Please carry a thermacell with you. I recently had to have open heart surgery because I had a staph infection in my heart from what they think was from mosquito bites. Spencer I hope you see this. And everyone else that reads it do yourself a favor and get thermacells. Awesome video Spencer. I always watch.
When i was a kid, we had the fish for dinner and was glad to have it. Mom always fried it like that. We dug worms in our garden for bait. Used the guts of our chickens. And liver of deer during the season. It all seemed to work. Great video. Stay safe.
Love the videos Spencer. When you mentioned shrimp are more expensive than nightcrawlers- I thought i'd leave a comment. If you take a decent size rubbermaid bin or bucket and fill it up with some dirt, layers of newspaper, and any kitchen scraps and wet it all down so its a little moist, it becomes a great breeding ground for nightcrawlers. I bought a couple hundred worms for maybe 40 or 50 dollars a year ago and they've been breeding, I haven't paid for worms since. Especially better if you get some of the faster breeding worms- Red Wigglers are perfect for catching some bluegill for cut bait. Best part is, after a fishing trip if you have any left over, you won't find them in your fridge 2-3 weeks later rotting haha. Just throw any extras from the fishing trips into the bin, and let them reproduce! I keep mine in my garage where it doesn't get too cold or too hot. Tight lines!
Find it interesting I’ve never had much success with Skrimps, and I have tried them at various times over the years (apparently not the prime times💡). Thanks again for the Franks tip, been feeding on fish tacos ever since👍🏻👍🏻
I'm scrolling through comments and haven't seen anyone else say it buuut those are definitely oyster mushrooms.. chicken of the woods are normally orange and hen of the woods are brownish grayish.. oysters are delicious though! 😁
Spencer, love videos. A lesson learned from fishing in Canada where there are many more biting bugs. The reason you are getting swarmed is because you are wearing a dark shirt. Switch to light colors tan white even light blue. It makes a huge difference. Keep making videos
Love you're stuff Spence, could you do a shrimp bait video and try where you try fried vs boiled vs raw? I've had a lot of saltwater fish tanks over the years and found that if I lightly cook the shrimp, the fish fight over it rather than raw, which they casually eat.
I've caught everything from ½ lb channel up to 21lb blue on raw, peeled, deveined walmart shrimp! It's good stuff. FYI, sit the bag in the sun for a couple hours or out on the counter overnight and they will sort of rubberize and stay on the hook better
I love these longer videos. Thank you Spencer for always delivering. Starting to feel bad for Pig patrol. Haven’t watched his stuff for a minute but I’ll watch your long stuff on repeat hahaha. Take care.
Thanks for the video on different baits ,never thought of shrimp for catfish, thanks for the trip Spencer ,and the good food, I think my order is still there lol
I like to eat bluegills, but I like shrimp even more, so I guess I’m a channel cat at heart😂. And yes, I agree those are some beautiful oyster mushrooms
I've said this on a lot of fishing channels I never keep my rods close. I did in the past and I had to cut all my lines and retie when a fish hit. Yes I got the fish but I had a disaster after. I keep a good distance if I use chunk bait so I don't get tangles. I fish this way with rods far apart for some years now. Hard lesson learned.
Just a suggestion I learned from a TH-camr "cooking with shotgun red" he's now deceased RIP. But his tip for whole frying catfish was to make slits in the catfish all the way down its sides on both sides about one inch apart. It allows it to cook more even, you fish fry between it, better crunch, and peices that pop off the bone in bite size nuggets. It's a simple things that's a total game changer when whole frying little kitties.
Love your down to earth videos! I wish you were close enough to fish my local river. It is like many you fish, but with much stepper high banks. Shrimp has always been a go to bait for me, along with cut bait. I can tell there has been good rain there, as the landscape is still green!😮
Awesome video . I’m really impressed with the cooking and the details - screen shots of the cooking were amazing. I also like the idea of foraging for edible items in your meal like the mushrooms. An odd request would be a crawfish catch and cook along with the catfish . Love all of the details and the quality of your channel . Thank you 🙏
