The song "S.O.S. D'un Terrien En Detresse" was written for the French-Kubek rock opera "Starmania" in 1976, music by Michel Berger(France), lyrics by Luke Plamandon (from Québec). «I've never stood with my feet on the ground. I wish I was a bird.. I feel bad in my body …» - sang by actor Daniel Balavoine (France) in 1978. After Balavoine 's death in 1986, few people managed to sing his masterpieces really well, conveying all the feelings and thoughts of the author. In September 2004, Grégory Lemarchal (France) sang this song. From that very first performance of Gregory at the Star Academy, the history of the Little Prince has been counted. Gregory was terminally ill and died in 2007. 40 years after the release of the famous "SOS d'un terrien en detresse", these lines again sound from the stage. All over the world it is recognized that the best performer of this song is Dimash. He made this song a worldwide hit. In his performance, she scored 600 million views on the Internet in one night. His performance is now being studied by vocalists all over the world. Kazakh singer at 26 years old - a real star in his country. Действие происходит в будущем, в фантастическом городе под названием Монополис. Это город небоскрёбов, столица единого государства. There’s a lot to say about this song!
Dimash speaks of it as his ‘calling card’, as he shot to global fame with his performance of it on the 2017 Singer contest in China (although he had won other awards with it before that, too). It comes from a 1978 French-Canadian cyberpunk rock opera, Starmania, and is considered one of the 5 most difficult French songs to sing (btw, it’s a language he doesn’t speak!).
Dimash says he heard of it through Grégory Lemarchal - a French singer who tragically died very young, from cystic fibrosis - and he learned the lyrics phonetically through Grégory’s performance. In the musical, Johnny (the main character) sings this when his love, Cristal, is killed, so it’s full of angst and depression ..
It’s also a very emotional song for Dimash and when I was at his concert in London, lots of us were in tears watching him struggle to finish it; not long before, a good friend of his, Denis Ten (an Olympic medallist who had skated to Dimash’s version of SOS) had been killed in a robbery. It was heartrending ..

Dimash Qudaibergen was born on May 24, 1994, in Aktobe, Kazakhstan into musical royalty. Height: 1.91m; 6' 3'. Grandfather played professional dombra, grandmother was a teacher and sings.
His parents are Kanat Aitbayev and Svetlana Aitbayeva. Sveta studied classical singing, but she is not an opera singer. According to Kazakh tradition, he was raised by his grandparents (Mama and Papa) and for a long time he kept his parents as his brother ans sister in law. They all live together in one house.

He has been training in music since he was 5 years old, has a perfect pitch. He is university-educated with degrees in piano, classical/opera, contemporary music, pop, and jazz with a major in vocal. Dimash also completed a Broadway musical masterclass and has completed his Master's with a concentration in Composition. He graduated with honors’. He has composed 12 of his own songs so far and is currently working on his doctorate. We have to call him soon Dr. Dimash Qudaibergen. 😃
Dimash did not fit the traditional image of a singer in Kazakhstan and was criticized. Even his voice teacher forbade him to sing in falsetto (Interview with his voice teacher - th-cam.com/video/V7hkcKYAnhg/w-d-xo.html ) ... but he was not deterred, won many national and international competitions.
In 2016, Dimash turned down the offer of the National Opera in Astana because he wanted to go his own way ... He created his own genre: neoclassical combined with classical, folklore and other styles such as pop, rock, R&B and jazz. We laypeople say 'Popera'. 😃
Dimash is independent and has full artistic control over himself. He founded his own company named Dimash Ali.
In 2017, Dimash surprised everyone in China. His first album sold out in 37 seconds and triple platinum in under an hour.
He opened the eyes of his critical compatriots. Today Dimash is a 'cultural ambassador' for his country and a 'national treasure' (not an official title). He himself is a proud Kazakh and patriot.
Dimash plays at least 7 instruments, traditional dombra is a must in his family. He speaks Kazakh (mother tongue) and Russian without accent (second language in Kazakhstan), is learning English and Mandarin. He says dancing and Mandarin are difficult for him. So far, he sings in 13 languages, trains his voice for 3 hours every day... but Dimash said: "You don't need to know how hard I've worked, you just need to enjoy the results".
Experts consider Dimash to be a lyrical baritone with a typically long range. Some believe that he does not sing his high notes as a countertenor but as a natural soprano. He is the first singer to sing all 5 voices: bass, baritone, tenor, contralto, soprano.

Dimash's 'heavenly' vocal abilities, from bass to coloratura soprano, are not just limited to the tremendous range of over seven octaves and mixing of all musical genres, but it is the incredible command of his instrument, his voice and the emotional touch of people ... that brings us back again and again fascinates and surprises and again ... Such an assortment is a very rare gift and can only be achieved, maintained and perfected through tireless and never-ending training. Dimash cannot be pigeonholed.
Dimash always wanted to be on stage. As a young boy (3ys), he would often sit in the audience at his parents' performances and run on stage when they bowed at the end, and he would do the same.
In his childhood Dimash trained Taekwondo. Dimash's role models are Lara Fabian, Pavarotti, Igor Krutoy, Andrea Bocelli, Celin Dion, Queen and very important Michael Jackson.
Dimash doesn't drink alcohol and of course he doesn't smoke, he doesn't drink ice drinks and he doesn't like socks. Hed love fire and water on stage, as a set of course. 🤣
A Dear gave him knee pads, but he says he's so deep into his songs that he doesn't feel any pain. 😃 Dimash looks good, is one of the 100 most beautiful men in the world and a model coveted around the world.

This song Is definitely questioning life, and it’s meaning. This is a person who is maybe not comfortable in their own skin, and would like to see the world from another dimension. It is a very deep song. Difficult technically & emotionally to deliver w/ the right amount of pathos, pain and anguish. This will probably go down as his most recognized song, but his beloved "DEARS'" song will always be: "If I Never Breathe Again." 🐐

I am sure you won't get to my comment but Oh well. I am a 70 year old Dear who has become obsessed with Dimash's music, regardless of the language he is singing in. This song, SOS, for me is about my grandson. He died in a horrendous car accident on my birthday, Dec. 28th, 2021. He was 22 when he died, high functioning autistic. He was brilliant, loud, amazing, rude and he was absolutely fabulous. Chancie never quite fit the social norm's, always a little outside and and looking into a world that he just didn't quite fit into. I miss him terribly. Maybe the world looks better for him now....😥😓💔from above

I was at the Düsseldorf and Prague concert this year in May. He had a lot of malfunction (maybe batteries) of his in ears at Düsseldorf. Especially on this song. Guess what... he never stopped singing and he was able to hit every note, despite not hearing anything. He was sitting on the stage, waiting for the team fixing the battery and singing. Though he changed the high notes a bit, its now one of my favorite versions and at the end he changed the lullaby to I love you Dears! 😍

He feels uncomfortable in his skin, the song is about a man in distress. It's a French song that talks about a person that feels lost in Earth, about somebody that wants to transforms into something else (metamorphosis). Somebody that was born in the wrong place. Kind of a philosophical song.
