MDR s music was like a magnet when I did not know ABCD of music. Sriramji has presented a nice analysis of why. I recall that a mridangist once said 'people think MDR is slow, only the mridangist knows that is not true'. Importance of sahityam pops out of his music. Where do we stop admiring his music? As Prof. TNK mentioned once, even the aeroplane flying up there aligns with his shruti..

One of the greatest musician... Saraswathi's gift to music... a voice that mesmerized me... a tempo that was vilambit kalams vilambit...where every sound, swaram, every word pronounced was clearly presenting the raga...the first song that sucked me into the world of MDR's music was Mayatheetha Swaroopini... then the Kanada Varnam...many more...I am fortunate to have heard this great musician...

Excellent programme. Murali's prayer rendition was also very touching. No words to tell about Dr.Sriram Parasuram's explanation of MDR's voice & other nuances.

I have listened to multiple lectures from Sri Sriram. He always has great insights into music.
One gentle suggestion is to use a student to play the clippings so that he can continue his thoughts uninterrupted.

My only problem is the sentiment that Sriramji states at around one hour. He says “we” should not sing some Ragas that MDR sung so beautifully. I think otherwise. MDR was showing us students the way and inviting us to discover the Raga too. Don’t be shy. Try.

It should be taken in a metaphorical sense that MDR's music in those ragas as just of another level. We can keep singing them, but it is impossible to reach those heights as MDR

Dr Sriram was addressing figuratively, for sure. It might be intimidating to others, but it is a fact, that the genius of MDR Sir, his sound, dedication towards music, lineage and tutelage, the way he studied and practiced music ("Gurukula sampradaya"), selflessnes, simplicity, and above all his knowledge in South Indian languages were unparallel, that it makes him unique. He has written more than 300 krutis in Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam and all were written in the respective language scripts 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👌👌👌👌👌👌👌✌️✌️✌️

He had a point though. There are some ragas that only he could present. It would take a rebirth to get another MDR.