I love taking raw shrimp and taking an actual glove of garlic to mince finely in a tub and let it sit for a few days before using. It has to be real freshly minced garlic, not bottled crap, or powder. Use a nice sized kahle hook and the thread on perfectly and you've got a nice solid eater channel rat rig.
I remember fishing a local river with a bank kind of like that when I was a kid and watched my dad slip and come sliding down and take me out with him 😂😂😂 luckily we didn’t land in the river but it was fun and funny nonetheless.
My highly allergic poison ivy buddies will get in the shower and right when getting home from fishing/adventuring and take a rag with 1-1 water bleach and scrub areas off. They rarely have the poison after that. Not sure how good it is fur a fella but can’t be much worse than the things we ingested that are supposedly safe. Take care!
If looks has anything to do with it, you look to be an excellent cook. Looks absolutely amazing. Add some Coleslaw and some fries/Baked Potatoes and that would be a meal. You're a good guy and I so love your fishing show. I have no love for mosquitoes or ticks LOL. Stay safe and God bless you and yours. 😊😊😊😊
Just ordered some new shades. Used the code. Never had waterland sunglasses before. My Costas just kicked the bucket. Happy to be able to support the channel during these trying times haha. Hope ya catch a giant!
Hell yeah man. They aren't quite on the level of Costa clarity, but they're real close. Plus they're way more durable and lighter on your face. Hope you like em as much as I do!
Mosquitos are also more attracted to dark colored clothing than they are to light colored clothes. I almost always wear a gray t-shirt, instead of my usual navy blue.
Haven’t read all the comments and can’t make out the mushroom for sure, but I think what you had there are usually called chanterelles. I was at a gathering a while back and the fellow who had the gathering brought me a very similar looking mushroom that I ate and he called it a chanterelle. I do know pheasant backs and I usually find them in the spring. They have a pattern on them like the back of a rooster pheasant. The hen of the woods, or what the old Czechs call a Kozy are in the woods right about now and often grow at the base of oaks but other trees too. They are a tighter “shingled” look from my experience. Just a couple observations. My dad was not a good cat fisherman but he was very good at all the Iowa mushrooms and used his two weeks of vacation one spring and one fall to hunt mushrooms and “commune” With the woods. Which a In today’s crazy world would do a lot of good. Just like solo creek fishing a muddy banked iowa creek for eater catfish. Nothing more pure than that. Thanks for all your videos, I find them honest, easy to watch and usually over too soon. I think your point about shrimp being an affordable bait which in today’s crazy inflated world is a good thing especially versus $4 a dozen night crawlers. How about minnow traps, ever use them? Thanks again Theoleman
I'm sorry but those are not chanterelle's. Those are an orange or orangish red mushroom growing from the soil not on or at the base of trees. Those are oyster mushrooms. Hen of the woods aren't out yet either... those are a cool weather fall mushroom. I'm 100% sure those are oyster mushrooms.
Love them little ones fried whole. Another over looked bait for them channels is big juicy grasshoppers. Little cricks are tearing up the hoppers round here. Great vid and keep your powder dry and your pantry stocked young man 💪😎🙏🏻
Shrimp huh? Hmm maybe I'll try it. Spring comes I'll order some herring to use for chunk bait. I'll get the 6 to 8 inch size. I'll bring 2 and chunk them. If I catch sunfish and I'm sure I'll catch 50 of them I always do that's great bait. Caught a few smallies on sunfish 😊
THAT is the size creek I fish near my house. Jon boat BARELY navigates the waterway. I catch Chanel cats, up to about 4lb and flathead average about 10/12 lbs. Great video, keep them coming!!!
Shrimp tips. Get the raw shell on shrimp if your store has them. Yours are peeled & indeed I peel mine too as the strike % goes way up,but leaving hard tail shell for hooking us WAY BETTER. I've used small treble one tail shell a wrap soft shrimp around it using the other two points. Now IF? You lose a bait? Conclusively IT WAS A FISH it won't come off any other way. Soft meat doesn't hinder the hook points and catching fish. I've used them this way for yrs.
Little dawn dish soap and water in a bottle with you to wash anything that touches poison ivy or oak within 15 mins of exposure will cut your chance of breaking out greatly. Did this when I did tree removal work.
