Im a pretty harcore dude i to metal music and i always respected LGG as a composer. Singer and performer cu she uses chords used in metal to make it hit hard but thos movie allowed us to see her talent. 😢 This song always hits hard. I’ve struggled with addiction my entire adult life (I’m 32 and clean 3 years) and I’ve lost many friends to addiction. It’s an epidemic that gets no sympathy because it’s so easy to put the fault on the people suffering from it. We don’t want to be addicts, many of us, like me, go through the struggle of getting clean multiple times and just fall back in. It’s not weakness. It really is a disease. And it is depicted so well in this movie/song. I need to stop because I don’t feel like crying tonight.
I understand you 100%,..as a single dad now my girls are my reason but I remember seeing this in theaters and had no idea it dealt severely with addiction , mental health, trauma and suicide so I very quickly ended up in a total bawlin mess. We hold a lot of guilt inside and my mom passed away do brain cancer , always kicking myself I didn’t do This sooner to show her , you jsut end up missing SO much , relationships, people , and so many jsut think an addict thst relapses is jsut a drug addict , they have NO idea how much we often hate our selves, how hard we try and how many times, how difficult withdrawals can be and the side effects of getting clean not being able to sleep and your entire body systems going bonkers. I’d never smoked or drank in my life and hit black ice at 29 years old slid off the highway head in into an overpass. I’ve had severe chronic pain every minute of every day since and I’m 43 now. The ER loaded me up in lain meds to help the pain and literally became physically addicted and dependent on them to not hurt and not experince withdrawal. Often it’s scenarios that could happen to anyone and I wish people would understand how fuckin miserable and hard it is.

I can tell u that the movie is unbelievable and the performance was great , this song got me cause i had a major drinking and drug problem and if it wasn’t for Devine intervention I may have chosen the same route as the character in the movie ,So it hits home to think about those I would have left behind wondering what would have been. You must watch the movie to experience the sound you won’t have a dry eye at the end or during the movie very deep and sad.

No No No....whilst this is exceedingly good, the film version where Bradley sings a couple of bars...that is the real tear jerker...if the tissues do not come out to wipe a tear then, you have a heart of stone. It works as the chemistry between Lady GaGa and Bradley Cooper is just 110% perfect...the film is just awesome and one I'd happily see in a big screen again with full sound as her voice is just incredible.
This song gets to me as well. We watched the movie with my son right after it came out. My husband took his life from alcoholism. We met at AA 12-31- 2007. We went out and were together ever since. I went to his grave on 12-31-20. I watched the movie, I had forgotten how it ended. I was looking thru text messages and my husband had sent Shallow to me. He had been on a relapse for a few years. Had some sober time in between. I participated with him drinking at times. There are several songs that hit me from that movie. I wish I could tell Lady Gaga my story. When I go to bed at nite I listen to those songs. And I will never love again. He was the love of my life. Tomorrow will be six months that he took his life.

Because it’s real. Her best friend Sonja died that day of cancer. She tried to make it to the hospital to say goodbye to her and missed her. She drove back to set and filmed this scene in one take and said she sang it to Sonja.
In the movie version, she is singing live. (All of the songs are live) She had just lost her friend to cancer (I think the day before?) and was singing this to her.
