@@Sprinklebutterr one of my main issues with the game is that it had the same issue as sticker star, battles are pointless,
you're either just wasting cards or paint, and even if you do, by some chance, actually do run out of cards, the game always seems to toss coins at you, but they don't really seem to serve much use given how easy it is to obtain cards anyway, since the game ALSO always tosses those at you aswell, so it's very unlikely you'll run out, there's no real benefit to doing battles besides the fact you're able to increase your paint storage by winning fights, but that doesn't really matter since the game always throws paint at you, so you're almost never likely to run out, same issue with cards, and even if you do end up in a fight, the most effective way to win is to, sadly, run away, since you're never punished for it, you don't drop coins (unlike the first two games, where you do), and the enemies just magically disappear, acting as if you've defeated them (again, unlike the first two games, the enemies remain and still act as a hazard if you run), so it's pretty much a waste of time to do battles, you don't gain anything, you lose resources but not as if it matters since the game always tosses stuff at you, but even then, this ironically also makes the game too easy, considering it endlessly tosses stuff at you non-stop throughout almost the entire game
I do apologize for the long paragraph, but considering battling is suppose to be one of the main mechanics of the game, it arguably just feels very pointless alot of the times, just like sticker star, I'm just hoping the origami king fixes this issue

I don't think I'm going to pick this one up. I was so disappointed with Sticker Star, that I don't think I'm willing to go through it again; I'm not interested in another Paper Mario game where the main game mechanic is resource management.
+IC Shade on the same boat I hated sticker star and the fans of that one game are annoying I met one on a gamexplain video asking why everyone didn't like it I pointed out the flaws of it he called me a liar and told me that it was one of the best Mario games ever then after a bit of proving him wrong he blocked me.

The First 3 Paper Marios had plenty of exciting original characters, memorable locations, excellent writing, and actually pretty damn good stories for Mario games.
Color Splash gets the locations right, but it's still just the standard "Mario saves the princess" story we've seen soooooo many times before with some funny dialogue sprinkled in. So why strip most of the originality?

@@saksagan1436 Hearing some of SS and CS's music, the jazz style just doesn't feel "Paper Mario" to me as the orchestral beats from the 1st 3. Jazz I feel fits more as the core for the 3D World series. It just feels it more epic if it is orchestral IMO. Sticker Star theme was good but it doesn't feel like you're going to an epic adventure to me.

Water-related enemies weak to fire? That makes sense.
The most effective way to take out Bloopers underwater in Mario games was with the Fire Flower, so it actually does make some sense.

Super Mario RPG spawned Paper Mario.
This is a slap to the face not only for Paper Mario, but Super Mario RPG.
Look, for an action-adventure title, I'm sure it'll at least be okay. But the countless Toads and the introduction of a MUTE Bowser in Sticker Star are unforgivable. Period. I don't care if you have a new development team. Paper Mario requires unique characters and a vocal Bowser, at the very least. This is why I still enjoyed Super Paper Mario.

We know this series has been built on passionate fans, and we're proud to say that we've listened to what you have to say! We know what you love about Paper Mario! And with that, we present to you: Paper Mario: Color Splash! Let's talk about some of it's features.
Unique characters
Paper Mario has always been known for it's diverse selection of characters, like Admiral Bobbery and Count Bleck. In Paper Mario: Color Splash, you can meet some of the new characters like Shy Guy, goomba, green koopa and hundreds of generic toads!
Partner system
Partners are a unique aspect of the Paper Mario series that set it apart from all the other Mario games! So we thought, what's better than 7 or 8 uniquely designed partners? A bucket!
Battles
We know many of you didn't like having to use stickers in battles for Paper Mario: Sticker Star. Well, you will be happy to know stickers are gone! Introducing... cards! They are exactly like stickers, but you have to color them in before you can use them!
Deep story
Stopping a villain from using a magic rod to get infinite wishes. Searching for a lost thousand year old treasure before it falls into the wrong hands. Saving the worlds from a growing black hole created by a conflicted villain with a shady past. Paper Mario is known for always having complex and exciting plots. Paper Mario: Color Splash is no exception. In this game, you get to help out a town that isn't very colorful.
We know you will love this next installment of the "action adventure" genre when it comes out October 7th!
Oh did we mention the Koopalings are in it? Can't get enough of them, right?

Look, I don't want to be seen to seemingly trash two games I've _never played_ but for the purposes of the point you're making, what exactly is 'deep, complex and exciting' about either of those plots? On premise alone they sound pretty generic, and uninspired. You can say "if you played them you'd understand" but it kinda deflates your mockery, to see such simplistic cliches touted as masterful plotting, considering.

