  • Is this the best CNC you can buy? If you are looking to add a CNC machine to your workshop then the Onefinity X-35 Woodworker might be the CNC for you. In this video, I will walk through the basic feature of this product as well as a few of the features I love as well as some issues that aren't the best.

    Good video and explanation. I recently bought the X50 Woodworker and as someone who has been programming and running CNC for 30 years now, this is one hell of a solid and well built machine for the price. For woodworking in this price range, I'd have to say it's the best in the market for home use.

      I agree. The only addition I’ve made is a spindle upgrade. Video coming soon

    Good video but 1 correction. The X-50 Journeyman work area is 32x48, not 48x48.

    Thanks for the video. It helps my decision on my choice. On the “Cons”, I don’t see a biggie that would make me say no to a OneFinity. For the video mount, I have so many Ram Ball mounts piece, just going to use it. One Pro that you didn’t list was the on the controller, the ability to put your CNC files onto a USB stick, and with the display,. You can run the cut from the usb file.

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The included video mount is pretty flimsy. After I bumped my monitor off a couple times I just made a bracket and stuck it to the wall. All I ever use the screen for is to start a job and for everything else I use the web browser on my computer. I don’t think I’ve ever put a usb drive in my controller. The OneFinity provides a web server so I go direct for a tool like VCarve to the CNC
      The palm router that a lot of CNC companies use is also sub-par. If you’ve got the money then budget for a spindle. I upgraded to a liquid cooled 80mm spindle and what was a great CNC machine became incredible. With that plus a collet set my machine is ultra-precise and can hog its way though pretty much anything.

    Steve. I’m looking at getting upgraded CNC next spring. Currently using belt driven due to cost and learning CNC. How would you compare this machine to the workbee ultimate with air cooled spindle 1.5KW? Thanks in advance for anyone that knows both of these machines.

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I love the screw drive on the OneFinity. Belts can stretch and are somewhat elastic so there is a bit of bounce on direction changes. This doesn’t mean belt driven CNCs are terrible, but they can be slower. I upgraded my OneFinity to a 2.2kw liquid cooled spindle and have no regrets. I’d recommend this upgrade to anyone with any router-based CNC.

      I was using the controller that Onefinity sells, but it has failed since I made this video. I replaced it with a Logitech F710 controller. Here is an Amazon affiliate link if you want to buy want and give me a bit of referral money at the same time: amzn.to/3HPaN9o, but don't feel compelled.

    Hi
    You know a lot about lasers so do you think its a good idea to get laser for the Onefinity if you already have the machine or still better to get a stanalone laser? If not why. Space is of course a consideration.

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a tough call. The biggest reason not to do this is because when you are running your laser your can’t do anything with your CNC. I like to multitask. Moreover, compare the price of a standalone laser to the laser module for the Onefinity and you will see there isn’t a huge price difference

    • @randynoble3726
      @randynoble3726 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SteveMakesEverything thanks. Understand that point. I don't know much about lasers yet. Is the Jtech decent and should one get the bigger one or only if looking to cut out pieces and guess would be faster.

    What is the "Skippy" you mention?

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had to go back to rewatch this to get the reference to this. It's "Stiffie" not "Skippy". The Stiffie is the third rail on the X axis that as the name implies, really stiffens up this axis because this is the one that bears the weight of the spindle. I've since upgraded from the Makita trim router to a proper 80mm spindle and mount and turned what was a great machine into one that it simply awesome.

    • @RushSimonson
      @RushSimonson 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SteveMakesEverything Thank you for the kind and prompt response. Upon further study, I realize that the larger units use a much thicker tubing for added rigidity. I will be using the larger X-50 and using a 2.2KW spindle. Thanks again.

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RushSimonson Yes I believe the tubes on the x axis are large diameter on the X-50. I have the X-35 with the "Stiffy" and a 2.2Kw spindle works perfectly as well.

    the mechanical parts is great but they arent keeping up with the competition. big design flaw with the qcw frames. support always blames the user but what they dont know is this isnt m first but every issue ive had they assume we are idiots use error bs comments from support. the shapako contrller is way better than the 1f. can run mutiple tools and machine stop for tool xchange not the 1f though. it will fault out and they said to me we aint reinventng the wheel lol arrogant lazy support. they wont last long with the attitudes they have. im not the first to say this. I even showed them how to fix the qcw frames design flaw.
    have you ever tried to use your clamps in the t tracks with a full shet covering the work area. it cant be done only clamp in the back lol 9 inch design flaw totally over looked

    • @SteveMakesEverything
      @SteveMakesEverything  ปีที่แล้ว

      I won't get into a religious war over one CNC vs another, but having used a Shapeoko in the past, it was instrumental in me buying a Onefinity. The used of screw-drives rather than belts and beefy linear rods rather than rollers, sets the Onefinity apart for accuracy.
      Not sure how significant the QCW flaw is for most users. I have one and it seems to be fine, though I could just as easily have put my own rails down and attached MDF directly to my table and have it be just as functional, so I probably wouldn't recommend the QCW to anyone. I think I could change my waste boards just as fast, or faster, without it. It's only real value is that it solidifies the machine with a square frame that makes it easy to move, but since mine is bolted to my table, that's not my use case.
      I would definitely agree that the ability to support a 4th and 5th axis would be fantastic, as well as an option for a tool changer (even if I had to add these extensions myself. However, you can order a Onefinity without any controller and just supply whatever controller meets your needs.
