New here but love gems, crystals especially the raw natural stones. How do you read the tester when it’s not on particular line. Or it’s on several? This is what an auction site I follow uses but I can’t figure out how they can tell. Thank you for any reply.

I bought a presidium (preowned) looks like new. It is correct on the CAL side but rests on the left at tourmaline and never beeps. Any advice. I’ve tried several calibration tips. No dice

Mystic topaz is a colored coating over a topaz. It may be picking up the coating.

In general, how often do you calibrate? Also, is it always blinking red when you turn it on to use. Mine does that after I have calibrated it. I am brand new to using it so am just wondering if the red light blinking means it is ready to go. I wasn't sure if it meant I needed to calibrate it again. Thank you

Some of the gem testers require the little button on the side to be pushed in when calibrating. Check your machines instructions.
Also, when the pen is going bad, you can have some wacky readings.
But in general, the light does blink while the machine is warming up, and also blinks blue or green while calibrating the machine on the ones that require the side button to be pressed in. Hope that helps.