another great video man! always nice watching u reel em in! picked up a few tips from you along the way. get yourself a wood cutting board man, ditch the plastic
I've caught at least a hundred lbs of Catfish using Walmart Shrimp. Costs about $3 for each fishing trip. I use peeled by the way, they stay on the hook excellent.
Come to Kentucky, Brother. You can spread poles all down the bank. Get you a pontoon boat and drop 20 lines. Crappie fisherman out Spider Rigging with 8 16-foot rods sticking off the bow of a 14-foot john boat. Lol No holds barred.
Hey Spencer. I love the way you fry your small catfish. I eat them all ways but I do like the bone in. Ask Ella what type of mushrooms those are. I would like to know. Thank you .
Great Vid Spencer! enjoyed seeing a different way to cook eaters. I don't know if I'll try it...definitely cool to see. Back home, Texas, I used to travel creeks like that. Now, Missouri, not so much... kinda miss it!! Safe travels up north!
That’s always been a problem of mine. I only get shrimp on the holidays so I have a problem putting it on a hook. I’d find myself eating the whole bag raw.🤔🤷🏼♂️ Love what you do and thanks for sharing.♥️👍🏼
Your waving around attempting to swat the swarm of mosquitoes made me remember to buy a bug hood. As it is i plug my ears with a blue shop towel and cant use my headlamp at night for more than 10 seconds.
Gotta love Iowa and our third pole charge...it is nice to purchase it though...especially if you are catfishing and trying to catch some cut bait at the same time.
From the second image of the mushroom you showed I would say that it is an oyster mushroom and definitely not hen of the woods ask her again and she will clarify it for you.
Another great video Man. I sure do wish you would try soft shell turtle. That was a nice one u caught. I love horse radish, it has a great burn but not for long. Fish to me just taste better with the bone in it. My favorite fish to eat is whole fried bream with the skin on. Man u made me hungry. Sure beats pond raised catfish.
We have a creek that looks just like that where I do a bit of fishing. Don’t think I’d eat anything out of it due to the fact the creek mainly catches rain water from acres and acres of parking lots.
But I'm alittle older than u so my days of that stuff are pry done! But man the times I had on the English river back in the day! When I learned about chubs, I almost had to get my mail delivered down there! Lol good stuff bro!!
We use shrimp for our great lakes channs. we get 36+ inchers with a single jumbo shrimp lol. you put a good meal together. those mushrooms looked great. Do you ever go foraging yourself?
I kinda recognize this place to be honest, it might be because I go fishing in northwest Iowa, you know they almost look the same, I’ve gone by my family’s friends, the Eichanberger’s they got private hunting land on the Iowa river, me and my brother went there, not that much though 1 catfish was all we caught, nice size though. Love your videos keep up the good work❤ oh and how is woody doing?
STRAIGHT FROM N/W IOWA FISHING HAS BEEN SUPER TOUGH FOR ME THIS YEAR.. I suppose it’s due to all the flooding we had earlier in the summer 😢 and now it’s starting to get chilly again… looking forward to the fall bite though that’s usually when I have the best luck for big old channel rats!
For me hanging out on a bank with lines in the water is always a good time even if I don't catch anything. Peace of mind. Calming really.
Same!
Please carry a thermacell with you. I recently had to have open heart surgery because I had a staph infection in my heart from what they think was from mosquito bites. Spencer I hope you see this. And everyone else that reads it do yourself a favor and get thermacells. Awesome video Spencer. I always watch.
I hope you're recovering well man. I have about 6 of them, I just forgot to bring it. I appreciate ya looking out for me.
Thank you where I fish there’s hella mosquitoes I’ll use this information when I can ❤
I live in missouri. Next to the river. There is no escaping mosquitos.
I got west Nile from a mosquito in Missouri . 17 weeks later I’m still suffering… nothing they can do.
SkeeterSquashers is my business so no mosquitoe problem here 🎉
When i was a kid, we had the fish for dinner and was glad to have it. Mom always fried it like that. We dug worms in our garden for bait. Used the guts of our chickens. And liver of deer during the season. It all seemed to work. Great video. Stay safe.
No doubt a catfish is a curious and hungry critter. Sure does make baits selection fun. Thank you for always watching!
Love the videos Spencer. When you mentioned shrimp are more expensive than nightcrawlers- I thought i'd leave a comment.