When he contrasts their premise, and those premises don't sound very good, then, to an outsider, it looks like he's complaining about nothing, and that's the entire point of the reply. Pointing out how there's obviously more to it is pointless. I already knew that, and curiously _nobody_ knows one way or the other about this game. But considering it's not released I would have to assume there's _a little more to it_.
Still, it won't necessarily surprise me if fans are right, so there'd be no reason to say "I told you so" in the event of that either. It changes nothing because it still _sounds silly_ and that was the *entirety* of the observation.

Paper Mario has literally been advertised as action-adventure since 64. TTYD was called Paper Mario RPG in Japan, like the first one wasn't.

@@pixelplayer140 well, it probably will eventually. Nintendo said every major Wii U game will get a port or sequel. The sequel works for Mario Maker 2 and Splatoon, but for a story based game it will get a sequel and port, so we are probably getting Color Splash ported along with Origami King.

This game looks like it'll be fun and have lots of personality and I'll probably get it (used) but that doesn't excuse its many flaws, its lack of relevance to the original games (THEY'RE DIFFERENT GENRES FOR PETES SAKE, WHY WOULD THEY DO THAT?), and its existence being a perfect example of how Nintendo ignores their fans. And before you start with the whole "I'm being entitled" or whatever comments, if we know Nintendo can make a higher quality game that everyone will enjoy but are instead, lazily releasing a game with flawed gameplay and a dumb gimmick then why do we have to sit back and be happy with what we have. If we don't complain, they'll never change and its not like Colour Splash is the best thing they could come up with. WE HAVE SEEN THEM MAKE BETTER PAPER MARIO GAMES AND ITS NOT FAIR THAT THEY ARE HOLDING OUT ON US BECAUSE THEY "DON'T WANT TWO MARIO RPGs." I want people to have fun with this game and enjoy it but I also want the series to return to its roots or at least improve the gameplay.
Well, don't buy the game, simple as that, this title looks beautiful and recovered some personality that Sticker Star lacked, but in the end, I'm not a big fan of the card-based battle system, the lack of partners and original characters as well; but hey, I'm not obligated to buy this, so I can spend my money in a better RPG, like Pokémon, or even South Park the fractured but whole

We can't have two Mario RPG franchises, but we CAN have 50 billion Mario SPORTS franchises!
And before you say all RPGs are the same, Super Paper Mario was still an RPG (and that at least had more balanced gameplay, even with the ever so OP Bowser).
Nintendo logic:
Treat the gamers like little kids by simplifying your franchises and milk as much money as you can off of them. Ignore older fans from the SNES/ N64 era, even though they were your most devoted fans. Overlook your long legacy and history of what made you one of the greatest game company for over three decades.
The way you described Nintendo's logic makes them sound like Activision. Except they weren't a well noticed game company(next to Nintendo) in the 1980's. Activision is essentially Nintendo's evil twin brother. Dose anyone remember Activision's RPG series Vampire the Masquerade? At least Paper Mario is here to stay!

You know what would've been cool? If Mario used the magical paint brush Bowser Jr used in super mario sunshine. Somehow that would've been incorporated in some way and open a new door to the sunshine series.

No... It's not New Super Mario Bros in 3D and with Paper Mario. It's probably an improved version of Sticker Star.

What makes me upset with this game is that the reason they changed the formula to differentiate itself from TTYD. But for some reason it's okay to use the same style as sticker star did.

So this is what happen when you combine Paper Mario, Epic Mickey and Baten Kaitos.
And take away the good aspects.
Personally, it would have been better without the RPG battle style, but something more similar tu Super Paper Mario.
I love Nintendo, and I love Paper Mario. Some people are whining that they need to go back to the old system, and if that's their opinion, that's fine, but Nintendo is a company that got to where they are today because of innovation. Coming up with new features and breaking the mold is what brought us Paper Mario in the first place. Super Paper Mario had a different battle system but it turned out to be a great game. That's why I was okay with them trying the sticker system in sticker star. They tried something new, and it didn't work out which is fine. My problem is with the fact that in stead of continuing to innovate, they are going back to this system which has already been proven to fail. Mistakes are important, even for major corporations, but only if you know how to learn from them.
I'm honestly glad I didn't really use TH-cam when this game came out because I actually like it. I probably would have never given it a chance if I'd heard everybody complaining about it.

