Bet that kind of like the way he announced how many times Obama had played golf and how he'd be too busy working too ever golf. The touching moment was when Hillary moved out. She took van loads of White House furniture, rugs, china services and gifts to previous presidents. When the curators reported the missing property, the Clintons asked for an appraisal, paid a couple of hundred thousand and the story was not leaked for months. I believe the expression for Hillary is "she has taking ways."
Wow, seeing this in mid Nov 2020, we're still waiting for Trump to do some work. And Matt Lauer pre me too. lol.

This is such a load of crap. There are about two months where things get packed and items are moved prior to inauguration day. When you have a permanent residential staff of nearly 100 people and additional contractors for the day it isn't a big deal. Many countries have an official executive home for their leaders and change out the furniture. You even pictured furniture and items that aren't personal items, but part of the permanent collection.
I'm watching this from all the way in the United States Virgin Islands ! ! !
So what they do with the old furnitures...do the former president gets to take the old furniture or are they donated or are they in storage?....
My guess is they can probably take what they want and the rest probably goes to charity or auction far removed from the WH.
In the past, first families would routinely auction-off or donate old pieces and purchase new but that's no longer allowed. The first family can only take those items that they brought with them. Anything that is donated (even if it's intended for the private quarters) is considered property of the White House. There is a warehouse full of furniture from which the first families can chose.

With a staff of specialists and historians, her White House Historical group identified pieces of furniture from particular presidents, had the rooms repainted, period pieces bought to match the presidential terms, all supported by charitable contributions.
I believe, among the vanloads Hillary took on her departure, were many of the pieces of furniture chosen by Jacky.

Donald Trump has never been known for his refined good taste but the redesign of the oval office was tastefully restrained (but a bit uninspiring) - it is very much in the style of East-coast elites who have had money their entire lives. The Obama's interior was more stylish and interesting - but also obviously the tastes of a younger President and First Lady (and without being snobbish, quite nouveau-riche tastes). Melania Trump will never get the credit she deserves for the excellent restoration of some of the formal rooms at the White House - they were very well done with traditional taste.
