In case any learners are not sure, Hadar says she is not native but her English is ABSOLUTELY impeccable. I honestly thought she was native. Her fluency, clarity, enunciation, etc, are better than many native English speakers.
Great content! Here's a few tips: -record yourself -change the speed of the video if needed -practice w a script -set intention 2 ways of practice: 1. with pause 2. without pause Hope this short summary will help you~
I do it every day and sometimes can't stop lol. I've fallen in love with a great orator (Jason Silva) and it's been improving not only my English but also my life in all respects. Hadar, thank you for sharing these brilliant pieces of knowledge with us. Thank you for being my teacher!

I like shadowing; the steps are: Concentrate or pay attention, choice addequate voice, slow the velocity recording, work with script, compare own voice, focus in specific paragraph, quality no quantity. All right.
I've been doing shadowing for almost half of a year now and the person I picked for my practicing was Matthew McConaughey recently I've noticed many native speakers started to tell me that I have a very specific flow to my accent and my vowels and just the way I talk sound very US southern that's it's almost impossible to guess where I'm from as they told me so this shadowing thing really does work 😆
i've studyng english and i love my progrees, i can understand whole vide whitout subtitles, the English it's not difficult, but you must have time and patient to improve your skills and achieve your goals in this language.
in brief: In this video, Hadar discusses the benefits of the shadowing exercise and how to optimize it for improving English language skills. Shadowing involves repeating what someone else is saying, helping learners develop intuition, understand sounds, and notice elements like melody, intonation, and rhythm. The video provides tips for conducting shadowing exercises, such as playing the audio without pausing or playing a line and pausing to repeat it. Hadar stresses the importance of setting an intention when doing shadowing exercises to focus on specific improvements. To optimize shadowing practice, Hadar suggests selecting a speaker whose voice resonates with the learner, slowing down the pace of the audio, using a script to follow along, and recording oneself shadowing the speaker. Repeating the same phrase or paragraph multiple times can also be beneficial. She encourages viewers to share their experiences with shadowing exercises in the comments section and invites them to join the InFluency community for more practice.
Self-taught is something so important and it's what can make you go further and further and, finally, achieving some of your goals. I've learned a lot from youtube videos and youtube teachers. I always remind my students of how important is studying every day and immerse yourself as much as you can in the target language. Being restless is essential.
i have been doing shadowing for the past 4-5 months....and i have been shadowing every single video- from -" hello ,my name is hadar to .......i will see you in the next week in the next video.Bye." i do it with every single expression..and im so proud of my progress. I'm 75% fluent in american accent. Being an immigrant i can relate to Hadar and she is an angel in disguise. WOW. God Bless U ,Hadar. Much love. :)
I agree that this Mimicking/Echoing/Shadowing is a helpful technique in improving your English, more specifically your sound production. I used to use this when I was still learning the sound of the language. Actually, I still do once in a while, especially when I feel like I am losing the sound. Thanks for the video, Ms. Hadar.
I've been doing shadowing exercises on and off for the past few years to improve my English speaking but didn't find it to be very efficient. There are 2 main takeaways from this video that I think could be a game changer for me: 1) Practice with intention 2) On/Off method with recording. I hope these 2 tips can help me practice with more focus and see improvement. Thanks Hadar!!
Shadowing is the reason why I almost have a native like english without living in England or USA. Friends from these countries have told me including a kid in London, that I speak like them. Now I am using it for my kid who is nine years old. Initially he was using ' listen and repeat' and since recently he is practising shadowing. I have been calling and asking him evwryday if he has done shadowing just to make sure he does it everyday. Mostly he is using youtube shorts of Mr.Beast.
I'm amazed by how great your American accent is. I teach pronunciation myself and I would say my accent has good and bad days. Some days I feel like it's REAAALLY good, and some days, when I don't drink enough water or when I feel too tired to try, my foreign accent simply shows. I wonder if you still have days like that.
Thank you for sharing all this information! I'm an English teacher in Brazil, and I've been suggesting this technique to my students for a while. They really enjoy it, and now I can help them improve even more!
Hello our Dear Teacher!!. I've been practicing this technique for a while now, and it's part of my weekly habits. I agree that we have to set up specific goals. For instance, I've been focusing on the flap t which has been a nightmare at the beginning of this process. It's been a while now and honestly, these exercises are paying off. I am a passionate English learner and a host in the Influency Community as well. This is one of the best experience that I've gotten through because within the community I've been having the opportunity to share my passion for intonation, rhythm and melody. For sure one step at a time, we'll be able to share our knowledge and skills about the flap t as well. In the end, it's gonna take time to get rid of your old habits, but when you start to see and feel results wow, that's an awesome feeling!!!. Then, you can even start sharing your passion with other learners and it's gonna be really touching to get in touch with students who are on the same page, and are willing to help one another. Thanks for sharing a meaningful and fascinating video. 😊😊
Hello Alessandro, for the beginners like me, how many minutes of video is suitable for starting? and do you suggest videos or podcast you used for this purpose? thanks in advance.
@@ferhancevik9972 Hello Ferhan!!. When I started shadowing, I picked up an actor that I like a lot. My advise is, pick someone who you can relate to. It could be anyone, an actor, a speaker, a singer and so on. Try to listen to him/her very carefully. Especially at the beginning, slow down the speed. Try to identify the speed that fits to your needs and abilities. It's also a listening exercise. So, as our Dear Hadar mentioned many times, you can make it if you can hear it. Pay attention to all small details about pronunciation and intonation at first. One step at a time!!. Make a huge numbers of repetition of the same paragraph until you feel confident and satisfied about it. After a few repetition, make a record of yourself, and compare yourself to the original one. Try to notice if you mispronounced something, and use the google tool how to pronounce "that word". Use that word in sentences starting from Youglish. Then come up with your own sentences. I'm sorry for the long explanation, but it's an ongoing process and those tools and techniques are going to help you to keep your weekly practice intentional and enjoyable. Have a nice day!!!
I really like shadowing by someone elses voice maam, specially when i heard my brother talking to other people through call ,i really like to hear and see how he delivered his speaking.
Shadowing is a practice I have tried for a long time and it changed my experience as student. Now, as teacher, I have talked about it with my students. Thank so much Hadar for this useful video, you are super motivating.
Hadar, you are just incredible because you gave us a tool to practice without having someone to talk to. Of course, for anyone of us, there is nothing better than hiring a coach.
Hello teacher!!! You have a very good diction. Even speaking quick, I can understand you very well, using the tecnique that you teach. I speak French, Italian, Spanish and trying speak english. I have very difficult with the listen. Each every single day I do progress. I'm loving your class. Thank you so much.
I think, learning 2-3 gr structures and then shadow them in the context is the best practice ever. And you don't need many audios for that. And also its very helpful if one learnt the audio by heart
"Thank you for this amazing video. It helped me a lot. I was doing shadowing the wrong way, which made me frustrated and give up easily. But now, I will begin a new journey❤❤❤❤
Dear teacher, I'm new here and I love your teaching method, I'm also working but I find it difficult to talk during meetings, hang out with office friends due to the limitation I have in English, then I came across your videos, it has burst my confidence , I want to say thank you.

