I was international student before, I’ll explain how it works:
1- The document has a expiration date. Also a note saying “you must leave Canada on this date”.
2- One of the documents I had to attach on my visa application was an intention letter. I had to explain why Canada, how that program was related to my current career, and how it will make me grow as a professional to better serve my country. See the point here? I had to state I intended to go back to my country after my Canadian experience.
3- if you graduate in a 2y program, you will get a 3y work permit. If your intention is actually stay in Canada. That is the time you have to meet the requirements to get the permanent residence.
4- The main Immigration program is the federal one. It is a points based, which will pointed out:
    - Level of education,
    - If you graduated in Canada,
    - Work experience outside Canada
    - Work experience inside Canada,
    - English level
    - Age
4- After the whole 5y (2y college + 3y working) if we cannot get PR, it’s bye bye Canada. Every student knows that very well, since the beginning. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

The problem is the point is unreasonably high these past few years. Unlike before covid where the point was low like less than 400. Things changed since covid. Also, politically speaking immigrants are no longer needed for voting purposes.

    Another point:
Immigration should also start to do something about TH-cam accounts that teach people how to arrive in Canada as a tourist, but actually coming to stay illegally.
They teach even how to answer the questions at the border, how to behave, what documents to show to convince they are tourists (when they aren’t), and after how to find jobs, etc, etc, etc.

Moreover, one would think that their 2nd or 3rd generation have integrated well into the Candian culture, but apparently, they have not. Thoygh they have reached the highest possible office in Canada, but their mentality has not changed. Canadians are raised to not hate and to embrace diversity (including being taught this in all daycares/schools). People need to look at all sides.
India has a 29% unemployment rate amongst it's own graduates. One of the big reasons why young people are leaving India in droves. Plus less than 50% of the 950 million working-age population in India is employed (compared to over 70% in other emerging markets). Amongst the Indian working group, many are self-employed and contain “unpaid helpers in family enterprises”. India has one of the highest emigration rates in the world. As many zero in on education as a way to gain access to a western country?
Did international students/families pay into Canadian taxes all their lives like domestic students have (earning cheaper tuition fees)? No. Plus Canada did NOT tell international students/parents to spend/risk their life savings on a "Canadian dream". Canada did NOT tell international students to borrow money. Canada did NOT promise international students work. Canada did NOT promise international students PERMANENT RESIDENCY.
Meanwhile freelance agents have been operating in an unbridled market in India. Often by painting a distorted picture of what students can receive from Canada. Plus in recent years, a new type of recruitment has cropped up via foreign nationals as many "edu-tech" have created online platforms to connect millions of potential students with the recruiters. The sub-agents have absolutely no no direct connection with the Canadian college. Plus the college has no no ability to control their conduct. Indian sham operations abused/abusing Indian students in person &/or via massive advertising ... PRIMARILY in their native language that most Canadians do NOT understand. They paint a false picture in the minds of their own people (of what Canada could or would or should offer Indians)!
Canadians are seeing Indians protesting & waving their flags on Canadian streets making demands. Because they may not have enough credentials to remain in Canada? And because rules designed to protect CANADA are not meeting their desires? Why isn't there repetitive crowds of African or Caribbean or Filipino etc., students making demands? They're in Canada too. And Canadians are seeing Indian protestors carrying signs telling Canada (one of the most tolerant countries on the planet) to end it's racism (by not deporting)!!! Really angering Canadians.
And even though Canada is being falsely/unfairly blamed for too much, Canada has yet to deport students like crazy (but likely will soon). Instead Canada has been trying trying to find balance of who can stay vs go. While also trying to fix anything Canada did wrong. Create a better future. Why? Because Canadians actually care about doing so for both Canadians and international students.
Canada's own are also victims of the $ greedy Indian 'agents' who misrepresented Canadian PR. Due to a severe lack of homes and entry jobs in Canada partially due to Indian STUDENTS and agents very creatively swarming all post-secondary SCHOOLS, with vast majority fighting for PR versus returning home without it when SCHOOLING ends! Regardless of their qualifications or Canada's needs. Many asking for asylum too (which Indians rarely qualify for). Canada PR has NEVER been tuition purchasable.
    Questions:
⦁ What is India doing about any of this? After Canada told India to halt Ghost Consulting? Many Indians keep saying their politicians are corrupt. Plus Canada didn't have numerous PRIVATE 'diploma mills' until 40% of international students were from India. Many in or near Brampton Ontario, and Surrey British Columbia, where most Indians have lived. Coincidence? Schools that Canada is now shutting down.
⦁ What about all the YT videos that primarily Indian nationals have posted (for half a decade now including today) all advertising Canadian PR like they're selling a shirt? Promoting Canadian visas & permits & schools & jobs etc. etc.. Videos not only posted hourly but rarely in English or French. With very rare input from Canadian citizens.
⦁ What about the IELTS spouses? Anchor babies?
⦁ What about Canadian food banks & other charity services being recklessly advertised on YT in Indian languages?
⦁ What about Canadian housing being scooped up en-mass as investment vehicles by, and for, foreign nationals? Some home rental/boarding signs stating "vegetarians only can apply". Often these 'landlords' also cram 20 students in a small home and charge them each way too much for rent.
⦁ What about Indian nationals buying local businesses then repeatedly putting Indians only in the top tier positions (while also changing familiar work practices)? BC & Ontario are also outlawing the Caste System.
⦁ What about the Sikh vs Hindu violence/extortions across Canada? Diasporas stirring up tribal hatreds (in Canada) even though it all stems from their ancestral home. Why???????
⦁ What about the Canadian government launching investigations in regards to foreign interference in Canadian elections, stemming from Asia continent? Canada also had to end flagpoling at the border.
Canadians are so so so not used to all this!! Do Indians care about Canadians suffering too?
Or do they primarily want to point fingers at the Canadian government etc., when many things weren't in Canada's control (yet)? Why should Canada pay for what Indians did to Indians?
Canadians want multi-culturism to succeed and for all people (including immigrants) to be okay. Now everyone I know is VERY happy with IRCC's recent changes (reductions & multifaceted investigations etc.). Including multi-generational long-term Asian Canadians MOST upset (by all of this).

These are all very valid points. But the problem is that international students are mainly funding education for Canadians. The university will be forced to increase fees for Canadians once the international students drop, thereby making it unaffordable for most Canadians. Now the baby has been thrown out along with the bathwater.

    • @mahalakshmir2404

Actually the cap of 35% will result in more than 50% reduction in international students. Why would they invest close to $300000 for just a graduate degree, without promise of even a basic job. Better for them would be to Invest that money in a start up back home . The effect of this policy will be more fast and dramatic than you would expect.

I think everybody, or at least the most logical people, agree that Canada's current problems (such as high house prices, high unemployment rates, high inflation, etc.) are due to the high rate of immigration. The number of people entering Canada each year is so large that the economy cannot keep up. However, I notice that the current government is run by very disorganized and inconsistent people, as they have stated for years that they want to increase immigration to 500,000 people per year. How is it possible that they are only now recognizing their significant mistake?

The thing about staying 5 years in a country is that people make friends. They decorated their home, they buy a car, they fall in love, make connections. They make roots. To suddenly have to leave all that behind is difficult. I agree with reducing the immigration intake, and still I feel mass deportation is a bit extreme.
