I am a native speaker who has struggled with spelling and pronunciations my whole life and this has finally given me the missing key to the root of so many of my issues!
You nailed Sensei, I’ve been speaking English myself for over 15 years, and this is the first time I heard an accurate explanation about the schwa. Thank you.
I use this in my first class with every student since it's a good primer for basic phonetics understanding, rhythm, stress and of course, easy-to-understand pronunciation. My students are French and they never study phonetics in their schools, so they definitely need the help. Thanks for this video. It's very very useful for me!
As for me, schwa was always that deaf sound from Hebrew, which is displayed by column under letters :D Never knew about same concept in English, even though using it in everyday life. Thank you Hadar! It's always fun to learn something new!
To echo many of the comments below: this is an excellent video from a practical and theoretical perspective (I am a native speaker and felt like I learned so much!!) Also, I really appreciate the comment that clarity is key to communication (not just pronunciation)!
Hadar you're amazing!!! 🤯Your voice accompany me every single day on my way to improve my American accent! You're my mentor! Thank so much for your videos, and your simplicity to teach! I just realized about the schwa sound! 🥳💃💃
Hi there from Spain, I watch hundred of videos from many youtube language teachers, as I'm learning several languages myself. And I just want to say to you; You are brilliant. Your content is so good and high quality. Thanks a lot, 😊🙏🏼

Thanks for your amazing explanation! I do not have any problem when listening and writing down the word. The schwa sound is new for me. I keep on practicing to sound like a native.
Your videos (including this one) are so valuable, priceless, worthy, important and appreciated (thanks a lot for them) and, with all due respect, you are a woman extremely beautiful, intelligent and an awesome and talented teacher. Your face is a precious poem capable of moving limitless emotions each time it's read.
You're simply the best👍💯 I've seen on this so far. Permit me to add, even though I'm a Nigerian, that the schwa, when used as prescribed in the video, helps us to sound more like the native speakers. Super THANKS to you🙏💕 I would like to take a class. (learn) Kindly let me know what the procedure is, please.
Hi! I started to see your videos and I am really in love about your way of teaching. I started one week ago and I cannot stop. Please let me know where are the “Schaw” on these words that you gave on this video. Where can I find the answer? My name is Jacqueline and I live in Brasil.
You are something Hadar mam, I really likes your confident and love to hear you, your lessons are really works it's valuable and I watching your videos every day and I allso doing tongue exercise every single day in the morning so thank you for your help you are amazing.
Thanks for this super useful lesson on schwa, Hadar! Please, could you make more videos on when a schwa changes its sound case it's affected by other sounds next to it? Thank you! :)
you just saved my final exam on phonetics and phonology with this video! i couldn't understand what the schwa was no matter what but this is a great explanation! thank you so much!
I have just added something extra to the lesson I am going to give today. Thanks for your tips about teaching this difficult concept - three words - peril's, bann's, cour'ge - my lesson is on anthems and one of the anthems I am using is - the Star Spangled Banner
Thanks a million, dear Hadar :-) Using the schwa sound in English makes the pronunciation significantly smoother. In some languages, it's represented by certain letters; in German, by the unstressed "e." In Bulgarian, the schwa even exists as a sound, and the letter ъ.
Hi Hadar! I fully understand you and the other teachers on TH-cam but it is very hard for me to comprehend everyday english conversation. Why and how can I solve my issue?
Hola, que tal?, como van?, Los mejores y más cordiales Saludos desde puente piedra, lima, Perú, ojalá que puedas venir en algún momento a mi país y que disfrutes mucho de todo por aquí, con la familia y los amigos, felicidades por tus vídeos...
Is the “ness” in kindness pronounced as /nɪs/ or /nəs/? Are there any rules for substituting vowel sounds with the ə vowel in English pronunciation? Thank you so much!
My list of three words with the schwa are: a GREE => a two syllable word with the stress on the second syllable. The schwa occurs in the first one. RE ci pe = > three syllable word with the stress on the first syllable. The schwa occurs in the second syllable *ci*. And last but not least: SYl la ble. Stress on the first syllable and if my ears do not deceive me there are two schwa sounds: one in the second and another one in third syllable

Hi Hadar, if I want to improve my listening, what is the better exercise that you recommended me?
Is the “ness” in kindness pronounced as /nɪs/ or /nəs/? Are there any rules for substituting vowel sounds with the ə vowel in English pronunciation? Thank you so much!
Both are correct. In fact the schwa is an allophone of the lax /I/ in undressed syllables! So that’s the rule you’re looking for:)
My list of three words with the schwa are:
a GREE => a two syllable word with the stress on the second syllable.