You are the man for this!!!
I used to do that years ago when I used worms more often. Hunting them at night after a rain was always entertaining also🤜🏻

On the lower Mississippi River I trap river shrimp, not to be confused with grass shrimp! I make my own traps, may make a video on it! ✌️
I'm scrolling through comments and haven't seen anyone else say it buuut those are definitely oyster mushrooms.. chicken of the woods are normally orange and hen of the woods are brownish grayish.. oysters are delicious though! 😁
I love creek fishing and eating pan fish on the bone. I am glad you got to go! Thanks for taking us along.

This may be your record for most opes in one video. Great stuff!
I should have put up a counter haha. Thanks for watching!
Perfect timing before Thursday night hut hut kickoff! Giving me coming to watch before the big game . What a champ !!! 👍

They're without a doubt my favorite grocery store bait. I'd just rather eat the shrimp and use cutbait haha

I just got myself a neat looking rattling float. Called a catfish spook. I'm pretty excited to try it at the river where there's some current.
They really make a difference lots of times, especially in the late summer and fall. Good luck out there man!
Try jello on the shrimp when shells are peeled works good for me I let the shrimp sit and dry out a good bit before use the jello

another great video man! always nice watching u reel em in! picked up a few tips from you along the way. get yourself a wood cutting board man, ditch the plastic
Keep the tail on and poke the barb of your hook through it and it helps keep the skrimp from getting taken as easily.
I've caught at least a hundred lbs of Catfish using Walmart Shrimp. Costs about $3 for each fishing trip. I use peeled by the way, they stay on the hook excellent.
OMG bank fishing like the good old days!!! Awesome!
Glad ya enjoyed it man!
I keep my can of bug spray on top of my tackle bag. I’ve forgotten it before but also I can reapply while fishing if needed
Enjoyment. 😀 Your Creativity.
Love watching your videos and listening to your podcast
Glad ya enjoy em!
Microwave shrimp 1 minute 30 minutes. Cook so many at a time til you microwave the whole bag. Then let them cool and coat them with garlic. 🙂
Come to Kentucky, Brother. You can spread poles all down the bank. Get you a pontoon boat and drop 20 lines. Crappie fisherman out Spider Rigging with 8 16-foot rods sticking off the bow of a 14-foot john boat. Lol No holds barred.
I actually prefer to fish fewer because I like simple. 8 is about my max. I really like 2-4.
@RiverCertified me, too. 2 Catfish rods and a bait catcher. I get confused easy.
Hey Spencer. I love the way you fry your small catfish. I eat them all ways but I do like the bone in. Ask Ella what type of mushrooms those are. I would like to know. Thank you .
On the unlimited looking for big belly Kelly.
Watching one of my favorite channels. 💪🏼

Golden Oyster mushrooms.... Some of the tastiest ones out there and very versatile.

You're not alone haha. Glad ya got a kick outta it dude!
Going out in a couple hours to try the lake again. Maybe the river
I do miss fishing the Iowa waters, but the Blue cats in the Tennessee River help.
I totally understand that haha
Luv some whole fried channel enjoy the video Spencer stay safe out there buddy
It's tough to beat for sure. Thanks for watching!
Definitely my fav. It might have been my first comment on here years ago
Another great video, never tried fish that way but will now.
That's some hardcore mud slidin', skeeter fightin', creek fishin' right there! 😉♥
And it was a blast. Thank you for watching sir!
Thanks for this vid! It brings many fond memories!

Yellow oysters, some of the best. Looks like a bomb ass meal!
You won't hear me complain about that one!
Those were the only size I could catch the other day . No complaints they were delicious.
Absolutely man
They definitely look like oyster mushrooms which are great edible mushrooms as well . Can’t beat fresh mushrooms from the woods .
