I was serving at a volunteer Fire Department and we had an original 1960 Chevy fire truck. I asked around and everyone agreed that it would not run, had not for years, but we could not sell it and no money could be spent on it. I decided just to play around with it, and after checking everything (as you did) realized that the plug wires were all wrong...8 changes later and it ran like a champ. Brakes...none, and no chance of getting any because no money was available, but it ran just fine.

I've seen that ignition problem before, when I was in the Navy. A guy in my division had a friend who "knows all about cars" do a tuneup for him, after which the car failed to start, so he asked me to look at it. In about 20 minutes, I determined that the ignition wires were not hooked up in the correct firing order, and that rather than align the new rotor properly in the distributor, the guy who worked on it had simply jammed it onto the shaft. I got the car to run again and advised him to get a new rotor, since the one his friend installed had been damaged. Rather than take my advice, he drove home 600 miles on leave. He did make it back to the ship on time, so I guess the repairs I made were effective.

One is "Never trust the default" and the other was, "When all else fails, question your assumptions". In other words, always double-check the obvious things first, never assume they are correct. As you pointed out, always check the last guy's work, don't assume he did anything correctly. As the old saying goes, "Assumption is the Mother of all F***-ups."

I've been in the honda scene for years and as soon as the hood came open I shouted THE WIRES ARE WRONG into the screen lol! And the hunting idle is standard IACV problem. So weird hearing you call the ECU a PCM though haha. Refreshing to see a non-honda guy work on one of these. They're dead simple. That bumper will pop out just fine with some hot water as well.
the brake lines are downgrade, the 4th generation civic actually had the lines running inside the cabin and they would never rot out, but they moved it outside for the 5th and 6th gen (the one in the video is a 6th gen civic). they share the same suspension design otherwise.

I got my son a used Honda Civic. Did lots to fix the thing up. After he got married he did some work to it and for some reason drained the coolant and when he refilled it he just put water in the over flow and drove it. Well we bought a replacement used motor and that motor came from Japan. The firing order was different from the original. We had to swap everything to the replacement motor including spark plugs wires and all ignition stuff. Went by the manual he had on the original but after checking everything else like you did finally thought let’s pull the cover and turn it over by hand and see just what the firing order was by the valves.

Wes, if you're interested in a dual mic setup (sounded like she was wearing just the one), I picked up the Hollyland Lark 150. It comes in a case that charges it and it's dual channel, with knobs for mic level on each channel. It sounds pretty good to me and you can adjust the levels on the fly very quickly. It's also a lot cheaper than the Rode Go 2, which is one of the major considerations for me, but the all-in-one charging case is super handy.

That car will still outlast your new vehicles. I bought one new in 1999 ...it is my ONLY car. The ONLY car that I have driven in 23 years and it is still outperforming most cars built in the last 5 years. Mine has 250k. I have seen them go 600k without issues.
Uses no oil or trans fluid. It has only had routine maintenance. The total amount of money I have spent on transportation since 1999 is $14,688 for the new car, and less then $3,000 in maintenance including oil changes since I have had it. How many people do you know who have spent less than 20k total transportation money in 23 years. I have not found a better engineered car in the history of automobiles. Also: Those were the best selling cars of their day and boy racers loved them so aftermarket and used parts are more common than any other cars. Alternators for $25. All four brakes with rotors for about $50. The only real problems is that the swing arm bushings dry rot and fixing them is a pain (but they make aftermarket rear suspensions for them that are cheaper than replacing the swing arms. The head gaskets let go if you pound the car too hard. But all minor stuff.

I'm only 2:46 in, and already pining for my 2002 Civic. What a car that was, 300k km and zero, yes zero major problems. Can I list the problems I had? 1: A windshield wiper arm that failed. 2: Camshaft oil seal that leaked. 3: One, yes one 10mm rust spot on the roof. ( live at the coast) It ran all those years on factory air con gas, factory clutch, factory shocks. It was serviced on time, every time and only had wear items replaced, the usual brake pads and shoes, tyres, belts and batteries, plugs, filters, fluids...and still gave me 16+ km per litre at highway speed.

Thanks again Wes. I love watching you work. I was baffled why that car wouldn't run but I knew it had to be for a reason and I could feel your frustration. That's always when you gotta check everything again. I had a 1970 Plymouth Grand Fury Sport that would die for no apparent reason. I went the entire electrical system and it would start and run fine. But when you drive over a hard bump like railroad crossing it would die. It was body flex at the main connection at the fire wall. Half was inside half was in the engine compartment. A single long bolt running through the connector had broken in the middle and was cutting all power when just a tiny bit of separation occurred. It was a very poor design. After several cycles of towing the car back to the shop I called my uncle who was the service manager a master mechanic at a Ford dealership in New York. He laughed and told me he had run into that very problem on the same kind of car. I separated the connector found the broken bolt and replaced it. Problem solved. Then it came back when the 727 torque flight ✈️ took flight. Have a great day. Old school engine's basic ignition would have been banging and back fireing even with the wires all wrong.

I had a "76 Scout II Traveller that had the same issue as your Plymouth, only it was designed with no bolt, and a " Mechanic" secured it with bailing wire across the back of the connector, secured with sheetmetal screws to the firewall. it only took about 6 months for the bailing wire to cut through the insulation of a main power wire and dead short it to the chassis.

Just beginning the video, but I had one of these 1992 I believe. Had some issues with it dying. Turned out it was the ignition module. There's a couple of them but it was the one under the rotor on the dizzy. The distributor would get hot being on it's side up on the head getting starved of oil. Once it cooled off it would start and run fine...would be tolling down the road and just shut off like you turned the key off. Also would go thru dist. Caps fairly regularly. Couldn'tsee any cracks, but cold foggy mornings it would light up like a plasma globe, they just got too hot and baked everyhing....well let's see where it goes 😉👍

Also remembering...the hydraulic clutch always leaked. Never could find the leak but seemed like once a year you'd lose the pedal and have to drive home without a clutch and refill and bleed it. Eventually I had to do an engine swap for a 95 because it started using a quart of oil every 10 gallons of gas. Then the tranny went after it got stolen and taken for a joy ride. Finally got too rusty and gave it to my brother. It's still parked down in the woods. It probably had over 500 k on it before it was finally parked.
