    I have said for quite some time that GW needs to have terrain layouts-even if they are simply exemplars-for Matched Play Missions. People shouldn't have to rely on Tournament Organizers for useful examples. I find terrain to be the most contentious and time-consuming part of pick-up games with strangers, and I hate that.

    • @CanYouRollaCrit
      @CanYouRollaCrit  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I agree but the issue is GW don't want to force people into what terrain to use imo. At least the Warhammer World terrain maps are a good resource for people to use

    Facing the open sides of vantage points towards the middle of the map helps a lot in making them not so powerful, especially when there are snipers w/ camo cloaks etc on one killteam

    When we play causal games in our Narrative Kill Team we do terrain quite differently. My friend has quite a large selection of terrain bits ranging from multi story destroyed building sections, crumbled walls, forest tiles, containers, stone features, boulders, damaged vehicles, rocks, barrels, barricades, boxes and crates
    After placing the objectives for the mission type and marking out deployment zones, we both roll a D6. We then take it in turns placing terrain. The first round you can place 1 large piece or two medium, next round is 1 medium or two small and then two rounds of 1 small piece. You can place pieces anywhere apart from ontop of objectives.
    This leads to some really unique terrain setups. Because at this stage you dont know which deployment zone you are going to get its dangerous to place terrain in a way that gives a deployment zone a clear advantage. You can if you want, but your opponent might end up with the advantage you placed. We often end up with more 'realistic' looking terrain rather than terrain thats clearly designed to be fair to both deployments

    Thanks for tackling a great topic, there needs to be more videos about kill team terrain! And 100% agree with you on Keep Drop Zones Safe leading to more interesting barricade placements. The further up barricades are needed, the more forward planning there is; we have all been there when a barricade you placed ended up helping an enemy ork or clown more than helped you!
    I've found a homebrew terrain rule to be invaluable - basically, treat is as Heavy when the target is within 1" of the terrain, and Light when over 1" (Light for all secondaries and abilities, only to keep vantage points from gaining a clear shot on a concealed operative). Honestly, I'm surprised the terrain keywords haven't been worded in a way to allow this (or been added yet)

    I don’t understand why people don’t use the little bridges. If you don’t it just turns all the buildings into little vantage islands and increases the power of fly. In my opinion we need more movement on the second level. Too many people just want them to be static towers of vantage.

    • @CanYouRollaCrit

      The bridges to connect them to...the little plinths? It adds very little from the games I've used them in

    Not on Tournament / Competetive play.
    But my best and most fun games were on terrains which we setup interchanging with oponent.
    I put box of Octarius on table (build with 2x L-Shape) and we put 1 piece at time.
    We don't know yet who is defender and who attacker, so we try to setup them in way we could play either side and setup good defence for both deployments as well.
    Those boards are so chaotic, no single sane person would set them up like this, they break many rules of "simple good terrain" .. but they play so well.

    Thank you for this video. Being fairly new to Kill Team I am still confused with how the vantage points work, as in, on the left side of your board, the vantage points are clearly exposed and you can shoot the opponent, but isn't that the same on the left side? As I undertand the rules of vantage points, you can't use the terrain on them to gain cover, so in effect, both the left and right sides are equally exposed as vantage points, right?
    great video as always man.

    • @CanYouRollaCrit
      @CanYouRollaCrit  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No worries! If you're on a vantage point, you can't use the terrain *beneath you* for cover. So if they have light cover on top, you can fire safely behind it with a silent weapon and a conceal order to prevent being shot back.
      The vantage point on the left has no light cover facing the opponent so you'll be exposed there if you go up to shoot from it

  • @MrPomwarlock

    My main question which was not answered is: How many pieces of terrain do people normally place? I got the nachmund terrain and the starter set. One of my friends uses deathguard so the scramble terrain is really useful for him. But all together that is like 17 pieces of terrain? Which feels too much when we place it. So again, how many pieces of terrain is the sweet spot?

    • @CanYouRollaCrit
      @CanYouRollaCrit  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a difficult one as terrain varies in size. Generally 3 to 4 vantagr points, 4 to 5 of heavy, 5 to 6 of light walls should be enough with the heavy counting the vantage points in its number

    Great content but would benefit immensely from the video itself not showing you talking but having the actual examples of what you're talking about at any given moment -examples of what should work and what should be avoided. I know there's an example setup in the second half of the video, but the first half is kind of "visually wasted " for what is really just audio content