Your English level is an inspiration for all of us who want to learn this language and need some guide and need to see what we are capable of, thank you.
Hello Hadar :) I used to follow all these tips when shadowing, but what I noticed was that I was always being stressed and tired of doing things consciously, so I changed tactics and stoped forcing myself to do the shadowing technique intentionally, instead I started using English as if it were my native language and whenever I came across a spectacular sentence I would shadow it for fun.
Sometimes I realized that I'm not putting attention to the content, but before knowing this exercise I used to repeat what the other person is saying and in that way I feel I can be concentrated. This exercise is awesome, I can see the improvements in my skills.
I do like this exercise! Basically, it works for me. In addition, it helps me to memorize things in English (songs, scenes, monologues and so on). And, it's simply exciting to think about the what, the who, and the why behind each shadowing exercise. I usually make a decision about this based on smth that I've heard or seen or thought or even dreamed! So, there's real intention and motivation every time I do the shadowing... Now, I'm trying to work more systematically... Thanks a lot for these practical tips, Hadar! Recording is gonna be my next upgrade 😉
Hello, This is one of the best explanations of shadowing that I’ve heard! So many great practical tips that are applicable to learning foreign languages as well.Learning to tune in and reproduce the many nuances of sound not only gives you confidence with speech but helps to give you a deeper appreciation of the beauty of language as a whole. Thanks Hadar
Shadowing can help you improve your pronunciation, intonation, and fluency. It can also help you feel more comfortable speaking in a foreign language. I appreciate the way you are teaching. God bless you.❤
I'm not a native English Speaker. the more I practice pronouncation the more sounds I can hear it. therefore I go back to learn all my vocabularies and starting over. I will do shadowing for sure and be going to enjoy it.
I have never tried shadowing before but wanna and will be starting it from tomorrow on. Thank you Hadar I love your accent and did not think that you are a non-native english speaker
I like shadowing technic, and i am going to try your advice,we need quality not quantity,so step by step and smooth, play, pause, and repeat, again and again.thank you for your nice tips to shadow speaking english, welldone!
I am not learning English as I was privileged to learn it as my native language, so I am using your videos for my target language. Your accent is indistinguishable from a native English speaker and I hope to learn your secrets so I, too, can be clear in my L2. I have a friend who speaks amazing English, however, it is very heavily accented and people dismiss him. That makes me very sad as he is one of the smartest people I have ever met.
I'm using a music speed downer app to do this and it's great, you can change the speed without losing quality and also loop phrases until you get them 100% right.

