    I love to see how that dozer makes such a huge difference with only little effort and time.

    Man you’re moving along pretty good opening that. I’m thinking you’d probably be money ahead getting a grubber or good root rake.
    I think I might actually be able to keep up with you clearing the smaller trees and brush , the bigger stuff slows down the tractor though. It’s all in the type of root rake and knowing how to use it. It’s heavy and not exactly stock. It seems slow when I’m running it but it’s surprising how much is done at the end of the day.

      You got a root rake on a tractor?

      I have one of their skid steer models but it works great on the tractor. The tractor is about 9,000lbs when I’m clearing, but only 60 hp and the loader only lifts about 2,600 lbs. most trees here around 4 inches and under come out easy.
      I can’t stack piles anything like what you’re doing.
      Tractors and skid steers have a lot better ground speed than an excavator, so if it’s not bigger stuff then they can clear pretty good…..unless it’s slimy sloppy mud.

    I hope he let you do the whole place.Your definitely got the place looking a lot better running the dozer over it really helped. If he has you clear it and burn the piles then run the dozer over it the property value would definitely increase. How many acres is there left to clear? Be Safe Out There and stay away from the chainsaws in this heat. Oh and you forget to bring your tools to take the side cutters off. LoL

      He's got 40 acres total. The dozer and rake made a huge difference. I love that thing. And yeah, I keep forgetting to bring tools to take those stupid side cutters off. Lol

    Nice machines. Just sharing an opinion: a 299D3xe with a mulching head would go through all of that same material in half the time with no cleanup or piles or burning or anything left to do behind it without a doubt. I have all those heavy machines and larger, but they sit still on projects like that because a 299 will do it much much quicker and leave almost nothing behind it. Just food for thought. Also hourly: as a rule I NEVER ever ever work hourly for a customer. In time you realize about 5 things about that which aren’t good. Also you’ll have the customer on your back about “time”. Anyway, just sharing an opinion from my side of the business. I see projects in 2 different lights: working from the outside in or working from the inside out. Big heavy pieces are the outside in. Small machines are the inside out. Sometimes you find the inside out is quicker and cheaper on everybody; you and the customer.

      I don't disagree about the mulcher. But then you're left with stumps and roots that just sprout right back. And when the customer is very limited on maintaining what they have, they just wasted their money on mulching.

    • @bellexcavation9862

      @@smithworx1091even still with open bare ground, fresh topsoil, and full full sunlight, everything will come back on that spot anyway. That underbrush will be back fast anyway because it’s cleared off. A mulched tree is gone. Their money won’t be wasted on the mulching process. Just observations I have made in the 32 years I have owned the business and done this.

    • @smithworx1091
      @smithworx1091  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @bellexcavation9862 I didn't know mulching has been around for 32 years. There's no market around here for mulching. Guys invest 150k in a skid steer and mulcher and then selling it within a year. If I had a market, I would have a mulcher for my 299.

    • @bellexcavation9862
      @bellexcavation9862 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Landscape, mowing, farming, excavation, heavy equipment and landclearing has been around a long time. I understand right machinery for the right market is a thing. Use what you need for your market available. Also use what you have even if it crosses over. If it’s not a good machine for your market then I get it. Even still, a lot of those companies that probably crashed crashed for a reason; poor management and vision implementation. Mulching is a fad every young fella wants but often they don’t first have the business experience. Having agricultural knowledge is important in what we do and so is knowing every facet of each job we price. Have that price ready on your lips for that customer while you’re standing looking at it. Best wishes in what you do.

    I guess what I got to say is this , disclaimer 😎 I have no clue what I am talking about here 😂
    Your work ethic is about like mine, do a good job, make the customer happy ,, that being said ,, the guy didn’t pay you for a certain job, he paid you by the hour,
    The way I followed this job,, everything you did on the bulldozer was free work ,, JMO 😎 read my disclaimer again 😂 small businesses go out of business doing this ,,
    He paid you for 8 hours, you did that with the clearing on the excavator ,,
    I just want to see you have a successful business for a long time ,, you have a big investment in equipment, maintenance expenses,, can’t be working for free 😎
    Rant over 😎

      You're right. But he was a good customer so an extra 30 mins on the dozer, I didn't mind. I wouldn't have brought the dozer down there for free though lol. It was just already there. But he does want me to come back and clear more.
