  • Eight people were rescued from a burning townhouse in Winnipeg's Tyndall Park area on Wednesday morning, with two of them sent to hospital in critical condition.
Emergency crews were called to the fire around 3:30 a.m. and found it "fully involved from top to bottom," district fire Chief Kevin Hay said.
The fire started in the top suite of the two-storey townhouse and spread into the bottom one. The two people sent to hospital were from the top suite, Hay said.
The townhouse is on Keewatin Street, which was closed to traffic in both directions between Tyndall and Burrows avenues for several hours.
The fire was declared under control at 4:40 a.m. and the roads reopened just before 7:30 a.m.
The front of the townhouse is lined by tall trees along the public sidewalk, which created an added challenge in fighting the fire, Hay said.