I were shadowing now with this video for the first time, and at the beginning it was quite difficult to me, but then it became so fun and easy! I really liked such an exercise and i will definitely continue on doing it, thanks.💕
Could u guide me a bit I am learning a different language I want to adopt a habit of shadowing technique I want to ask u something When u do practice of this technique do you repeatedly listen to the same dialogue or u move to the next dialogue after speaking the previous one let me know
@@akriti_bangtan7245 Hi, it's really cool, that you're learning a language! I combine: 1) repeating simultaniously as she's talking 2) pausing than repeating the whole sentence. If I don't manage to repeat it right away, with the first try, than I can do it again, but usually I just continue on going even if I made a mistake or wasn't fast enough to keep up with her. It all is okay, so chose what's best for you and, most importantly, what doesn't exhaust you, because learning should be a fun experience, otherwise you won't be willing to do it. Wish you luck)
Your approach to every field of knowledge is amazing..you are my lovely one teacher and the best one!!! Your stand for a lot of things.. keep going... kisses from Greece 💕😥❤️👏👏👏👏

Well, this is actually quite beneficial. The thing is, a lot of people incorporate this stuff into their day-to-day, and make an attempt to sort of get better at English - or whatever laguage it is. In these moments, you emerge, and bring light into these people's eyes. And finally, shadowing is great technique is a resounding tech if used right! You can certainly make some progress in 1 month time if you apply everything as said in the instructions. Oh, too much said. Have a nice day, this tech is totally worth it!
Hello Teacher! Thank you for awesome advice. It's great that nowadays we have the opportunity to use such great techniques as shadowing. I try to do this exercise as often as I can and, to be honest, I'm in love with this method! Sometimes I feel that I hit the wall, but your videos and videos by other passionate english teachers or learners inspire and encourage me to boost my skills. Thank you a lot for your work!
I do this kind of excise many times a week. I appreciate your voice and speech Hadar. I'll try to imitate one of your videos or podcast and send to you. Thanks for the tips. Hugs
Thanks. Sound can help students know where to stop in a sentence and which words should be put together as a group. Sound rhythm is grammar and that is why native people do not need grammar knowledge much. Without sound learning, students must have had strong grammar knowledge.
Your style with long hair and her yellow sweater with a black dress are beautiful. Thank you my Hadarfor your excellent English classes😇. Sincerely : Edgar
I wanted to write the same thought 😆 But in fact I guess it's better to shadow a native speaker and in more casual situation. She is great! But we don't want to plus to our axcents one more even though it is beautiful and almost invisible. And additionally, teachers speak articulated for us to understand them. In day to day conversations they don't speak like in this video.
😁 I hope, some day my English will sound good enough to be considered a native English speaker 😇 But even now when i just learn, some people from some countries believe English is my first language. The reason is: they can distinguish acsents which are similar to their language, but not mine despite it doesn't sound any good to me 😅
Hi teacher thank you so much for your sharing vedio how to speak a fluent English and to give the strategy to know the speak English thank you Godbless
thanks a lot for these pretty overqualified tips that are extremely different from the others, bec These are more focused on the natural learning habits and technics rather than vocabulary and grammatical issues. I really appreciate 🙏
Tips: 1. Choose someone whose voice you like/love or even want to sound like 2. You can always slow down the speed down to 75% 3. Make sure you have the script handy. 4. Record yourself shadowing the person and listen back. You'll need to practice less this way. 5. Repeat the same phrase, part of a paragraph. Quality not quantity.
Hi Hadar, I'm not a native speaker also, and i still learning English now. Thank you for your sharings, it's useful.✌ I totally agree that shadowing is a very effective method to practice speaking skills, and it can train the listening skills too. It's an amazing way, you will feel that you are progressing pretty much.
I work in a restaurant and I am always trying to shadow the sound and mimic of the costumers and my coworkers, and I am always listening to their conversations lolololo always learning, I always repeat what they say and how they say it. thanks Hadar
Thanks for the tips. I can fully understand you with 1.5x speed. Sometimes i focus on the quantity too much. Now i should change the strategy, focus on the quality and ⏺️ record myself and compare the sound.
First of all, you deserve a big like because of your explain for us how to know the technique of shadowing and that very important for people who learn english to practice 😘😘😘

slow down the speed's voice was going to be my proposal for someone who to speak faster that me, entail that you want to understand way better all the speech not only one part of it. I really agrre with this tip. thank you for your grammar advices. P.s. what I do also is to listen to an audio and write down what I listen at the same time, I make shadowing also: listening, writing and shadowing.