Hold up... the BEST Paper Mario game? Are you off your rocker? SPM is not in the same league as TTYD and PM64, no offense. Its gameplay is mediocre and honestly I find its plot overrated. It's the last Paper Mario game with the "soul" of the original games, I'll give it that-but far from the best game in the series.

The narrator in this trailer and Mighty No.9's trailer should have a competition to see who's more cringier than the other.
Personal opinion, I think the Mighty No 9 trailer is worst where as this trailer is decent. The MN9 trailer pretty much a tell don't show trailer while this was a show don't tell trailer for the most part. The MN9 trailer was going for an 90s feeling in it while this was more grounded. It also didn't insult the Paper Mario fans by saying something like 'You'll start hating the Thousand Year Door after this' instead of MN9's 'Make the bad guys cry like an anime fan on prom night' joke. This looks to be a much better made trailer then MN9's trailer which was, objectively speaking, a bad trailer.
I'm wondering why anyone is even caring about this to be honest.

A Paper Mario 64 remake would actually be more plausible choice, since the graphics of it are pretty outdated.
Personally, I am more into gameplay than graphics, but I can't say the same for everyone else. There are people out there who are excited to play Color Splash because of its' beautiful visuals, but won't even think about touching the original game because its' graphics aren't very appealing to the kids of this generation.

It is lost potential. The final boss could've been some sort of original villain and be remembered. But we get giant bowser AGAIN. This game could have been in my Wii U if it fixed the problems with sticker star instead of sugar coating them. Not enough shy guys or snifits. The rescue squad could've been amazing. But everyone LOVES toad collecting right? Hyper realistic graphics aren't good when it improves nothing and could be taken out and will mostly not care about them not being there. They could have made something where the shy guys weren't attacking toads. And it was actually original enimeis and not another variant of an enimie in a lot of the games in the series. They could have even had the attack get worse as you got farther in the game instead of giving you the answer before you even fight your first battle. The game should've kept the mysterious theme instead of forgetting about it and remembering it at the final part of the game. The koopalings shouldn't be there and they could've put original bosses. Myamoto is holding them back and it shows. They are trying to be free but myamoto wont let it happen because little johns brain is too young for effort so we must simplify everything and stop trying to aim for a wider audience and succeed. Who cares about story who cares about original characters we have Mario and luigi so lets give up being an RPG because that's good marketing right? We didn't even try to change it its still RPG we just wanted to innovate. Partners? heres a bucket that is barely useful! ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lets bring things back because everyone loved running through levels to find something just to beat this boss. Your bucket dies because WHY NOT

I dont understand why people hate card battle.
because it robs the battle system of any depth or freedom. You can only fight with the cards that drop on a rng system and leaves it an rpg with no sense of growth.
They can make special attacks as outlandish and amazing as they want, it doesn't change the fact that since it's just cards, it's not YOU doing it.
It kind of makes the battles easier, especially with the over-powered thing cards.
Basically there's no reason to fight enemies since it does nothing but waste resources while giving you a minor amount of coins which are everywhere anyway.
Basically it's because it has the name Paper Mario in it... already insulting enough, Nintendo has been experimenting with this game and the classic Paper Mario and Paper Mario TTYD were good enough to have a nice story, CHARACTERS!!! Great RPG mechanics unlike sticker stars, and badges.
If this was a game on it's own with a different name I had absolutely no problem with it.. but this is not the Paper Mario most fans asked for nor need.
Because they like the original 2 games. And it being totally worthless to fight enemies makes you want to avoid them even more which I think is clever

The game looks so pleasing to the eye. But at the same time I know what I'm looking at. Just another Sticker Star, which was mediocre at best. In all honesty, it DOES look better than Sticker Star, but that's not saying much...
Do mind that there are reviewers who said this game is much better than Sticker Star. Like the guy in the GameXplain video, he compares it to Sticker Star, and says that it's something he is enjoying, unlike Sticker Star.

The first Paper Mario is known in Japan as Mario Story. It's obviously clear Nintendo deviated from that path, but I hope this installment will have enjoyable gameplay and a decent story other than " stoP BOwSR fRoM doING tHa tHing!!!"

It was Miyamoto's choice. He didn't want a paper mario game that had TTYD style. Even when the developers were making the game they added in party members and same battle system. Miyamoto told them to take it out... Wtf?
It's true based on interviews. Miyamoto totally rejected it and want something totally different for some reason. He even question if story even mattered. He wants to lean in the direction of platforms and puzzles while the rest of the game lacks every other aspects. Can't say much for the story.
The most complex puzzle would be you need this color to unlock this, nice puzzles lol
