have flown gear up on firs flight.

  • @Zone5Aviation
    @Zone5Aviation 11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Test flights are done with the wheels down because firstly it is a seperate test to be carried out on another test flight and secondly because it is scheduled for another test flight, they don't want to risk rasing the wheels on the first flight and then find there is a fault with it and then they can't land or risk damaging a brand new aircraft by doing a wheels up landing.

    I've flown several times in this beast. Quiet plane ride, but the isles and ceiling seemed smaller than 747, doesn't really matter, cause the ride on both of them sucks if it's not first or business. Your're essentially sardened into seats for hours.
    But frankly speaking I could care less. I just want a comfortable trip. Airlines seem to be making bigger planes to add more seats, not provide greater comfort.

    • @visionist7

    Just think about it: not even a year before 9/11/01 did the A340-600 first took to the yonder blue. It could've been an A340-600! But, United and American don't have the pencil-shaped plane, as my friend would say. Oh and also 6ish years before the A380 came out with nearly 13 years prior to the a350-1000 XWB! Look how far Airbus has come! Congrats, Airbus! ;P

    It isn't retarcted because the plane doesn't fly at high altitudes and generally, there is always an escort plane filming the undercarridge to see how the gear reacts in an open position. Generally after take-off or before landing when the aircraft is between 100 & 2000 ft.