I'm not a native English Speaker. the more I practice pronouncation the more sounds I can hear it. therefore I go back to learn all my vocabularies and starting over. I will do shadowing for sure and be going to enjoy it.
I have never tried shadowing before but
wanna and will be starting it from tomorrow on. Thank you Hadar I love your accent and did not think that you are a non-native english speaker
I often practice shadowing, and I agree with you that is a good way to learn English. Your video is wonderful, thank you for sharing.
That makes me very sad as he is one of the smartest people I have ever met.
i hope what Hadar has showcased here will help your friend. It would be great to hear about your friend's challenges and successes with it. )
I'm using a music speed downer app to do this and it's great, you can change the speed without losing quality and also loop phrases until you get them 100% right.
Como que eu só te conheci agora?!?!?

I were shadowing now with this video for the first time, and at the beginning it was quite difficult to me, but then it became so fun and easy! I really liked such an exercise and i will definitely continue on doing it, thanks.💕
Could u guide me a bit I am learning a different language I want to adopt a habit of shadowing technique
I want to ask u something
When u do practice of this technique do you repeatedly listen to the same dialogue or u move to the next dialogue after speaking the previous one let me know
@@akriti_bangtan7245 Hi, it's really cool, that you're learning a language! I combine:
1) repeating simultaniously as she's talking
2) pausing than repeating the whole sentence.

My coach recommended I do shadowing but I didn't know what exactly I have to focus on...thanks for the video...🤗
Yes, I really like shadowing. And it's part of my daily practices, however, some days I don't have time to study.
I am Vietnamese. And I feel your video is so good. Thank you so much.

Thank you a lot for your work!
you really are right teacher hadar repetition is the mother of learn
I do this kind of excise many times a week. I appreciate your voice and speech Hadar. I'll try to imitate one of your videos or podcast and send to you.
Thanks for the tips.
Hugs
I listen to talk about shadowing but I didn't know what is it and how to do it. Thanks Hadar for yours tips
Thanks. Sound can help students know where to stop in a sentence and which words should be put together as a group. Sound rhythm is grammar and that is why native people do not need grammar knowledge much. Without sound learning, students must have had strong grammar knowledge.
PLEASE RECORD A PODCAST ABOUT ANYTHING! I LOVE YOUR ACCENT AND PATTERN OF SPEECH!
I have a podcast! The influency podcast:)
I'm trying to learn English and I loved your explanation about shadowing. I will put into practice all of you explanations. Thank you
I really loved when you explain and you also demonstrate what you meant. Thank you for that
Your style with long hair and her yellow sweater with a black dress are beautiful. Thank you my Hadarfor your excellent English classes😇. Sincerely : Edgar
Who tried to shadow her while she was speaking?😂
A lot of people did that I think.
I wanted to write the same thought 😆
But in fact I guess it's better to shadow a native speaker and in more casual situation.
She is great! But we don't want to plus to our axcents one more even though it is beautiful and almost invisible.
And additionally, teachers speak articulated for us to understand them. In day to day conversations they don't speak like in this video.
@@Teti_K I am not still believing she is a non-naitive spiker.
😁 I hope, some day my English will sound good enough to be considered a native English speaker 😇 But even now when i just learn, some people from some countries believe English is my first language. The reason is: they can distinguish acsents which are similar to their language, but not mine despite it doesn't sound any good to me 😅
😂 you did right bro 🎉
I am very impressed to see your teaching tacking my English some weak and this time i learn English so this video is very helpful for me

Teacher this lesson is great for students just like me and you made me curious about English. Thank you.
Listening and Speaking are very important for us. 🙏❤🙏
thanks a lot for these pretty overqualified tips that are extremely different from the others, bec These are more focused on the natural learning habits and technics rather than vocabulary and grammatical issues. I really appreciate 🙏
Tips:
1. Choose someone whose voice you like/love or even want to sound like
2. You can always slow down the speed down to 75%
3. Make sure you have the script handy.
4. Record yourself shadowing the person and listen back. You'll need to practice less this way.
5. Repeat the same phrase, part of a paragraph. Quality not quantity.
A hundred congrats to your pronunciation, as a non-native speaker myself, listening to you proves that one CAN achieve native-like performance!
Hi Hadar, I'm not a native speaker also, and i still learning English now. Thank you for your sharings, it's useful.✌
I totally agree that shadowing is a very effective method to practice speaking skills, and it can train the listening skills too.
