GeForce4 MX 440 4x (Core NV17) was released on February 6th, 2002 with launch price around $149 GeForce FX 5600 XT was released on March 17th, 2003 or in October 2003 according to some sources. Original non XT versions was much stronger. Original FX 5600 Specs: Core: 325 MHz, Memory 250/500 MHz to 275/550 MHz FX 5600 XT Specs: Core: 235 MHz, Memory 200/400 MHz (many of these cards had only 64 bit bus with slower memory)
The MX 440 is DX7 card and COD2 runs in DX7. I think that newer cards are using much more sophisticated methods how to run this game and that makes them slower. I think that the FX 5600 XT would be faster in cod2 than the MX 440 with Anti aliasing on.
Well the FX 5600 XT has much higher Pixel Fillrate and it is better optimized for DX8 and DX9 games. MX series had only software DX9 support. MX cards had only emulated vertex shaders. I bet that FX cards also had improved memory controller.

@@alphadog6970 Very informative. I didn't know this.
i didnt know that nvidia did that for the fx series cards, thanks for the reply!
Why FX 5600 is faster than MX 440?
the cards are almost identical in the specification
