Her sister Angela played Penny Robinson on "Lost In Space." Rod Taylor was actually an English actor. His final role was as Winston Churchill in INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS.

Did you know the blonde character of " Melanie Daniels",she is actress Tipp Hendrin mother of actress Melanie Griffith and grandmother of actress Dakota Johnson. Tippi is so gorgeous. This is one of my favorite movies movies.some people make fun of this movie. In fact we would all be screwed if this happened in out time. There so many different breeds of birds and in the thousands. I'd freak if I'd sleep and birds attacked my house. Is it not like a earthquake even of you were outside you can't escape it. Who agrees ???

Am I the only one that finds it odd that the guy's mother looks exactly like her in 25-30 years? The star of this film, Tipi Hedren actually lived with an African lion in their house. She was married to a lunatic for a while and they made a film called Roar (it's on here). It's the craziest film ever made.. Just hundreds of lions and tigers and leopards and they're living with them. One lion almost scalped her daughter, Melanie Griffith, while filming it and an elephant crushed her leg. She nearly got her eyes pecked out in this film because they were literally throwing birds at her. But through all these crazy animal encounters, she still opened up her own animal sanctuary for big cats etc.
Disturbing Fact : When Mitch was carrying her down the stairs, it was not the actress playing Melanie. Tippy Hedren was in the Hospital suffering from exhaustion.

I guess the fear factor is just not there now a days. It was very scary back in the day. Scared me to death. I'm sure people today think it's very hokie. Hitchcock was a master at suspense. He leaves it up to the audience to decide why the birds attacked.

As an Alfred Hitchcock fan, I loved your commentary! I saw that movie in the theater as a kid; I did look at birds differently after that. I liked the fact that it's never explained why the birds are showing out. Your take on Annie and Melanie was spot on. I had to laugh when you said that if Mitch greenlighted Annie on getting back together, Annie would have slapped Melanie aside getting to him. And as for Mrs. Mundy, well.... I'm looking forward to more movie reactions!
I remember watching this as a child and it was terrifying. It just hit me today watching your reaction; the lovebirds represented Melanie and Mitch. All of the crazy birds were the townspeople. Everybody had something to say or some issue or opinion. The lovebirds out of all the birds were the only ones that were acting normal. I know it sounds weird, but I kind of feel like everybody was against them. In the end they were together. I might not have said that right but, that's just a feeling I got. The lady that said she brought evil to the town was wrong. Maybe she brought clarity and exposure to how the people were, excluding the children of course.
If I were in a Hitchcock picture, I'd be getting in the house as quick as possible. Like the guy in the General Store - apparently if you go to any fishing village in the US, the General Store has to be run by a man with a New England accent lol.
I've seen it many times and I didn't like it because it never exsplained why crows and seagulls were attacking and killing people. And in one town? It's like Melanie was bad luck because everywhere she was birds came and attacked.
When Tippi went upstairs and was attacked by the birds, some of them were tied to her on a string. She had real birds that she could not shoo away and they couldn’t fly. That part traumatized Tippi Hedren.
@@jessicamariepresents6490 To piggyback on that, Tippi Hendren didn't know about the switch to using real birds until the day of shooting. She was hospitalized for three weeks due to nervous exhaustion.
I never understood why those kids didn't stay inside the school instead of having them sent home. And why...did Melanie go in that room upstairs. Sorry...but she got what she got because of that nonsense
Tippi Hedren wondered the same thing. During the filming of that scene, she asked Alfred Hitchcock, "But why would I go upstairs?" He explained, "Because I told you to." 🙂

The character Melanie is played by Tippi Hedren. Tippi named her daughter, Melanie Griffin, after her character.
Just a little FYI: it was the other way around, since Melanie Griffith was born in 1957. She was 6 when "The Birds" was released in 1963.
